In particular, this contribution explores the incidence and meaning of practices of ritual marginalisation and funerary deviancy in the region of Veneto between the Bronze Age and the early Iron Age period

    5-HT2a receptor in mPFC influences context-guided reconsolidation of object memory in perirhinal cortex

    Context-dependent memories may guide adaptive behavior relaying in previous experience while updating stored information through reconsolidation. Retrieval can be triggered by partial and shared cues. When the cue is presented, the most relevant memory should be updated. In a contextual version of the object recognition task, we examined the effect of medial PFC (mPFC) serotonin 2a receptor (5-HT2aR) blockade during retrieval in reconsolidation of competing objects memories. We found that mPFC 5-HT2aR controls retrieval and reconsolidation of object memories in the perirhinal cortex (PRH), but not in the dorsal hippocampus in rats. Also, reconsolidation of objects memories in PRH required a functional interaction between the ventral hippocampus and the mPFC. Our results indicate that in the presence of conflicting information at retrieval, mPFC 5-HT2aR may facilitate top-down context-guided control over PRH to control the behavioral response and object memory reconsolidation.Fil: Morici, Juan Facundo.     A methodological approach to assess the effect of organic, biodynamic, and conventional production processes on the intrinsic and perceived quality of a typical wine: The case study of chianti docg

    The aim of this study was to propose a methodological approach to evaluate the impact of the organic, biodynamic, and conventional production processes on the intrinsic and perceived quality of a typical wine. For this purpose, fourteen commercial Chianti DOCG wines from the 2016 harvest were selected based on the type of production management. A survey was set up to get winemaking information from the estate’s producer of the wines to estimate the carbon dioxide production under the three types of management. The eligibility, identity, and style properties (the intrinsic quality) of the wines were defined. A group of 45 experts evaluated the differences between wines by the Napping test and rated their typicality (perceived quality). The organic and biodynamic management showed a lower level of estimated values of carbon dioxide production. The overall statistical elaboration of the chemical and sensory data highlighted that the registered differences of the intrinsic, perceived quality, and typicality level of the respective wines, did not depend on the type of management. The comparison of the three kinds of wine by SIMCA modeling, put in evidence that the conventional ones showed a greater homogeneity regarding chemical composition, sensory characteristics, and typicality

    Current trends in polymer based sensors

    This review illustrates various types of polymer and nanocomposite polymeric based sensors used in a wide variety of devices. Moreover, it provides an overview of the trends and challenges in sensor research. As fundamental components of new devices, polymers play an important role in sensing applications. Indeed, polymers offer many advantages for sensor technologies: their manufacturing methods are pretty simple, they are relatively low-cost materials, and they can be functionalized and placed on different substrates. Polymers can participate in sensing mechanisms or act as supports for the sensing units. Another good quality of polymer-based materials is that their chemical structure can be modified to enhance their reactivity, biocompatibility, resistance to degradation, and flexibility

    5-HT2a receptor in mPFC controls context-guided reconsolidation of long- term object memory in perirhinal cortex

    The object recognition memory retrieval is a complex process that required the interaction of multiples structures. It has been proposed that mPFC interacts with the hippocampus (HIP) during contextual-guided versions of the spontaneous object recognition paradigm. Using a pharmacological disconnection experiment, we have shown that mPFC 5-HT2aR modulation and HIP interacts in an ipsilateral way during the resolution of an object-in-context recognition memory task. Since the information regarding the identity of the object could be stored in other structures such as the perirhinal cortex (PRH) then, the mPFC-HIP interaction could control the reactivation/reconsolidation in the PRH. To test this idea, we infused a 5-Ht2aR antagonist (MDL) in mPFC before the reactivation phase and immediately after a protein synthesis inhibitor (EME) in the PRH or dorsal dHIP. We also evaluate the interaction between the ventral hippocampus (vHIP) and the mPFC using a disconnection approach. We infused MDL in mPFC and muscimol in the vHIP before the retrieval and EME in the PRH after the reactivation session. We found that blocking 5-HT2aR signaling in the mPFC affects the reconsolidation in the PRH but not in the dHIP. In the disconnection experiment, only contralateral infusions made memories for both objects susceptible to the action of EME. Our results suggest that the interaction between mPFC 5-HT2a modulation and HIP activity controls the reconsolidation of object memory traces in PRH.Fil: Morici, Juan Facundo.     A dairy bacterium displays in vitro probiotic properties for the pharyngeal mucosa by antagonizing group A streptococci and modulating the immune response

    The probiotic approach represents an alternative strategy in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, not only at the intestinal level but also at other sites of the body where the microbiota plays a role in the maintenance of physiological homeostasis. In this context, we evaluated in vitro the potential abilities of probiotic and dairy bacteria in controlling Streptococcus pyogenes infections at the pharyngeal level. Initially, we analyzed bacterial adhesion to FaDu hypopharyngeal carcinoma cells and the ability to antagonize S. pyogenes on FaDu cell layers and HaCat keratinocytes. Due to its promising adhesive and antagonistic features, we studied the dairy strain Lactobacillus helveticus MIMLh5, also through in vitro immunological experiments. First, we performed quantification of several cytokines and measurement of NF-\u3baB activation in FaDu cells. MIMLh5 efficiently reduced the induction of interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-\u3b1), in a dose-dependent manner. After stimulation of cells with IL-1\u3b2, active NF-\u3baB was still markedly lowered. Nevertheless, we observed an increased secretion of IL-6, gamma interferon (IFN-\u3b3), and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) under these conditions. These effects were associated with the ability of MIMLh5 to enhance the expression of the heat shock protein coding gene hsp70. In addition, MIMLh5 increased the GM-CSF/G-CSF ratio. This is compatible with a switch of the immune response toward a TH1 pathway, as supported by our observation that MIMLh5, once in contact with bone marrow-derived dendritic cells, triggered the secretion of TNF-\u3b1 and IL-2. In conclusion, we propose MIMLh5 as a potential probiotic bacterium for the human pharynx, with promising antagonistic and immunomodulatory properties
