    Selection of classification models from repository of model for water quality dataset

    This paper proposes a new technique, Model Selection Technique (MST) for selection andranking of models from the repository of models by combining three performance measures(Acc, TPR and TNR). This technique provides weightage to each performance measure to findthe most suitable model from the repository of models. A number of classification modelshave been generated to classify water quality using the most significant features andclassifiers such as J48, JRip and BayesNet. To validate this technique proposed, the waterquality dataset of Kinta River was used in this research. The results demonstrate that theFunction classifier is the optimal model with the most outstanding accuracy of 97.02%, TPR =0.96 and TNR = 0.98. In conclusion, MST is able to find the most relevant model from therepository of models by using weights in classifying the water quality dataset.Keywords: selection of models; water quality; classification model; models repository

    Feed Formulation Based on Local Feed Resources and Its Effects on Nutritional-Related Blood Profile in Breeder Goats

    A comparative study was conducted to determine the nutrient composition of different feed formulations and its effect on nutritional related blood profile in breeder goats. Eighteen female adult goats, Capra aegagrus hircus (Boer cross) were selected and allocated into three different groups (n = 6) and assigned according to different feed formulations. Blood sampling was conducted before and after fourth weeks of feeding trial and analysed for selected parameters. Proximate analysis of diets was done and revealed comparable value of crude protein and crude fat. Glucose, total protein and calcium level in serum showed significant difference between groups (P-value 0.05) while cholesterol and fatty acid showed no significant difference (P-value 0.05). Fatty acid analysis of feed and serum showed polyunsaturated fatty acid was higher than satureated fatty acid. Overall, diet 3 shows the highest value of all blood parameters analysed in this study. Hence, it is very important to provide animal with nutrient according to production stages as sufficent protein and energy will improve the animal performance in terms breeding efficacy and quality of animal products. This study indicates that different feed formulation affects certain nutritional related blood profile in goat

    First report of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus from cage-cultured tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus)

    Swabs from the brain, eyes and kidneys of tilapia from 11 farms were collected for a period of 2 years. They were grown on blood agar before cultures of suspected Staphylococcus aureus were subjected to ABI STAPH Detection Kit and PCR for identification. They were then grown on oxacillin resistance screening agar base (ORSAB) and subjected to PCR using the MRSA 17 kb forward and reverse primers to identify the methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA). A total of 559 isolates of Staphylococcus spp. were obtained, from which 198 (35%)isolates were identified as S. aureus. Of the 198 S. aureus isolated from tilapias, 98 (50%) were identified as methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA). Since global spread of multidrug-resistant bacteria has increased in the past decade, this new finding in fish should be of concern

    Interactive mobile games development for children to learn about money

    Money notes and coins are used for transactions and are essential in daily human life. Children need to be exposed to enough knowledge about the purposes of money notes, and the most important is to identify the money correctly. Children begin to expose to identifying the money at school in standard one. However, depending on formal education is not enough because the children easily get bored, and they did not fully engage with formal education. The use of mobile games for learning purposes is becoming increasingly popular because they are interactive and able to attract students. Therefore, this research aims to develop mobile games to identify and learn about money. Three main phases have been carried out, and the first phase is preliminary research on the learning approach for children and data collection in money Malaysia Ringgit. The second phase is to design and develop mobile games. Three mini-games have been proposed, and the first game is to identify the money notes and coins. The second game is to learn about counting the money and coins, and the third game is to learn to use the money for purchasing purposes. After these three mini-games have been developed in the second phase, the third phase is the evaluation phase. The usability result shows the users agree the mobile games help them to identify money, calculate the value of money, and to perform basic purchasing activities. Based on the user acceptance results show that the mobile game works more effectively with adult or parental guidance. Overall, this research has successfully produced a mobile game that can help the children to learn to identify, count, and use money

    The effect of feed-based vaccination on tilapia farm endemic for streptococcosis

    A tilapia farm experiencing endemic streptococcosis was selected to study the effect of vaccination with a feed-based vaccine on naturally ocurring streptococcosis. A total of 9000 red tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus × Oreochromis mossambicus of 100 ± 20 g were divided into 9 cages. Fish of Group 1 in cages 1, 2 and 3 were not vaccinated. Group 2 in cages 4, 5 and 6 were vaccinated on days 0 and 14 (single booster) while Group 3 in cages 7, 8 and 9 were vaccinated on days 0, 14 and 42 (double booster). Vaccination was done by oral administration of the feed-based bacterin vaccine at 4% bodyweight. Samples of serum for antibody study and the brain, eyes and kidney for bacterial isolation were collected at 14-day intervals. The study was carried out during the critical months between April and June. Following vaccination and booster, there was significant (p < 0.05) increase in the antibody levels in all vaccinated groups from week 1 that reached the peak at week 3 before declining gradually until week 6. However, second booster on week 6 significantly (p < 0.05) increased the antibody level that remained high until the end of the 16-week study period (double booster). Streptococcus agalactiae was isolated at the start of the experiment (day 0) at an average of 10 ± 5.0% of the sampled fish. In week 4, the isolation rate was 13 ± 5.7% but increased to 18 ± 7.6% in week 8, to 25 ± 10.0% in week 10, to 28 ± 5.8% in week 12 and 25 ± 7.3% in week 14. The average isolation rate was 28 ± 7.2%, 18 ± 7.1% and 13 ± 8.2% of the fish sampled from unvaccinated, single booster and double booster groups, respectively. At the end of the study period, the survival rate was 45.2 ± 2.45% for unvaccinated, 65.3 ± 4.8% for single booster and 75.1 ± 2.1% for double booster groups. Vaccinating fish in endemic farm might not eliminate the disease but was able to significantly improve the survival rate

    Tensile and shear strength of four species of bamboo in Malaysia

    As one of the fastest growing plants on earth, bamboo has a lot of species that range in size from a few centimeters to many meters tall. Bamboo is a unique plant where it can reach their full height up to 30m in a period of 2 to 4 months. Even though bamboo has been used traditionally as a construction material for thousands of years, there are not many studies about the mechanical properties of the bamboo itself. Thus, this paper presents an investigation on tensile and shear strength of four species treated bamboos that are available in Malaysia, which include Bambusa Vulgaris, Dendrocalamus Asper, Gigantochloa Scortechinii and Shizostachyum Grande. All the test was conducted according to the International Standard Organization (ISO-22157-2004). From the test result, Bambusa Vulgaris and Dendrocalamus Asper possess high tensile strength, meanwhile, Gigantochloa Scortechinii shows the highest value of shear strength compared with other species. Moreover, the test result also shows that Shizostachyum Grande possesses the lowest tensile and shear strength. Thus, with the available data on bamboo properties, structural engineers should take the advantages of bamboo to be used as a construction material in modern design buildings

    This paper evaluates the effect of reinforcement materials on the flexural strength and strain energy in metal laminates under bending tests. Traditionally, high hardness monolithic steel has been utilised in lightweight armoured vehicles. In order to increase the performance of the armoured plates, their weight is reduced by incorporating adhesive bonding metal laminates technology. Simultaneously, the application of metallic fibres in construction is also being developed for the same purpose. Therefore the incorporation of metallic fibres in adhesive layer can reduce the weight and increase the strength of armoured panels. It is important to assess and predict the flexural strength and strain energy in the metal laminated armour. The effects of steel fibres and stainless steel mesh were investigated through flexural tests. The flexural strength was assessed by a three-point bending test using a universal testing machine. The strain energy was measured from the stress-strain curve using the data from the bending test. From the results, the steel fibre-reinforced and wire mesh-reinforced composite laminates exhibited higher flexural strength compared to non-reinforced composite laminate by 10% and 9%, respectively. Further, steel fibre-reinforced and wire mesh-reinforced composite laminates had higher strain energy at 23% and 31% compared to non-reinforced composite laminate, respectively. Cracks occurred at the back layer of the aluminium alloy and propagated vertically through the aluminium and adhesive layer and stopped at the steel layer. This is due to the higher strength and ductility of the steel in withstanding the load. Reinforcement with steel fibres and wire mesh enabled the metal laminate to bear higher load, while decreasing the damage and delamination due to its higher strength, strain energy and ductility compared to the non-reinforced composite laminate. The reinforcement materials have the potential to produce tough adhesive-bonded metal laminates for ballistic impact applications

    By 2025 the Republic of Colombia aims to be an advisory member of the Antarctic Treaty System (ATS) and the installation of a scientific station is necessary to upscale the scientific capabilities. The aim of this paper is showing the results of the implementation of a Fuzzy TOPSIS algorithm for site selection of the Colombian Antarctic Scientific Station. A three-phase methodology was AQ1 proposed, and the obtained results allowed to identify the optimum location for the station, considering key success factors and regulatory constraints

    Sex ratio,gonad development and fecundity of Miyakella nepa(Crustacea, Stomatopoda) of Pantai Remis coastal waters of Malaysia

    The sex ratio, gonad development and fecundity of Miyakella nepa (Latreille, 1828), in the coastal waters of Pantai Remis, Perak, were investigated from February 2012 to January 2013. Sex identification was done by identifying stomatopod's genitalia organs, and the ovaries were dissected out and preserved for further analysis. Female stomatopods with mature or near spawning stages were used for fecundity estimation. A total of 951 specimens of M. nepa, with 565 females and 386 males were examined. Results showed a sex ratio of 1:1.46 (male:females). Maximum GSI was estimated to be 5.80, while lowest was 2.95. Sexual maturity for female M. nepa was observed at 100 mm total length. The mean fecundity of M. nepa was 425,657 (± 1,8701) eggs which was observed to increase with increased body length
