The zero degree detector at BESIII
Abstract A small-size calorimeter has been built in the Frascati National Laboratory of INFN for BESIII detector based on the BEPCII storage ring of the Institute of High Energy Physics in Beijing. It has been installed in one of the two small-theta angle regions of BEPCII to measure the energy of photons from Initial State Radiation events and is currently taking data together with BESIII. The detector is a sandwich of Pb and scintillating fibers, the same technique employed for the KLOE calorimeter at the DA Φ NE accelerator, but the readout is actuated by way of bundles of clear plastic fibers. We describe here the fabrication, present results from tests with cosmic rays and at the Frascati Beam Test Facility, the installation in BESIII, and preliminary luminosity measurements
Evidence of a resonant structure in the cross section between 4.05 and 4.60 GeV
The cross section of the process for
center-of-mass energies from 4.05 to 4.60~GeV is measured precisely using data
samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage
ring.
Two enhancements are clearly visible in the cross section around 4.23 and
4.40~GeV.
Using several models to describe the dressed cross section yields stable
parameters for the first enhancement, which has a mass of 4228.6 \pm 4.1 \pm
6.3 \un{MeV}/c^2 and a width of 77.0 \pm 6.8 \pm 6.3 \un{MeV}, where the
first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic.
Our resonant mass is consistent with previous observations of the
state and the theoretical prediction of a molecule.
This result is the first observation of associated with an
open-charm final state.
Fits with three resonance functions with additional , ,
, , or a new resonance, do not show significant
contributions from either of these resonances. The second enhancement is not
from a single known resonance. It could contain contributions from
and other resonances, and a detailed amplitude analysis is required to better
understand this enhancement
Observation of decays into vector meson pairs , , and
Decays of to vector meson pairs , and
are observed for the first time using
\psip events accumulated at the BESIII detector at the BEPCII
collider. The branching fractions are measured to be , , and , for , , and ,
respectively. The observation of decays into a pair of vector
mesons , and indicates that the hadron
helicity selection rule is significantly violated in decays. In
addition, the measurement of gives the rate of doubly
OZI-suppressed decay. Branching fractions for and
decays into other vector meson pairs are also measured with improved precision.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Observation of the -Annihilation Decay and Evidence for
We report on the observation of the -annihilation decay and the evidence for with a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.19
fb collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy
GeV. We obtain the branching fractions
and , respectively
Observation of an anomalous line shape of the mass spectrum near the mass threshold in
Using events collected by the BESIII experiment
in 2012, we study the
process and observe a significant abrupt change in the slope of the
invariant mass distribution at the
proton-antiproton () mass threshold. We use two models to
characterize the line shape around
: one which explicitly incorporates the opening of a
decay threshold in the mass spectrum (Flatt\'{e} formula), and another which is
the coherent sum of two resonant amplitudes. Both fits show almost equally good
agreement with data, and suggest the existence of either a broad state around
with strong couplings to final states or a
narrow state just below the mass threshold. Although we cannot
distinguish between the fits, either one supports the existence of a
molecule-like state or bound state with greater than significance
First Observation of the Decays chi_{cJ} -> pi^0 pi^0 pi^0 pi^0
We present a study of the P-wave spin -triplet charmonium chi_{cJ} decays
(J=0,1,2) into pi^0 pi^0 pi^0 pi^0. The analysis is based on 106 million
\psiprime decays recorded with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII electron
positron collider. The decay into the pi^0 pi^0 pi^0 pi^0 hadronic final state
is observed for the first time. We measure the branching fractions B(chi_{c0}
-> pi^0 pi^0 pi^0 pi^0)=(3.34 +- 0.06 +- 0.44)*10^{-3}, B(chi_{c1} -> pi^0 pi^0
pi^0 pi^0)=(0.57 +- 0.03 +- 0.08)*10^{-3}, and B(chi_{c2} -> pi^0 pi^0 pi^0
pi^0)=(1.21 +- 0.05 +- 0.16)*10^{-3}, where the uncertainties are statistical
and systematical, respectively.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figure
Improved measurement of the absolute branching fraction of
By analyzing 2.93 fb of data collected at GeV with the
BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fraction , which is consistent with previous measurements within
uncertainties but with significantly improved precision. Combining the Particle
Data Group values of , , and the lifetimes of the and
mesons with the value of measured in this work, we determine the following ratios of
partial widths: and .Comment: 9 pages; 8 figure
Observation of radiative decay and evidence for
A search for radiative decays of the -wave spin singlet charmonium
resonance is performed based on events
collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. Events
of the reaction channels and are
observed with a statistical significance of and ,
respectively, for the first time. The branching fractions of and are measured to be
and , respectively, where the first errors are
statistical and the second are systematic uncertainties.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figure
Study of radiative decays into a vector meson
The decays () are studied with
a sample of radiative \psip\to\gamma\chi_{cJ} events in a sample of
(1.06\pm0.04)\times 10^{8} \psip events collected with the BESIII detector.
The branching fractions are determined to be: , , and . The decay is observed for the first time. Upper limits at the 90% confidence
level on the branching fractions for and \chict decays into these
final states are determined. In addition, the fractions of the transverse
polarization component of the vector meson in decays
are measured to be for , for , and for , respectively. The first errors are statistical and the second
ones are systematic.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure
