    Stitching for multi-view videos with large parallax based on adaptive pixel warping

    Conventional stitching techniques for images and videos are based on smooth warping models, and therefore, they often fail to work on multi-view images and videos with large parallax captured by cameras with wide baselines. In this paper, we propose a novel video stitching algorithm for such challenging multi-view videos. We estimate the parameters of ground plane homography, fundamental matrix, and vertical vanishing points reliably, using both of the appearance and activity based feature matches validated by geometric constraints. We alleviate the parallax artifacts in stitching by adaptively warping the off-plane pixels into geometrically accurate matching positions through their ground plane pixels based on the epipolar geometry. We also exploit the inter-view and inter-frame correspondence matching information together to estimate the ground plane pixels reliably, which are then refined by energy minimization. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm provides geometrically accurate stitching results of multi-view videos with large parallax and outperforms the state-of-the-art stitching methods qualitatively and quantitatively

    Subsidiary roles and dual knowledge flows between MNE subsidiaries and headquarters : The moderating effects of organizational governance types

    In this paper, we investigate how various types of subsidiary roles affect dual knowledge flows between a focal subsidiary and the multinational enterprise’s headquarters, a thus far overlooked topic in the knowledge management literature. We propose that subsidiaries with a world mandate have a stronger positive impact on dual knowledge flows than subsidiaries with a specialized contributor role. In contrast, we argue that subsidiaries with a local implementer role have a negative impact on dual knowledge flows. Further, we investigate the moderating effect of two different organizational governance types, namely, belonging to a South Korean business group (i.e., Chaebol), and being a small and medium-sized enterprise. Overall, our results from a sample of 1213 foreign manufacturing subsidiaries from 191 South Korean MNEs provide empirical evidence that validates our hypotheses.Peer reviewe

    Business Strategy, State-Owned Equity and Cost Stickiness: Evidence from Chinese Firms

    This paper investigates the relationship between business strategy and cost stickiness under different ownership. Using the data from listed firms in China from 2002 to 2015, we find that first, firms with different strategies exhibit different cost behavior. The cost stickiness of choosing a differentiation strategy is higher than that of choosing a low-cost strategy. Second, management expectations will affect cost stickiness. Optimistic expectations will increase cost stickiness, while pessimistic expectations will reduce cost stickiness. Third, management expectations can adjust the relationship between business strategy and cost stickiness in terms of government-created advantages (GCAs). If management expectations tend to be optimistic, the cost stickiness is higher with a differentiation strategy than with a low-cost strategy. If management expectations tend to be pessimistic, then cost stickiness is higher with a low-cost strategy than with a differentiation strategy. Finally, the state-owned equity affects the extent of the effect of a differentiation strategy on cost stickiness. State-owned firms, which receive more GCAs than non-state-owned firms, have stronger cost stickiness than non-state-owned firms, even if both categories of firms use more differentiation strategy

    Inducing Neurite Outgrowth by Mechanical Cell Stretch

    Establishing extracellular milieus to stimulate neuronal regeneration is a critical need in neuronal tissue engineering. Many studies have used a soluble factor (such as nerve growth factor or retinoic acid [RA]), micropatterned substrate, and electrical stimulation to induce enhanced neurogenesis in neuronal precursor cells. However, little attention has been paid to mechanical stimulation because neuronal cells are not generally recognized as being mechanically functional, a characteristic of mechanoresponsive cells such as osteoblasts, chondrocytes, and muscle cells. In this study, we performed proof-of-concept experiments to demonstrate the potential anabolic effects of mechanical stretch to enhance cellular neurogenesis. We cultured human neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) cells on collagen- coated membrane and applied 10% equibiaxial dynamic stretch (0.25 Hz, 120 min/d for 7 days) using a Flexcell device. Interestingly, cell stretch alone, even without a soluble neurogenic stimulatory factor (RA), produced significantly more and longer neurites than the non–RA-treated, static control. Specific neuronal differentiation and cytoskeletal markers (e.g., microtubule-associated protein 2 and neurofilament light chain) displayed compatible variations with respect to stretch stimulation

    Treatment of Spontaneous Cervical Spinal Subdural Hematoma with Methylprednisolone Pulse Therapy

    We report herein a case of hyperacute onset of spontaneous cervical spinal subdural hematoma treated with methylprednisolone pulse therapy that showed good results. A 57-year-old man was admitted for posterior neck pain and paraparesis which occurred an hour ago. MRI revealed a ventral subdural hematoma distributed from the level of C1 down to T3, compressing the spinal cord. Conservative management with methylprednisolone pulse therapy was administered considering the patient's poor general condition. Although emergent surgical decompression is necessary in most cases of spinal subdural hematoma, conservative management with steroid therapy could be effective

    Synchrotron study of the garnet-type oxide Li6CaSm2Ta2O12

    Hexalithium calcium disamarium(III) ditantalum(V) dodeca­oxide, Li6CaSm2Ta2O12, crystallizes in a cubic garnet-type structure. In the crystal structure, disordered Li atoms occupy two crystallographic sites. One Li has a tetra­hedral coordination environment in the oxide lattice, whereas the other Li atom occupies a significantly distorted octa­hedral site, with site occupancies for the two Li atoms of 0.26 (7) and 0.44 (2), respectively. Ca and Sm atoms are statistically distributed over the same crystallographic position with a occupancy of 2/3 for Sm and of 1/3 for Ca, and are eightfold coordinated by O atoms. The TaO6 octa­hedron is joined to six others via corner-sharing LiO4 tetra­hedra. One Li and the O atoms lie on general positions, while the other atoms are situated on special positions. The Sm/Ca position has 222, Ta has , and the tetra­hedrally coordinated Li atom has site symmetry
