Photometric Metallicity Calibration with SDSS and SCUSS and its Application to distant stars in the South Galactic Cap
Based on SDSS g, r and SCUSS (South Galactic Cap of u-band Sky Survey)
photometry, we develop a photometric calibration for estimating the stellar
metallicity from and colors by using the SDSS spectra of 32,542 F-
and G-type main sequence stars, which cover almost deg in the
south Galactic cap. The rms scatter of the photometric metallicity residuals
relative to spectrum-based metallicity is dex when , and
dex when . Due to the deeper and more accurate magnitude of SCUSS
band, the estimate can be used up to the faint magnitude of . This
application range of photometric metallicity calibration is wide enough so that
it can be used to study metallicity distribution of distant stars. In this
study, we select the Sagittarius (Sgr) stream and its neighboring field halo
stars in south Galactic cap to study their metallicity distribution. We find
that the Sgr stream at the cylindrical Galactocentric coordinate of
kpc, kpc exhibits a relative rich metallicity
distribution, and the neighboring field halo stars in our studied fields can be
modeled by two-Gaussian model, with peaks respectively at [Fe/H] and
[Fe/H].Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, Accepted for publication in MNRA
Prominent Size Effects without a Depolarization Field Observed in Ultrathin Ferroelectric Oxide Membranes
The increasing miniaturization of electronics requires a better understanding of material properties at the nanoscale. Many studies have shown that there is a ferroelectric size limit in oxides, below which the ferroelectricity will be strongly suppressed due to the depolarization field, and whether such a limit still exists in the absence of the depolarization field remains unclear. Here, by applying uniaxial strain, we obtain pure in-plane polarized ferroelectricity in ultrathin SrTiO3 membranes, providing a clean system with high tunability to explore ferroelectric size effects especially the thickness-dependent ferroelectric instability with no depolarization field. Surprisingly, the domain size, ferroelectric transition temperature, and critical strain for room-temperature ferroelectricity all exhibit significant thickness dependence. These results indicate that the stability of ferroelectricity is suppressed (enhanced) by increasing the surface or bulk ratio (strain), which can be explained by considering the thickness-dependent dipole-dipole interactions within the transverse Ising model. Our study provides new insights into ferroelectric size effects and sheds light on the applications of ferroelectric thin films in nanoelectronics

By checking the galaxy number distributions within a 5-7 h -1Mpc projected separation and a redshift difference Îz †0.1 around those richest groups at redshift z > 2, we identify lists of 761, 343, and 43 protocluster candidates in the redshift bins 2 †z < 3, 3 †z < 4, and z â„ 4, respectively. In general, these catalogs of galaxy groups and protocluster candidates will provide useful environmental information in probing galaxy evolution along cosmic tim
Enhanced polarization and abnormal flexural deformation in bent freestanding perovskite oxides
Recent realizations of ultrathin freestanding perovskite oxides offer a unique platform to probe novel properties in two-dimensional oxides. Here, we observe a giant flexoelectric response in freestanding BiFeO3 and SrTiO3 in their bent state arising from strain gradients up to 3.5âĂâ107âmâ1, suggesting a promising approach for realizing ultra-large polarizations. Additionally, a substantial change in membrane thickness is discovered in bent freestanding BiFeO3, which implies an unusual bending-expansion/shrinkage effect in the ferroelectric membrane that has never been seen before in crystalline materials. Our theoretical model reveals that this unprecedented flexural deformation within the membrane is attributable to a flexoelectricityâpiezoelectricity interplay. The finding unveils intriguing nanoscale electromechanical properties and provides guidance for their practical applications in flexible nanoelectromechanical systems
Multidifferential study of identified charged hadron distributions in -tagged jets in proton-proton collisions at 13 TeV
Jet fragmentation functions are measured for the first time in proton-proton
collisions for charged pions, kaons, and protons within jets recoiling against
a boson. The charged-hadron distributions are studied longitudinally and
transversely to the jet direction for jets with transverse momentum 20 GeV and in the pseudorapidity range . The
data sample was collected with the LHCb experiment at a center-of-mass energy
of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.64 fb. Triple
differential distributions as a function of the hadron longitudinal momentum
fraction, hadron transverse momentum, and jet transverse momentum are also
measured for the first time. This helps constrain transverse-momentum-dependent
fragmentation functions. Differences in the shapes and magnitudes of the
measured distributions for the different hadron species provide insights into
the hadronization process for jets predominantly initiated by light quarks.Comment: All figures and tables, along with machine-readable versions and any

Study of the decay
The decay is studied
in proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of TeV
using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5

state observed at the BaBar and Belle experiments is
resolved into two narrower states, and ,
whose masses and widths are measured to be where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second
systematic. The results are consistent with a previous LHCb measurement using a
prompt sample. Evidence of a new
state is found with a local significance of , whose mass and width
are measured to be and , respectively. In addition, evidence of a new decay mode
is found with a significance of

decay is measured to be , where the first
uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third originates from
the branching fractions of charm hadron decays.Comment: All figures and tables, along with any supplementary material and

Constant elasticity of variance model for proportional reinsurance and investment strategies
In our model, the insurer is allowed to buy reinsurance and invest in a risk-free asset and a risky asset. The claim process is assumed to follow a Brownian motion with drift, while the price process of the risky asset is described by the constant elasticity of variance (CEV) model. The Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation associated with the optimal reinsurance and investment strategies is established, and solutions are found for insurers with CRRA or CARRA utility.Constant elasticity of variance Reinsurance Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman equation Optimal strategies
