Investigation of Au-Ag-Cu Alloy Electrodeposition to Electromechanical Systems

© 2020 ECS - The Electrochemical Society.Electromechanical systems, which provide electrical power and data connection between moving terminals require high conduction and erosion resistant surfaces. Transfers of electrical power and data are accomplished by the contact of drum and brush wires. The simultaneous electrochemical deposition of desired Au-Ag-Cu alloy compositions, which can be used to coat the brush wires, was investigated in this study. In the scope of the study, the static potential and cyclic voltammetry behaviours of gold, silver and copper cyanide plating baths, as well as the mixtures of binary and ternary baths were investigated to obtain suitable amount of KCN and working potential values. SEM and EDS analyses were conducted in the characterization of coated samples

Objective: To analyze the correlation between early-term blood glucose level and prognosis in patients with isolated head trauma. Methods: This study included a total of 100 patients younger than 18 years of age who had isolated head trauma. The admission blood glucose levels of these patients were measured. Age at the time of the incident, sex, mode of occurrence of the trauma, computed tomography findings, and GCSs were recorded. Kruskall Wallis test was used compare of groups. A p value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The median age of the study population was 7 years and the median GCS was 11. There was a significant negative correlation between blood glucose level and GCS (p < 0.05). A significant correlation in the negative direction was observed between GCS and blood glucose level (r = -0.658, p < 0.05). Seventy-seven percent of the patients were admitted to hospital, while 6% died in ED. Conclusion: The results of the present study suggest that hyperglycemia at an early stage and a low GCS may be reliable predictors of the severity of head trauma and prognosis. A higher blood glucose level may be an ominous sign that predicts a poor prognosis and an increased risk of death

Intraoperative palpation of sentinel lymph nodes can accurately predict axilla in early breast cancer

Recent randomized trials have shown that completion axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) is not required in all patients with a positive sentinel lymph node (SLN) who will receive radiation therapy. Although routine intraoperative pathologic assessment (IPA) becomes unnecessary and less indicated by breast surgeons in the United States and some European countries, it is still widely used all around the world. In this prospective study, the feasibility of intraoperative nodal palpation (INP) as opposed to IPA of the SLN has been analyzed. Between March 2014 and June 2015, 305 patients with clinical T1-2/N0 breast cancer from two different breast clinics (cohort A; [n = 225] and cohort B; [n = 80]) who underwent any breast surgery with sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) were included in this study. Surgeons evaluated the SLNs by manual palpation before sending for IPA, and findings compared with the final pathology. The positive predictive values (PPV) of INP and IPA were 81.8% and 97.9%, respectively, whereas the negative predictive values (NPV) of INP and IPA were 83% and 92.4%. The accuracies of INP and IPA were 82.6% and 94.1%, respectively. If patients with SLNB including micrometastasis were also considered in the final pathologic assessment (FPA) (-) group that would not require a further axillary dissection, the revised NPV of INP and FPA were found to be 92.6% and 98.1%, respectively. The revised accuracy of INP also found to be increase to 86.9%. Our study, which is the only prospective one about palpation of dissected SLNs in the literature, suggests that INP can help to identify patients who do not need ALND, which encourages omitting IPA in cT1-2 N0 breast cancer
