    Search for New Color-Octet Vector Particle Decaying to ttbar in ppbar Collisions at s=1.96\sqrt{s}=1.96 TeV

BWe present the result of a search for a massive color-octet vector particle, (e.g. a massive gluon) decaying to a pair of top quarks in proton-antiproton collisions with a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV. This search is based on 1.9 fb1^{-1} of data collected using the CDF detector during Run II of the Tevatron at Fermilab. We study ttˉt\bar{t} events in the lepton+jets channel with at least one bb-tagged jet. A massive gluon is characterized by its mass, decay width, and the strength of its coupling to quarks. These parameters are determined according to the observed invariant mass distribution of top quark pairs. We set limits on the massive gluon coupling strength for masses between 400 and 800 GeV/c2/c^2 and width-to-mass ratios between 0.05 and 0.50.     Application development on Android phone I

    Mobile phone has become an indispensable tool in our daily life. It is no longer just a communication medium but a computation device. Confidential personal data and important information are stored within the device. Protecting these personal and confidential data when the phone is stolen or lost has become a task of top priority. This project proposed to develop an enhanced anti-theft application with remote access to devices via web browser. The initial objective of this application is to provide user with location tracking capability for device recovery when the phone gets stolen or misplaced. Based on the comparison of the related applications in the Android market, a list of useful features are noted and to be implemented in this project application. This project also looks into mobile application solution for the hearing impaired students as they have trouble understanding lectures. Currently students are given incentives to assist in manually transcribing the lectures for the impaired student. Speech-to-text feature has been implemented in this mobile application project to ease the transcription and note taking process. Taken, an anti-theft application has been successfully developed on Android platform. This application provides comprehensive remote features such as location tracking, phone lock, audio alarm, capture image, audio recording, video recording, wiping device and backing up data. One of the main feature, Snap-the-Thief captures the image of the user after the third input of incorrect password.     Comparison of physiological indices with body fat percentage among adolescents in Singapore

    Background: Singapore has been implementing exercise interventions to reduce body fat percentages in school (Soon et al., 2008; Goh & Pang, 2012). Studies has shown that physical fitness has an inverse relationship with body fat percentage (Wedderkopp et al., 2003). Purpose: To compare physiological indices to body fat percentage among adolescents in Singapore Hypothesis: Cardiorespiratory endurance has the highest correlation to body fat percentage. Methods: 126 subjects, aged 13-17 (mean: 14.56 ± 0.77) comprising 66 males and 60 females were volunteered by the schools. Mean height = 161.17cm ± 8.34 and mean weight = 52.56kg ± 12.67. Calculated mean BMI = 20.06 ± 3.79. Their flexibility (sit and reach test) , muscular strength (hand grip test), muscular endurance (sit-up test) and cardiorespiratory endurance (Progressive Aerobic Cardiovascular Endurance Run (PACER) test) were tested and compared with body fat percentage (BIA). Results: Results indicated a negative correlation between cardiorespiratory endurance and body fat percentage (r=-.51; males r=-.41, females r= -.16) and muscular endurance and body fat percentage (r=-.35; males r=-.17, females r=-.01). Cardiorespiratory endurance has the highest correlation with body far percentage followed by muscular endurance Conclusion: Results of the study indicated that cardiovascular endurance and muscular endurance may have a positive effect on lowering body fat percentages among adolescents in schools.     Cabinet of Ludicrosity is an interactive installation comprising various ludicrous contraptions and curiosities. Based on the Kunstkammer (German term for ‘art chamber’ or cabinet of curiosities) which flourished in 16th century Europe, the installation is simultaneously a workshop, a collection and a playroom. The seemingly diverse objects and devices are united by an underlying spirit of play and ludicrousness. Innocently irreverent, the Cabinet of Ludicrosity celebrates the impractical, trivial and absurd amidst our preoccupation with utility and significance.Bachelor of Fine Art
