Inertial coalescence of droplets on a partially wetting substrate
We consider the growth rate of the height of the connecting bridge in rapid surface-tension-driven coalescence of two identical droplets attached on a partially wetting substrate. For a wide range of contact angle values, the height of the bridge grows with time following a power law with a universal exponent of 2/3, up to a threshold time, beyond which a 1/2 exponent results, that is known for coalescence of freely-suspended droplets. In a narrow range of contact angle values close to 90°, this threshold time rapidly vanishes and a 1/2 exponent results for a 90° contact angle. The argument is confirmed by three-dimensional numerical simulations based on a diffuse interface method with adaptive mesh refinement and a volume-of-fluid method
A logarithmic generalization of tensor product theory for modules for a vertex operator algebra
We describe a logarithmic tensor product theory for certain module categories
for a ``conformal vertex algebra.'' In this theory, which is a natural,
although intricate, generalization of earlier work of Huang and Lepowsky, we do
not require the module categories to be semisimple, and we accommodate modules
with generalized weight spaces. The corresponding intertwining operators

Meromorphic open-string vertex algebras
A notion of meromorphic open-string vertex algebra is introduced. A
meromorphic open-string vertex algebra is an open-string vertex algebra in the
sense of Kong and the author satisfying additional rationality (or
meromorphicity) conditions for vertex operators. The vertex operator map for a
meromorphic open-string vertex algebra satisfies rationality and associativity
but in general does not satisfy the Jacobi identity, commutativity, the
commutator formula, the skew-symmetry or even the associator formula. Given a
vector space \mathfrak{h}, we construct a meromorphic open-string vertex
algebra structure on the tensor algebra of the negative part of the
affinization of \mathfrak{h} such that the vertex algebra struture on the
symmetric algebra of the negative part of the Heisenberg algebra associated to
\mathfrak{h} is a quotient of this meromorphic open-string vertex algebra. We
also introduce the notion of left module for a meromorphic open-string vertex
algebra and construct left modules for the meromorphic open-string vertex

Operadic formulation of topological vertex algebras and Gerstenhaber or Batalin-Vilkovisky algebras
We give the operadic formulation of (weak, strong) topological vertex
algebras, which are variants of topological vertex operator algebras studied
recently by Lian and Zuckerman. As an application, we obtain a conceptual and
geometric construction of the Batalin-Vilkovisky algebraic structure (or the
Gerstenhaber algebra structure) on the cohomology of a topological vertex
algebra (or of a weak topological vertex algebra) by combining this operadic
formulation with a theorem of Getzler (or of Cohen) which formulates
Batalin-Vilkovisky algebras (or Gerstenhaber algebras) in terms of the homology
of the framed little disk operad (or of the little disk operad).Comment: 42 page
q-deformed Supersymmetric t-J Model with a Boundary
The q-deformed supersymmetric t-J model on a semi-infinite lattice is
diagonalized by using the level-one vertex operators of the quantum affine
superalgebra . We give the bosonization of the boundary
states. We give an integral expression of the correlation functions of the

Generalized twisted modules associated to general automorphisms of a vertex operator algebra
We introduce a notion of strongly C^{\times}-graded, or equivalently,
C/Z-graded generalized g-twisted V-module associated to an automorphism g, not
necessarily of finite order, of a vertex operator algebra. We also introduce a
notion of strongly C-graded generalized g-twisted V-module if V admits an
additional C-grading compatible with g. Let V=\coprod_{n\in \Z}V_{(n)} be a
vertex operator algebra such that V_{(0)}=\C\one and V_{(n)}=0 for n<0 and let
u be an element of V of weight 1 such that L(1)u=0. Then the exponential of
2\pi \sqrt{-1} Res_{x} Y(u, x) is an automorphism g_{u} of V. In this case, a
strongly C-graded generalized g_{u}-twisted V-module is constructed from a
strongly C-graded generalized V-module with a compatible action of g_{u} by
modifying the vertex operator map for the generalized V-module using the
exponential of the negative-power part of the vertex operator Y(u, x). In
particular, we give examples of such generalized twisted modules associated to
the exponentials of some screening operators on certain vertex operator
algebras related to the triplet W-algebras. An important feature is that we
have to work with generalized (twisted) V-modules which are doubly graded by
the group C/Z or C and by generalized eigenspaces (not just eigenspaces) for
L(0), and the twisted vertex operators in general involve the logarithm of the

Solid base catalysed 5-HMF oxidation to 2,5-FDCA over Au/hydrotalcites:fact or fiction?
Nanoparticulate gold has emerged as a promising catalyst for diverse mild and efficient selective aerobic oxidations. However, the mechanism of such atom-economical transformations, and synergy with functional supports, remains poorly understood. Alkali-free Mg-Al hydrotalcites are excellent solid base catalysts for the aerobic oxidation of 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) to 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid (FDCA), but only in concert with high concentrations of metallic gold nanoparticles. In the absence of soluble base, competitive adsorption between strongly-bound HMF and reactively-formed oxidation intermediates site-blocks gold. Aqueous NaOH dramatically promotes solution phase HMF activation, liberating free gold sites able to activate the alcohol function within the metastable 5-hydroxymethyl-2-furancarboxylic acid (HMFCA) reactive intermediate. Synergistic effects between moderate strength base sites within alkali-free hydrotalcites and high gold surface concentrations can afford highly selective and entirely heterogeneous catalysts for aqueous phase aldehyde and alcohol cascade oxidations pertinent to biomass transformation
Electrical properties of ferroelectric YMnO3 films deposited on n-type Si (111) substrates
YMnO3 thin films were grown on n - type Si substrate by nebulized spray
pyrolysis in Metal - Ferroelectric - Semiconductor (MFS) configuration. The C-V
characteristics of the film in MFS structure exhibit hysteretic behavior
consistent with the polarization charge switching direction, with the memory
window decreasing with increase in temperature. The density of interface states
decreases with the increase in the annealing temperature. Mapping of the
silicon energy band gap with the interface states has been carried out. The
leakage current measured in the accumulation region, is lower in
well-crystallized thin films and obeys a space- charge limited conduction
mechanism. The calculated activation energy from the dc leakage current
characteristics of Arhennius plot reveals that the activation energy correspond
