This paper presents the metaphysical theory of Baruch Spinoza’s geometrical God as laid out in his Ethica, Ordine Geometrico Demonstrata of 1677. We will split this study into four sections, i.e. God, the Soul, Knowledge, and Physics, although all the parts of the Ethics relate directly to God, since he constitutes their ultimate basis. In our opinion, Spinoza´s Ethics constitute the highest form of rationalistic monism in modernity, as we will attempt to show in the following pages.

The analysis of the risk dimension of unemployment adds on the study of issues such as its typology (frictional, structural and cyclical), active-search methods and vulnerability to unemployment. On this sense, the incidence rate of unemployment is a composed indicator which combines both the level of unemployment and the persistence of it (its duration). An analytical decomposition of the different features of unemployment incidence allows for a deeper characterization of vulnerability to the likelihood of becoming unemployed and to remain in such state. We find that in the Colombian labour market there are significant differences between the unemployment rate and the incidence rate, which implies that the outcomes of the labour market are not just explained by the effect of aggregate shocks but by the duration effects of the different labour states, which are also important on explaining the short and long run dynamics of the labour market.
Crossing the phantom divide in an interacting generalized Chaplygin gas
Unified generalized Chaplygin gas models assuming an interaction between dark
energy and dark matter fluids have been previously proposed. Following these
ideas, we consider a particular relation between dark densities, which allows
the possibility of a time varying equation of state for dark energy that
crosses the phantom divide at a recent epoch. Moreover, these densities decay
during all the evolution of the Universe, avoiding a Big Rip. We find also a
scaling solution, i.e. these densities are asymptotically proportional in the
future, which contributes to the solution of the coincidence problem.Comment: Improved version, 10 pages, 4 figures, References adde
Identification by means of molecular tools of the microbiota responsible for the formation of histamine accumulated in commercial cheeses in Spain
Histamine intoxication is an important food safety and public health concern. Ripened cheeses are the most common dairy products in which histamine can accumulate. Histamine is formed by the microbiota present in cheese by decarboxylation of histidine, due to the action of the histidine decarboxylase. This study's objective was to identify the responsible for the formation of histamine accumulated in commercial cheeses. The content of histamine of 39 different types of cheeses marketed in Spain, of varying milk origin, was assessed. About one third of the cheeses analysed contained more than 200 mg/kg histamine; two cheeses exceeded 500 mg/kg histamine, the consumption of such cheeses can be harmful or even toxic for consumers. The five cheeses with the highest histamine concentrations were selected for in-depth molecular analysis. Firstly, bacterial and yeast isolates were obtained, and then the total genetic material from the cheeses was analysed, in order to verify the putative presence of the hdc histidine decarboxylase gene. In order to identify the histamine producing microorganisms, the nucleotide sequences of the histidine decarboxylase genes from the cheeses were amplified, and subjected them to Sanger sequencing. In four of the five selected cheeses, the main histamine producer was identified as Lentilactobacillus parabuchneri, whereas in the remaining cheese it was Tetragenococcus halophilus. The hdc gene was located in an unstable plasmid, only present in that cheese sample. Since all histamine producing microorganisms identified in this study are not part of the species used in cheese starter cultures, an improvement of hygienic manufacturing practices and/or thermal treatments for microbial inactivation in milk may be considered to prevent histamine accumulation in cheeses during ripening
The confocal microscope has been a three-dimensional observation instrument with multiple applications especially in biology. However in recent years has begun to be used as a measuring instrument contact in various engineering fields. At present there are many product specifications (size, angular, surface roughness) in the micrometer and nano scales that can or could be verified using this instrument. But this verification is only valid within a quality system if the confocal microscope is traceable. This paper presents a simple solution to this problem implemented in the Laser Centre of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM). This solution provides traceablity to the size measurements made in the XY plane and the Z-axis
High resolution spectroscopy of the high velocity hot post-AGB star LS III +52 24 (IRAS 22023+5249)
The first high-resolution (R~50,000) optical spectrum of the B-type star, LS
III +52 24, identified as the optical counterpart of the hot post-AGB candidate
IRAS 22023+5249 (I22023) is presented. We report the detailed identifications
of the observed absorption and emission features in the full wavelength range
(4290-9015 A) as well as the atmospheric parameters and photospheric abundances
(under the Local Thermodinamic Equilibrium approximation) for the first time.
The nebular parameters (Te, Ne) are also derived. We estimate Teff=24,000 K,
log g=3.0, xi=7 kms-1 and the derived abundances indicate a slightly
metal-deficient evolved star with C/O<1. The observed P-Cygni profiles of
hydrogen and helium clearly indicate on-going post-AGB mass loss. The presence
of [N II] and [S II] lines and the non-detection of [O III] indicate that
photoionisation has just started. The observed spectral features, large
heliocentric radial velocity, atmospheric parameters, and chemical composition
indicate that I22023 is an evolved post-AGB star belonging to the old disk
population. The derived nebular parameters (Te=7000 K, Ne=1.2x104 cm-3) also
suggest that I22023 may be evolving into a compact, young low-excitation
Planetary Nebula. Our optical spectroscopic analysis together with the recent
Spitzer detection of double-dust chemistry (the simultaneous presence of
carbonaceous molecules and amorphous silicates) in I22023 and other B-type
post-AGB candidates may point to a binary system with a dusty disk as the
stellar origin common to the hot post-AGB stars with O-rich central stars.Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS (22 pages, 4 figures, and 8

Low X-Ray Luminosity Galaxy Clusters: Main goals, sample selection, photometric and spectroscopic observations
We present the study of nineteen low X-ray luminosity galaxy clusters (L 0.5--45 erg s), selected from the ROSAT
Position Sensitive Proportional Counters (PSPC) Pointed Observations (Vikhlinin
et al. 1998) and the revised version of Mullis et al. (2003) in the redshift
range of 0.16 to 0.7. This is the introductory paper of a series presenting the
sample selection, photometric and spectroscopic observations and data
reduction. Photometric data in different passbands were taken for eight galaxy
clusters at Las Campanas Observatory; three clusters at Cerro Tololo
Interamerican Observatory; and eight clusters at the Gemini Observatory.
Spectroscopic data were collected for only four galaxy clusters using Gemini
telescopes. With the photometry, the galaxies were defined based on the
star-galaxy separation taking into account photometric parameters. For each
galaxy cluster, the catalogues contain the PSF and aperture magnitudes of
galaxies within the 90\% completeness limit. They are used together with
structural parameters to study the galaxy morphology and to estimate
photometric redshifts. With the spectroscopy, the derived galaxy velocity
dispersion of our clusters ranged from 507 km~s for [VMF98]022 to 775
km~s for [VMF98]097 with signs of substructure. Cluster membership has
been extensively discussed taking into account spectroscopic and photometric
redshift estimates. In this sense, members are the galaxies within a projected
radius of 0.75 Mpc from the X-ray mission peak and with cluster centric
velocities smaller than the cluster velocity dispersion or 6000 km~s,
respectively. These results will be used in forthcoming papers to study, among
the main topics, the red cluster sequence, blue cloud and green populations;
the galaxy luminosity function and cluster dynamics.Comment: 13 pages, 6 tables, 9 figures. Uses emulateapj. Accepted for
