Failure Analysis of a Reactor after Explosion Accident
AbstractBurst of a reactor occurred in an explosion accident during the production of antistatic agent process. According to the results of site survey, the current regulations and standards as well as the requirements of the accident investigation group, the reason of burst was discussed by failure analysis of the shell and bolts. The shell strength was analyzed by visual inspection, thickness measurement, and strength verification as well as estimating of bursting pressure. It can be concluded that the tank strength met the requirements of design condition. The bolts of the reactor was broken in the accident, so the failure analysis of bolts was carried out in detail, including visual inspection, fracture examination, chemical composition analysis, mechanical testing and strength verification. According to the results of the measured mechanical properties, the strength of the bolts was verified. It can be concluded that the bolts could bear the proof pressure test safely. Fracture analysis shows that no obvious metallurgical defects were found, the bolts were broken due to extreme overload. According to the technical analysis of the shell and the bolts, it can be concluded that the reactor could service safely under normal operating conditions. The cause of the bursting was transient extreme overpressure
An extensible product structure model for product lifecycle management in the make-to-order environment
This paper presents a product structure model with a semantic representation technique that make the product structure extensible for developing product lifecycle management (PLM) systems that is flexible for make-to-order environment. In the make-to-order business context, each product could have a number of variants with slightly different constitutions to fulfill different customer requirements. All the variants of a family have common characteristics and each variant has its specific features. A master-variant pattern is proposed for building the product structure model to explicitly represent common characteristics and specific features of individual variants. The model is capable of enforcing the consistency of a family structure and its variant structure, supporting multiple product views, and facilitating the business processes. A semantic representation technique is developed that enables entity attributes to be defined and entities to be categorized in a neutral and semantic format. As a result, entity attributes and entity categorization can be redefined easily with its configurable capability for different requirements of the PLM systems. An XML-based language is developed for semantically representing entities and entity categories. A prototype as a proof-of-concept system is presented to illustrate the capability of the proposed extensible product structure model
Two dimensional scaling of resistance in flux flow region in thin films
The resistance of thin films has been measured when the
angle between the applied fields and -plane of the film is changed
continuously at various temperatures. Under various magnetic fields, the
resistance can be well scaled in terms of the c-axis component of the applied
fields at the same temperature in the whole angle range. Meanwhile, we show
that the measurement of resistance in this way is a complementary method to
determine the growth orientation of the anisotropic high- superconductors.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures. Have been published in Physica
The flavor-changing bottom-strange quark production in the littlest Higgs model with T parity at the ILC
In the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (LHT) the mirror quarks induce the
special flavor structures and some new flavor-changing (FC) couplings which
could greatly enhance the production rates of the FC processes. We in this
paper study some bottom and anti-strange production processes in the LHT model
at the International Linear Collider (ILC), i.e.,
and . The results show that the production
rates of these processes are sizeable for the favorable values of the
parameters. Therefore, it is quite possible to test the LHT model or make some
constrains on the relevant parameters of the LHT through the detection of these
processes at the ILC.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figure
Fully Gapped Single-Particle Excitations in the Lightly Doped Cuprates
The low-energy excitations of the lightly doped cuprates were studied by
angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. A finite gap was measured over the
entire Brillouin zone, including along the d_{x^2 - y^2} nodal line. This
effect was observed to be generic to the normal states of numerous cuprates,
including hole-doped La_{2-x}Sr_{x}CuO_{4} and Ca_{2-x}Na_{x}CuO_{2}Cl_{2} and
electron-doped Nd_{2-x}Ce_{x}CuO_{4}. In all compounds, the gap appears to
close with increasing carrier doping. We consider various scenarios to explain
our results, including the possible effects of chemical disorder, electronic
inhomogeneity, and a competing phase.Comment: To appear in Phys. Rev.
Partial Wave Analysis of
BES data on are presented. The
contribution peaks strongly near threshold. It is fitted with a
broad resonance with mass MeV, width MeV. A broad resonance peaking at 2020 MeV is also required
with width MeV. There is further evidence for a component
peaking at 2.55 GeV. The non- contribution is close to phase
space; it peaks at 2.6 GeV and is very different from .Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, 1 table, Submitted to PL
Removal of MnS inclusions in molten steel using electropulsing
A method using electropulsing to separate inclusions from molten steel is developed, based on the differences in electrical properties between the inclusions and liquid metal. The inclusions have different electrical resistivity from that of the liquid steel and hence are expelled to the surface of the metal by electropulsing. In comparison with the as-solidified untreated steel, the size of the inclusion is significantly larger at the surface of the molten steel due to the enhanced agglomeration. Moreover, the technique is efficient in eliminating particles smaller than 20 μm
High Altitude test of RPCs for the ARGO-YBJ experiment
A 50 m**2 RPC carpet was operated at the YangBaJing Cosmic Ray Laboratory
(Tibet) located 4300 m a.s.l. The performance of RPCs in detecting Extensive
Air Showers was studied. Efficiency and time resolution measurements at the
pressure and temperature conditions typical of high mountain laboratories, are
reported.Comment: 16 pages, 10 figures, submitted to Nucl. Instr. Met

Evidence of Color Coherence Effects in W+jets Events from ppbar Collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV
We report the results of a study of color coherence effects in ppbar
collisions based on data collected by the D0 detector during the 1994-1995 run
of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, at a center of mass energy sqrt(s) = 1.8
TeV. Initial-to-final state color interference effects are studied by examining
particle distribution patterns in events with a W boson and at least one jet.
The data are compared to Monte Carlo simulations with different color coherence
implementations and to an analytic modified-leading-logarithm perturbative
calculation based on the local parton-hadron duality hypothesis.Comment: 13 pages, 6 figures. Submitted to Physics Letters
