    Drivers Of Organizational Innovativeness Among SMEs in Malaysia Halal Industry

    The Malaysia Halal Industry has been one of the lucrative and profitable areas of business in Malaysia with estimated global market value (food and non food) of US$2.1 trillion annually (Industry, 2006). The increasing awareness to select halal products has created a great demand for halal products and services. Malaysia is in a unique spot to become a global halal hub due to its outstanding infrastructure, favourable business atmosphere and well established policies and institutions that support initiatives engaged by the Malaysian Government. Unfortunately, majority of the entrepreneurs (SMEs) are unable to sustain in the market as after three years, the brand name disappear due to innovation, high competition with multinational companies and financial constraints.The main purpose of this paper is to emphasize the drivers of innovativeness in improving business performance among SMEs.Many theorists agreed that the organizational development depends on low or high level of innovativeness. This paper is based on the management behavior towards innovativeness which is crucial for enhancing business performance. It also highlighted the drivers of innovativeness in SMEs Malaysia Halal Industry and a framework for future empirical investigation is proposed

    Anwendungssysteme unterstützen die Durchführung von Geschäftsprozessen. Daher ist eine enge Abstimmung von dem zu entwickelnden Anwendungssystem mit den unterstützten Geschäftsprozessen notwendig. In diesem Beitrag wird gezeigt, wie sich diese Abstimmung über die Ableitung von funktionalen und nichtfunktionalen Anforderungen an die Anwendungssysteme aus Geschäftsprozessmodellen realisieren lässt. Den gängigen Geschäftsprozessmodellierungssprachen liegt hierzu i. d. R. aufgrund ihres heterogenen Begriffs- und Modellverständnisses kein einheitliches Vorgehen zugrunde. Zur Beschreibung von Geschäftsprozessen wird daher ein allgemeingültiges Aufgabenkonzept verwendet, auf dessen Basis die Spezifikation von Anforderungen allgemein aus Geschäftsprozessmodellen erfolgen kann. Anschließend werden die Elemente von drei gängigen Geschäftsprozessmodellierungssprachen diesem Aufgabenkonzept zugeordnet, um damit konkret angegeben zu können, wie sich Anforderungen aus diesen Modellierungssprachen ableiten lassen

    Identification and Functional Characterization of Novel Phosphorylation Sites in TAK1-Binding Protein (TAB) 1

    TAB1 was defined as a regulatory subunit of the protein kinase TAK1, which functions upstream in the pathways activated by interleukin (IL)-1, tumor necrosis factor (TNF), toll-like receptors (TLRs) and stressors. However, TAB1 also functions in the p38 MAPK pathway downstream of TAK1. We identified amino acids (aa) 452/453 and 456/457 of TAB1 as novel sites phosphorylated by TAK1 as well as by p38 MAPK in intact cells as well as in vitro. Serines 452/453 and 456/457 were phosphorylated upon phosphatase blockade by calyculin A, or in response to IL-1 or translational stressors such as anisomycin and sorbitol. Deletion or phospho-mimetic mutations of aa 452–457 of TAB1 retain TAB1 and p38 MAPK in the cytoplasm. The TAB1 mutant lacking aa 452–457 decreases TAB1-dependent phosphorylation of p38 MAPK. It also enhances TAB1-dependent CCL5 secretion in response to IL-1 and increases activity of a post-transcriptional reporter gene, which contains the CCL5 3′ untranslated region. These data suggest a complex role of aa 452–457 of TAB1 in controlling p38 MAPK activity and subcellular localization and implicate these residues in TAK1- or p38 MAPK-dependent post-transcriptional control of gene expression

    Investigating Multidimensional Interoceptive Awareness in a Japanese Population: Validation of the Japanese MAIA-J

    The Multidimensional Assessment of Interoceptive Awareness (MAIA) is a self-report instrument to assess relevant dimensions of bodily awareness. The aim of this study was to offer a Japanese version and adaptation of the MAIA (MAIA-J), as well as to analyse its psychometric properties in a Japanese population. The English MAIA was systematically forward and backward translated by bi-lingual Japanese experts; additionally, content validity aspects regarding language were discussed by a panel of experts. The MAIA-J was administered to 390 Japanese young adults (age: 20.3 ± 2.2), 67.7% women and 32.2% men. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) reduced the questionnaire from 32 to 25 items and from 8 to 6 factors (Noticing, Not-Distracting, Attention Regulation, Emotional Awareness, Body Listening, and Trusting). The Japanese version showed appropriate indicators of construct validity and reliability, with Cronbach's α between 0.67 and 0.87 for the 6 MAIA-J dimensions. The findings demonstrate that MAIA-J has a slightly different factor structure compared to the original English MAIA. Results are discussed with respect to cultural differences. However, the study results support acceptable reliability of the MAIA-J in the Japanese sample, warranting its use for future studies with Japanese populations

    Exhaled Volatile Organic Compounds during Inflammation Induced by TNF-α in Ventilated Rats

    Systemic inflammation alters the composition of exhaled breath, possibly helping clinicians diagnose conditions such as sepsis. We therefore evaluated changes in exhaled breath of rats given tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). Thirty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to three groups (n = 10 each) with intravenous injections of normal saline (control), 200 µg·kg−1 bodyweight TNF-α (TNF-α-200), or 600 µg·kg−1 bodyweight TNF-α (TNF-α-600), and were observed for 24 h or until death. Animals were ventilated with highly-purified synthetic air to analyze exhaled air by multicapillary column–ion mobility spectrometry. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) were identified from a database. We recorded blood pressure and cardiac output, along with cytokine plasma concentrations. Control rats survived the 24 h observation period, whereas mean survival time decreased to 22 h for TNF-α-200 and 23 h for TNF-α-600 rats. Mean arterial pressure decreased in TNF-α groups, whereas IL-6 increased, consistent with mild to moderate inflammation. Hundreds of VOCs were detected in exhalome. P-cymol increased by a factor-of-two 4 h after injection of TNF-α-600 compared to the control and TNF-α-200. We found that 1-butanol and 1-pentanol increased in both TNF-α groups after 20 h compared to the control. As breath analysis distinguishes between two doses of TNF-α and none, we conclude that it might help clinicians identify systemic inflammatio

    Differential Response of Pentanal and Hexanal Exhalation to Supplemental Oxygen and Mechanical Ventilation in Rats

    High inspired oxygen during mechanical ventilation may influence the exhalation of the previously proposed breath biomarkers pentanal and hexanal, and additionally induce systemic inflammation. We therefore investigated the effect of various concentrations of inspired oxygen on pentanal and hexanal exhalation and serum interleukin concentrations in 30 Sprague Dawley rats mechanically ventilated with 30, 60, or 93% inspired oxygen for 12 h. Pentanal exhalation did not differ as a function of inspired oxygen but increased by an average of 0.4 (95%CI: 0.3; 0.5) ppb per hour, with concentrations doubling from 3.8 (IQR: 2.8; 5.1) ppb at baseline to 7.3 (IQR: 5.0; 10.8) ppb after 12 h. Hexanal exhalation was slightly higher at 93% of inspired oxygen with an average difference of 0.09 (95%CI: 0.002; 0.172) ppb compared to 30%. Serum IL-6 did not differ by inspired oxygen, whereas IL-10 at 60% and 93% of inspired oxygen was greater than with 30%. Both interleukins increased over 12 h of mechanical ventilation at all oxygen concentrations. Mechanical ventilation at high inspired oxygen promotes pulmonary lipid peroxidation and systemic inflammation. However, the response of pentanal and hexanal exhalation varies, with pentanal increasing by mechanical ventilation, whereas hexanal increases by high inspired oxygen concentrations

    The selection and definition of indicators in public health monitoring for the 65+ age group in Germany

    Selecting relevant indicators is an important step in the development of public health monitoring for older people. Indicators can be used to combine information comprehensively from various data sources and enable recurring, comparable findings to be made about the health of older people. Indicators were systematically compiled from existing international monitoring systems. An indicator set on health in old age was developed using a multistage, structured consensus-based process together with an interdisciplinary panel of experts. The resulting 18 indicators were assigned to three health areas: (1) environmental factors, (2) activities and participation, and (3) personal factors. Data sources that can be used for the indicators are the health surveys within the framework of the Robert Koch Institute’s (RKI) health monitoring system, as well as surveys from other research institutes and official statistics. In the future, the indicator set is to be developed further and integrated into an overall approach that is geared towards health reporting and the monitoring of chronic diseases in all phases of life
