This chapter describes a facile one-step method developed for the synthesis of Field’s alloy nanoparticles using a nanoemulsification technique and their dispersed them in a base fluid to make slurry. The composition, size, morphology, and thermal properties of as-prepared nanoparticles were characterized by XRF, TEM and, DSC, respectively. The slurry with Field’s alloy nanoparticles exhibited good thermal properties and stability. Meanwhile, an experimental study was performed to investigate the jet impingement of HFE7100 fluid with nanosized metallic (Field’s alloy) phase change materials (nano-PCM). Surface modification was used to stabilize the slurry of the nano-PCM in HFE7100 fluid and make the slurry stable for over 1 month. The Field’s alloy nano-PCM absorbed heat during a phase change process from solid to liquid phase coupled with HFE7100 evaporation process. The effects of mass fraction of Field’s alloy nano-PCM on the pressure drop and heat transfer performances of the slurry were investigated through a heat transfer loop test. Away from the critical heat flux, Field’s alloy nano-PCM slurry provided a significant heat transfer enhancement due to the increase in the thermal capacity of the carrier fluid. Moreover, the nano-PCM slurries were able to maintain 97% of their heat removal capability after 5000 thermal cycles

The Paradoxical Effects of COVID-19 Event Strength on Employee Turnover Intention

As a global pandemic, the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) has brought enormous challenges to employees and organizations. Although numerous existing studies have highlighted that the COVID-19 pandemic is a stressful event and empirically proved its detrimental effect on employee turnover intention, few scholars have noted that this pandemic can deteriorate the external economic and employment environment simultaneously, which may further complicate employees’ intentions to leave or stay in the current organization. Drawing on event system theory and social cognitive theory, this study aims to uncover two potential cognitive mechanisms of the complex impact of COVID-19 event strength on employee turnover intention. To examine the proposed model, this study employed a three-wave and time-lagged research design and collected data from a sample of 432 employees of four Chinese companies from different industries. The findings indicated that COVID-19 event strength was negatively related to perceived external employability, and ultimately curbed employee turnover intention. Yet, COVID-19 event strength also negatively predicted perceived organizational growth, thus influencing employees to exhibit intentions to quit. Moreover, organizational identification not only attenuated the positive effect of perceived external employability on turnover intention but also amplified the negative impact of perceived organizational growth on turnover intention. Further, organizational identification moderated the indirect effects of COVID-19 event strength on turnover intention through perceived external employability and perceived organizational growth. This study provided a comprehensive insight into scholars’ understanding of the COVID-19 downstream outcomes

Research on Design Method of Long-life Asphalt Pavement

    Get PDF
In recent years, the problem of early damage of asphalt pavement has been basically solved, and the service performance has been improved, but there are still some deficiencies in design life and service life. This paper investigates the long-life asphalt pavement structure, analyzes the design method of asphalt mixture, and summarizes the pavement design theory and related software. The long-life asphalt pavement with semi-rigid base, flexible base and combined base structure has been designed by four method, including typical load, Per-Road, D50-2006 and D50-2017. Four methods were compared by designing long-life pavements with semi-rigid base and flexible base. The results show that the proposed asphalt pavement structure can meet the requirements of Per-Road, typical load design and D50-2006. However, D50-2017 has higher requirements for the bending and tensile fatigue life of the base layer and requires a thicker base layer. When d50-2017 is used to design flexible base pavement, the fatigue life of asphalt layer should be the main control index, and the fatigue life of sub base course should be the main control index in other pavement de-sign. It remains to be seen whether the proposed highway structure can achieve the design goal of long-life asphalt pavement

Torsional vibration solution of tapered pile considering stress diffusion effect of pile end soil

    Get PDF
Based on the torsional plane strain model and tapered fictitious soil pile model, the torsional vibration characteristics of tapered pile considering stress diffusion effect of pile end soil is investigated theoretically. Considering the coupling conditions of pile-soil system, the torsional impedance at the tapered pile head is obtained by means of Laplace transform and impedance transfer method. A parametric study is performed, the rationality of the tapered fictitious soil model is verified and the influence of the cone angle of tapered fictitious soil pile on the torsional vibration characteristics of tapered pile embedded in layered soil is studied. The results show that: the cone angle of tapered fictitious soil pile has obvious effect on the torsional vibration characteristics of tapered pile with the shorter length

Performance evaluation on aquatic product cold-chain logistics

Purpose: The requirements for high quality and diversification aquatic products are increasing with the improvement of Chinese living standard. However, the distribution between the place of production and the place of consumption are uneven, which results in large cold-chain logistics demand for aquatic products. At present, the low-level development of cold chain logistics has a bad impact on the circulation of aquatic products in China. So it is very urgent to develop cold-chain logistics in China. Design/methodology/approach: In order to do this, we apply performance evaluation, a well-known management tool, to study Chinese aquatic product cold-chain logistics. In this paper we first propose SISP (Subjects, Indexes, Standards, and Phases of performance evaluation) model and ACSSN model (Aquatic product, Customer, Supply Chain, Society, and Node enterprises of supply chain) for aquatic products cold-chain logistics performance evaluation. Then an ANP-Fuzzy method is proposed to evaluate the operational performance of Shandong Oriental Ocean Sci-Tech Co., Ltd. Furthermore, a system dynamic model is built to simulate the impact of temperature on the profits in aquatic products cold-chain sales section. Findings: We find out within a reasonable temperature range, lower temperature brings higher profit level. Also, performance improvement methods are proposed and the simulation of performance evaluation system is developed. Practical implications: Our findings can help to improve the level of aquatic product coldchain logistics in China. Originality/value: The paper proposes the SISP (Subjects, Indexes, Standards, and Phases of performance evaluation) model and ACSSN model (Aquatic product, Customer, Supply Chain, Society, and Node enterprises of supply chain) for aquatic products cold-chain logistics performance evaluation.Peer Reviewe
