MSM building and projection for the analysis of time‐resolved spectra

    Get PDF
Understanding the kinetics between the components of time-resolved spectra is a crucial step in the study of photo-activated processes. However, modeling the kinetics requires usually some a priori knowledge about the system. In our approach, we build a Markov State Model (MSM) from the spectral data, and obtain a Koopman transition matrix K(τ). With genPCCA, an invariant subspace projection, we project the process into its metastable components. The result of the application of gen-PCCA is a transition matrix Kc(τ), from which we can read the transition probability between the metastable components of the reaction. We discuss the application of this analysis method to the transient absorption spectrum of brominated Al-corrole

Knowledge of Hormonal Contraception Among Young Women in Poland

Introduction. Hormonal contraception could activate wide range of biological effects in women body and what’s important these pharmaceuticals are often used for long time. The aim of this study was to examine the level of knowledge among young women studying on the universities of Bydgoszcz (Poland) about the health effects of hormonal contraception. Materials and Methods. 172 women aged from 18 to over 25 years (the majority of respondents were in the age 21-24 years) were assessed with original anonymous questionnaire. Results. The state of knowledge of young women concerning negative aspects of using contraception differs depending on field of study. The awareness of women using contraception was higher than women which didn’t use hormonal contraception. Conclusion. General state of knowledge of studied women concerning using hormonal contraception was not satisfactory. Especially alarming is ignorance of health threads connected with using hormonal contraception among women using this method of contraception

Seeing the body distorts tactile size perception

Vision of the body modulates somatosensation, even when entirely non-informative about stimulation. For example, seeing the body increases tactile spatial acuity, but reduces acute pain. While previous results demonstrate that vision of the body modulates somatosensory sensitivity, it is unknown whether vision also affects metric properties of touch, and if so how. This study investigated how non-informative vision of the body modulates tactile size perception. We used the mirror box illusion to induce the illusion that participants were directly seeing their stimulated left hand, though they actually saw their reflected right hand. We manipulated whether participants: (a) had the illusion of directly seeing their stimulated left hand, (b) had the illusion of seeing a non-body object at the same location, or (c) looked directly at their non-stimulated right-hand. Participants made verbal estimates of the perceived distance between two tactile stimuli presented simultaneously to the dorsum of the left hand, either 20, 30, or 40 mm apart. Vision of the body significantly reduced the perceived size of touch, compared to vision of the object or of the contralateral hand. In contrast, no apparent changes of perceived hand size were found. These results show that seeing the body distorts tactile size perception

Climate change adaptation in disaster-prone communities in Cambodia and Fiji

This article examines how rural communities living in flood-prone river basins of Cambodia and Fiji have responded to increasing variability of floods and other natural hazards under the influence of climate change and other risk factors. Particular emphasis is placed on risk perceptions and adaptive strategies of households and communities with regard to regular and catastrophic floods and how the livelihoods of vulnerable groups are affected by floods and other climate-induced disasters. Our research approach integrates the food, water and energy security nexus with the rural livelihood framework. The study aims at identifying the spatial extent and dynamics of flood events and determining the factors that enhance adaptive capacities of flood-affected communities and households. Our study finds that access to resources as well as local socio-cultural contexts are important determinants of coping and adaptation practices at the community and household level in the two countries. Findings also suggest that research participants had a profound understanding of flood flows, extent and impacts that complements knowledge gained from hydrological and remote sensing methods. We conclude that blending local and scientific knowledge is a promising approach to enhancing adaptive capacity and resilience

As camadas espectatoriais da Performance do Encontro foram aqui examinadas considerando o momento de isolamento social vivenciado frente a COVID-19.This article aimed to present procedures of the performative practice that evidence the meeting in real time in the urban daily life, coming from the Research of Encounter Performance. For that, the notions of re-enactment and chance were explored, made explicit in narratives of own experiences in the creation of performative programs, and also, from reflections about the practice of two performers: Eleonora Fabião and Tania Alice. The spectator layers of the Encounter Performance were verified and analyzed taking into consideration the moment of social isolation experienced in face of COVID-19.Este artículo tuvo como objetivo presentar procedimientos de la práctica performativa que evidencian el encuentro en tiempo real en el cotidiano urbano, proveniente de la Investigación Performance del Encuentro.
