Longitudinal Study of Lanana Creek
A longitudinal study was done to collect data on the various conditions of LananaCreek in Nacogdoches, Texas over a seven week span from September 14 to November 2, 2018. The part of the creek studies is a 3.5 mile stretch from East Austin Street to Hoya Soccer Complex, mostly located on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University. There were 6 different testing sites selected along this expanse. Collection of samples was performed by the General Chemistry I Honors class as part of the laboratory experience. Once collected, the samples were transported back to the lab for testing. The tests performed on the samples included determination of the pH, total solids, total dissolved solids, water hardness, anion concentration, and alkalinity. Each of these tests analyzes for a different parameter that is essential in evaluating the health of the ecosystem as a whole and gives a good reflection of the overall health of the creek’s surrounding environment. The results were compared to EPA standards. During the testing period, there were significant rain events generating variable results after each sampling, but the overall study shows that LananaCreek is healthy
Engagement of Health Volunteers: A Promising Approach for Meeting Community Needs
Extension has entered an era of unprecedented opportunity to affect family and community health. Taking action will challenge Extension to shift the way programs are delivered, engage a volunteer corps as partners, and value empowering others to address community challenges with their own solutions. This article describes a promising approach for expanding Extension\u27s reach by engaging health-focused volunteers through the Extension Wellness Ambassador Program, where volunteers direct their efforts toward community projects they feel inspired by and compelled to address. Additionally, the article includes recommendations for building a health-focused volunteer corps within Extension

Pore characterization through propagator-resolved transverse relaxation exchange
We use the propagator-resolved transverse relaxation exchange experiment to characterize the pore space and fluid behavior of water saturated, tight-packed quartz sand. The experiment uses T2 exchange plots to observe the number of molecules that shift their environment for a range of mixing times. The propagator dimension allows us to determine how far the molecules have moved. The peak intensities are integrated and then plotted as a function of displacement and mixing time. We also model our system using both a probabilistic pore-hopping simulation and a spreading Gaussian model. We use the results of these simulations to interpret the peak intensity plots. From this, we can estimate pore features such as characteristic time, pore radii, and interpore spacing. The tortuosity of the different pore sizes can then be calculated from these values
Activating Volunteers for Statewide COVID-19 Pandemic Response
Extension is known for facilitating local networks and having the capacity to organize and mobilize volunteers. These assets, critically important in crises and emergency situations, were drawn on to support Tennessee\u27s response to health care worker and community needs early in the coronavirus pandemic. Using local networks, we rapidly activated a statewide volunteer workforce to address potential shortages of cloth face masks before federal agencies recommended their widespread public use. We share social media communication strategies and a timeline of key events and acknowledge challenges we encountered in moving forward in an environment of inconsistent and evolving guidelines. Our actions may be applicable to addressing ongoing community needs as the pandemic persists and new circumstances arise
Extension Wellness Ambassadors: Individual Effects of Participation in a Health-Focused Master Volunteer Program
We present findings from a pilot implementation of the Extension Wellness Ambassador Program, a health-focused master volunteer program, and briefly describe the program approach and purpose. Program participants received 40 hr of training and completed assessments of self-efficacy, physical activity, and functional fitness at baseline and 3-month follow-up. Paired-samples t-tests showed significant positive changes in mean for general self-efficacy, self-efficacy for practicing health behaviors, physical activity, and nearly all functional fitness measures. Our findings demonstrate that participation in a health-focused master volunteer program can positively influence participants\u27 lifestyle behaviors as they work to improve health and quality of life in their communities
Kolmogorov Similarity Hypotheses for Scalar Fields: Sampling Intermittent Turbulent Mixing in the Ocean and Galaxy
Kolmogorov's three universal similarity hypotheses are extrapolated to
describe scalar fields like temperature mixed by turbulence. By the analogous
Kolmogorov third hypothesis for scalars, temperature dissipation rates chi
averaged over lengths r > L_K should be lognormally distributed with
intermittency factors I that increase with increasing turbulence energy length
scales L_O as I_chi-r = m_T ln(L_O/r). Tests of Kolmogorovian velocity and
scalar universal similarity hypotheses for very large ranges of turbulence
length and time scales are provided by data from the ocean and the Galactic
interstellar medium. The universal constant for turbulent mixing intermittency
m_T is estimated from oceanic data to be 0.44+-0.01, which is remarkably close
to estimates for Kolmogorov's turbulence intermittency constant m_u of
0.45+-0.05 from Galactic as well as atmospheric data. Extreme intermittency
complicates the oceanic sampling problem, and may lead to quantitative and
qualitative undersampling errors in estimates of mean oceanic dissipation rates
and fluxes. Intermittency of turbulence and mixing in the interstellar medium

Syntax for free: representing syntax with binding using parametricity
We show that, in a parametric model of polymorphism, the type ∀ α. ((α → α) → α) → (α → α → α) → α is isomorphic to closed de Bruijn terms. That is, the type of closed higher-order abstract syntax terms is isomorphic to a concrete representation. To demonstrate the proof we have constructed a model of parametric polymorphism inside the Coq proof assistant. The proof of the theorem requires parametricity over Kripke relations.
