Faculty Development Initiatives at the College of Medicine & Health Sciences, Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman

Faculty development is necessary to improve and update teaching and learning methodologies. As such, a variety of learning activities have been designed to improve teaching competencies of individual teachers. The College of Medicine & Health Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman, recognised the need for teacher training in order to bring faculty up-to-date in teaching and assessment methodologies. A programme of regular and one-time interventions consisting of short courses, workshops and a series of lectures was offered. Feedback from the participants and facilitators led to programme expansion and enhancement. Modeling Relationships Among Affective Measures of Food Choice: Acceptance, Emotions And Satisfaction

The importance of ascertaining holistic product and consumer understanding beyond liking in the product development process cannot be overstated. This research investigated the role of attribute performance on satisfaction in explaining the relationship between food-evoked emotions and sensory preferences, and examined factors influencing the sensory-emotion profile of food products. In the first phase of this research, a series of consumer studies were conducted using eggs as a test product. First, the extent to which critical product attributes contribute to the satisfaction of quality requirements and purchase intent was determined using Kano modeling concepts. The emotional profile of the product was then examined in attribute presence and absence conditions to evaluate impact of egg quality types. Subsequently, the data were analyzed to elucidate relationships between emotions, satisfaction performance measures and product acceptability. For the expansive aspects of intrinsic, extrinsic, aesthetic, expedient and wholesome characteristics influencing purchase decision of eggs, 8 elements were identified as must-be, 1 attractive, 1 one-dimensional, and 10 indifferent Kano attributes. Attribute absence rather than presence evoked greater consumer discriminating emotions, and emotions and acceptability were more correlated for attribute absence than presence. Emotion and attribute satisfaction performance scores were better predictors of liking in combination than alone. However, emotions in attribute absence outperformed that in its presence, reflecting impact of deeper emotional conceptualizations in attribute absence being a better predictor of liking. Associations were found between Kano attributes and positive emotions. Attractive Kano-related attributes were distinctly drivers of liking, separate from both positive and negative emotions. No evidence of moderating effects of satisfaction performance of expedient egg attributes on the relationship between emotions and liking was found. In the second phase of this research, the relative effects of color and labeling cues on sensory perception, emotional responses and the sensory-emotion space were evaluated using sweeteners as a food model. Results demonstrated additive effects of color and labeling cues on flavor perception and emotions, contrary to significant interactions on their sensory-emotion profile. Identified associations between attribute performance on consumer satisfaction, emotions and acceptability in this research offer new insights on food-evoked emotions in product development

THE OPTIMIZATION OF ISLAMIC PHILANTHROFY TO DEVELOP OF SMEs AT DOMPET DHUAFA REPUBLIKA FOUNDATION

Islamic philanthropy is one of the pillars in economic development. Islamic philanthropy consists of zakat, infaq, shadaqah and waqf. The asset turnover from the muzakki to mustahik aims to reduce poverty. Islamic philanthropy which is managed professionally through productive programs in the development of small and medium micro enterprises is expected to be able to transform mustahik to be muzakki. Republika Dompet Dhuafa Foundation as one of the national amil zakat institutions that has an economic development program is expected to be able to develop small and medium micro businesses in Indonesia. The method used in the research is descriptive qualitative method, which describes the source of fundraising and distribution of ZISWAQ at the Dompet Dhuafa Republika Foundation

PENGELOLAAN WAKAF BERBASIS PROFESIONALISME NAZHIR DI DESA BULO-BULO KABUPATEN JENEPONTO

This study explores how the management and development of waqf in Bulo-Bulo Village, Jeneponto Regency. The research method used is qualitative by using interview instruments and documentation on the object of research, namely nazhir waqf in Bulo-Bulo Village. The results of this study conclude that the management and development of waqf in Bulo-Bulo is still simple with traditional management. Therefore, the role of the government in this case the Ministry of Religion must be even more active in socializing and fostering nazhir so that existing waqf can continue to develop and provide broad benefits to the social welfare of Muslims who are the majority population. GAYA KOMUNIKASI PEMIMPIN DAN DISIPLIN KERJA PEGAWAI: (Studi Korelasional tentang Pengaruh Gaya Komunikasi Pemimpin terhadap Disiplin Kerja Pegawai Dinas Perhubungan Kota Medan Unit Pelayanan Teknis (UPT) Terminal Terpadu Pinang Baris)

Penelitian ini berjudul Pengaruh Gaya Komunikasi Pemimpin terhadap Disiplin Kerja Pegawai Dinas Perhubungan Kota Medan Unit Pelayanan Teknis (UPT) Terminal Terpadu Pinang Baris. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh Gaya Komunikasi Pimpinan terhadap Disiplin Kerja Pegawai di Dinas Perhubungan Kota Medan Unit Pelaksana Teknis (UPT) Terminal Terpadu Pinang Baris. Teori yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori komunikasi, komunikasi organisasi, pemimpin, kepemimpinan, dan teori disiplin. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah seluruh pegawai tetap UPT Terminal Terpadu Pinang Baris yang berjumlah 88 orang, dengan menggunakan rumus total sampling diperoleh jumlah sample sebanyak 83 orang. Penelitian ini dilakukan dari bulan Mei-Juni 2017. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu Penelitian Lapangan  dan Studi Kepustakaan  dengan menyebarkan kuesioner. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah analisis tabel tunggal, tabel silang dan uji hipotesis. Terdapat Pengaruh Gaya Komunikasi Pemimpin terhadap Disiplin Kerja Pegawai. Dari hasil korelasi skala Guilford gaya komunikasi pemimpin terhadap disiplin kerja pegawai adalah sangat tinggi dan kuat sekali. Dari hasil Uji Determinan Korelasi menunjukkan Terdapat Pengaruh Gaya Komunikasi Pemimpin sebanyak 93,1% terhadap Disiplin Kerja Pegawai dan pengaruhnya sangat tinggi, selebihnya yakni sebesar 6,9% dapat dipengaruhi oleh faktor-faktor lainnya

Digital Marketing Among the Millennials Generation of MSMEs in Serdang Bedagai Regency

This article intends to describe the phenomenon of conventional marketing transitioning to digital marketing by millennial-generation MSMEs in Serdang Bedagai Regency in marketing their products. Internet access in Indonesia is generally quite extensive; at this time, the average house has one cellphone that has an Internet connection. The millennial generation of MSME actors in Serdang Bedagai Regency has also known the benefits and advantages of digital marketing. However, the marketing method and the choice of digital platforms cannot be generalized for all types of MSMEs and their target markets. This article is based on qualitative research and descriptive analysis. The results found that most digital marketing was carried out through applications on smartphones rather than computers (laptops or desktops). The choice of media platforms is also adjusted to the target market and economic level as well as the user's understanding, so many MSME actors prefer social media based on mobile applications that are easy for them to access

KONSEP SADD AL-ZARAI’ DAN AKTUALISASINYA DALAM TRANSAKSI JUAL BELI

Preventive action by closing or prohibiting something that is basically permissible to prevent mafsadah or damage that is feared to occur if this is allowed. Thus sometimes people translate the meaning of the concept of sadd al-żarāi '. Pola Penggunaan Instagram di Kalangan Siswa Siswi Kelas XI SMA NEGERI 7 Kota Medan

Media Sosial menjadi hal yang tidak dapat terpisahkan di kalangan siswa-siswi kelas XI SMA Negeri 7 Medan, sehingga menarik untuk dilakukan studi deskriptif kuantitatif yang bertujuan untuk mengetahui pola penggunaan instagram di kalangan siswa-siswi tersebut. Teori yang relevan dalam penelitian ini adalah Media social, teori Uses and Gratification. Populasi dalam penelitian ini siswa-siswi kelas XI SMA Negeri 7 Medan. Penentuan Sampel menggunakan rumus slovin dengan presisi 10%, tingkat kepercayaan 90%. Sampel sebanyak 71 orang. Teknik penarikan sampel menggunakan Purposive Sampling dengan kriteria yaitu; siswa-siswi kelas XI SMA Negeri 7 Medan, aktif menggunakan akun instagram. Pengumpulan data melalui penelitian lapangan menggunakan survei dan kuisioner. Analisis data melalui analisis tabel tunggal dengan menggunakan program SPSS 24, dianalisis dan diinterpretasikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: Penggunaan instagram di kalangan siswa-siswi kelas XI SMA Negeri 7 Medan kategori intensitas aktif sampai sekarang, frekuensi penggunaannya berkisar 1-2 jam setiap hari, motif yang digunakan dalam memilih instagram: informasi, identitas pribadi, integritas, interaksi sosial dan hiburan. Simpulan; Instagram adalah media sosial yang mampu memenuhi kebutuhan para siswa siswi tersebut yakni kebutuhan kognitif, afektif, update informasi,  integrasi pribadi dan interaksi sosial sebagai konten menarik di kalangan siswa-siswi SMA Negeri 7 Medan. Salah satu manfaat yang dapat dirasakan adalah memperoleh informasi terkini, menambah wawasan, membangun hubungan, hampir keseluruhan siswa-siswi merasakan manfaat berupa informasi dan hiburan melalui instagram

Efektifitas Perbandingan Buerger Allen Exercise dan Senam Kaki terhadap Nilai ABI pada Penderita DM Tipe II

The purpose of this study is to obtain a comparison of the effectiveness of the Buerger Allen Exercise and foot exercises on the value of the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) in patients with Type II Diabetes Mellitus. This research method is a quantitative method with a research design Quasi Experiment pre and post test two groups. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the value of the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) before and after being given Buerger Allen Exercise and foot exercises, namely p <0.05 with the difference in the average difference in the increase in ABI values in the Buerger Allen Exercise group of 0.0820, while in the leg exercise group, the difference in the average increase in the ABI value was 0.0726. MEDIA LITERACY TRAINING FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN MEDAN CITY

The phenomenon of internet use, especially social media among teenagers in high school students shows an increase. Some cases show up such as: cyberbullying, trafficking, hoaxes and hate speech. The purpose of community service is to prepared high school students have knowledge and skills in internet media literacy, especially social media. The training participants numbered 42 people, consisting of: SMA N 1, SMA N 2, SMA Harapan Mandiri, SMA Harapan 3, and SMA Bimsa Medan. Form of community service activities by mapping problems through Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Then do the training for two days. The results of the FGD and Seminar shows that the use of the internet, especially social media, includes a very high category of six hours per day. The most widely accessed social media are Instagram and Whatsapp. The purpose they access is to find out information about friends, celebrities, and activities / events that happening around them. Generally high school students have made efforts to choose good media content and avoid bad content, such as violence and pornography. High school students try to read messages on social media well and think about what will be written. They do things like this to avoid the law as stated in the Indonesia ITE Law
