On general systems with network-enhanced complexities
In recent years, the study of networked control systems (NCSs) has gradually become an active research area due to the advantages of using networked media in many aspects such as the ease of maintenance and installation, the large flexibility and the low cost. It is well known that the devices in networks are mutually connected via communication cables that are of limited capacity. Therefore, some network-induced phenomena have inevitably emerged in the areas of signal processing and control engineering. These phenomena include, but are not limited to, network-induced communication delays, missing data, signal quantization, saturations, and channel fading. It is of great importance to understand how these phenomena influence the closed-loop stability and performance properties
Multipartite quantum correlation and entanglement in four-qubit pure states
Based on the quantitative complementarity relations, we analyze thoroughly
the properties of multipartite quantum correlations and entanglement in
four-qubit pure states. We find that, unlike the three-qubit case, the single
residual correlation, the genuine three- and four-qubit correlations are not
suited to quantify entanglement. More interestingly, from our qualitative and
numerical analysis, it is conjectured that the sum of all the residual
correlations may constitute a good measure for the total multipartite
entanglement in the system.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figue
Continuous variable entanglement measurement without phase locking
A new simple entanglement measurement method is proposed for the bright EPR
beams generated from a non-degenerate optical parametric amplifier operating at
deamplification. Due to the output signal and idler modes are frequency
degenerate and in phase, the needed phase shift of interference for the
measurement of the correlated phase quadratures and anti-correlated amplitude
quadratures can be accomplished by a quarter-wave plate and a half wave plate
without separating the signal and idler beam. Therefore, phase locking and
local oscillators are avoided.Comment: 8 pages,3 figure
Generalized Remote Preparation of Arbitrary -qubit Entangled States via Genuine Entanglements
Herein, we present a feasible, general protocol for quantum communication
within a network via generalized remote preparation of an arbitrary -qubit
entangled state designed with genuine tripartite
Greenberger--Horne--Zeilinger-type entangled resources. During the
implementations, we construct novel collective unitary operations; these
operations are tasked with performing the necessary phase transfers during
remote state preparations. We have distilled our implementation methods into a
five-step procedure, which can be used to faithfully recover the desired state
during transfer. Compared to previous existing schemes, our methodology
features a greatly increased success probability. After the consumption of
auxiliary qubits and the performance of collective unitary operations, the
probability of successful state transfer is increased four-fold and eight-fold
for arbitrary two- and three-qubit entanglements when compared to other methods
within the literature, respectively. We conclude this paper with a discussion
of the presented scheme for state preparation, including: success
probabilities, reducibility and generalizability.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures, 3 tables, Accepted to Entrop
High-Resolution Structure of the N-Terminal Endonuclease Domain of the Lassa Virus L Polymerase in Complex with Magnesium Ions
Lassa virus (LASV) causes deadly hemorrhagic fever disease for which there are no vaccines and limited treatments. LASV-encoded L polymerase is required for viral RNA replication and transcription. The functional domains of L–a large protein of 2218 amino acid residues–are largely undefined, except for the centrally located RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRP) motif. Recent structural and functional analyses of the N-terminal region of the L protein from lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV), which is in the same Arenaviridae family as LASV, have identified an endonuclease domain that presumably cleaves the cap structures of host mRNAs in order to initiate viral transcription. Here we present a high-resolution crystal structure of the N-terminal 173-aa region of the LASV L protein (LASV L173) in complex with magnesium ions at 1.72 Å. The structure is highly homologous to other known viral endonucleases of arena- (LCMV NL1), orthomyxo- (influenza virus PA), and bunyaviruses (La Crosse virus NL1). Although the catalytic residues (D89, E102 and K122) are highly conserved among the known viral endonucleases, LASV L endonuclease structure shows some notable differences. Our data collected from in vitro endonuclease assays and a reporter-based LASV minigenome transcriptional assay in mammalian cells confirm structural prediction of LASV L173 as an active endonuclease. The high-resolution structure of the LASV L endonuclease domain in complex with magnesium ions should aid the development of antivirals against lethal Lassa hemorrhagic fever
Performance analysis with network-enhanced complexities: On fading measurements, event-triggered mechanisms, and cyber attacks

For networked systems, especially large-scale systems such as multiagent systems and systems over sensor networks, the complexities are inevitably enhanced in terms of their degrees or intensities because of the usage of the communication networks. Therefore, it would be interesting to (1) examine how this kind of network-enhanced complexities affects the control or filtering performance; and (2) develop some suitable approaches for controller/filter design problems. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the performance analysis and synthesis with three sorts of fashionable network-enhanced complexities, namely, fading measurements, event-triggered mechanisms, and attack behaviors of adversaries. First, these three kinds of complexities are introduced in detail according to their engineering backgrounds, dynamical characteristic, and modelling techniques. Then, the developments of the performance analysis and synthesis issues for various networked systems are systematically reviewed. Furthermore, some challenges are illustrated by using a thorough literature review and some possible future research directions are highlighted. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61134009, 61329301, 61203139, 61374127, and 61374010, the Royal Society of the UK, and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany
The structure of parafermion vertex operator algebras
It is proved that the parafermion vertex operator algebra associated to the
irreducible highest weight module for the affine Kac-Moody algebra A_1^{(1)} of
level k coincides with a certain W-algebra. In particular, a set of generators
for the parafermion vertex operator algebra is determined.Comment: 12 page
