The following thesis, Management Model in Human Resources in the mining company Gold Fields La Cima S.A A success story in the mining sector, details the strategies used by the Human Resources Area. These strategies have allowed the company to efficiently manage the processes under its responsibility by applying national and international standards. The corporate values, the vision, the objectives, the commitments assumed, the strategic map, the levels and interrelationships of the balanced scorecard, the processes, and the success factors that differentiate it from other companies in the mining sector will be mentioned. In this regard, a broad set of implemented labor practices are discussed. The objectives and strategies of each sector have been aligned with the annual strategic plan of the corporation. Likewise, the Human Resources Plan is prepared, considering the criteria of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) model, which is also part of the policies applied throughout the company. On the other hand, details of the findings are found in this paragraph and the next one. Gold Fields ' disruptive approach to its leader's actions and decision-making is the main factor that makes Gold Fields differenciate from other mining companies. Having high orientation to their community is reflected in creative practices oriented to the service of the collaborators, prioritizing their well-being and valuing their experience in the company. Evidently, their main focus is the community. Prioritization ahead of production has evidenced their high respect for the workers and their families. Their primary focus is also reflected in its strategy during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is made visible with prevention actions with standards above what is established by national legislation and the Ministry of Health. Additionally, other essential success factors are detailed. Some of these are the excellent management of the employer brand internally and externally, the effective communication with the union in the management, a solid gender equity policy, and constant recognition to collaborators. Alongside, leaders' position has helped transmit empowerment to their collaborators and generate bonds of trust with their teams, allowing them to have horizontal communication. Likewise, the assurance of succession within the company, the training of leaders, the emphasis on technical and soft skills, the constant evaluation of the practice of values, the focus on the internal client, the excellent management of compensation, and the high-level benefits offer. In the personnel hiring process, there is an unusual strategy. This process prioritizes the candidate's election who demonstrates personal values aligned with the company's corporate values. This evaluation guarantees the permanence of the business strategies that reinforce the culture established in the organization. In the candidate selection process, the fulfillment of the technical requirements are placed in the background, reinforced with advice from the immediate boss. The findings suggest that the success factors focus on providing optimal conditions for collaborators within their camp, both for direct Gold Fields personnel and for their foreign or community contractors, maintaining respect for the company's culture. Influence zone. Lastly, it is essential to highlight the role assumed by the Human Resources Vice Presidency team leader. Her service profile and her communication and leadership skills have allowed her to have the support of the senior management sector, permitted her to participate in high-level strategic plans and, as a consequence, the execution of the success as mentioned above factors

The definitive version was published in Journal of Geophysical Research: Oceans 122 (2017): 1974–1994, doi:10.1002/2016JC012228.We present measurements from two shipboard surveys conducted in summer 2012 that sampled the rim current system around the Nordic Seas from Fram Strait to Denmark Strait. The data reveal that, along a portion of the western boundary of the Nordic Seas, the East Greenland Current (EGC) has three distinct components. In addition to the well-known shelfbreak branch, there is an inshore branch on the continental shelf as well as a separate branch offshore of the shelfbreak. The inner branch contributes significantly to the overall freshwater transport of the rim current system, and the outer branch transports a substantial amount of Atlantic-origin Water equatorward. Supplementing our measurements with historical hydrographic data, we argue that the offshore branch is a direct recirculation of the western branch of the West Spitsbergen Current in Fram Strait. The total transport of the shelfbreak EGC (the only branch sampled consistently in all of the sections) decreased toward Denmark Strait. The estimated average transport of dense overflow water (rh > 27.8 kg/m3 and h>08C) in the shelfbreak EGC was 2.860.7 Sv, consistent with previous moored measurements. For the three sections that crossed the entire EGC system the freshwater flux, relative to a salinity of 34.8, ranged from 127613 to 8168 mSv. The hydrographic data reveal that, between Fram Strait and Denmark Strait, the core of the Atlantic-origin Water in the shelfbreak EGC cools and freshens but changes very little in density.Norwegian Research Council Grant Number: 231647; European Union 7th Framework Grant Number: 308299; National Science Foundation Grant Number: OCE-09593812017-09-1

The effects of the biosolids applications on physical properties (bulk density, porosity and soil structural stability) in a soil of sugarcane crop and crop yield were evaluated. The experiment was carried out in the in the Cañaveralejo wastewater treatment plant at Cali, Colombia using a randomized complete block experimental design, two replications and eight treatments: (soil without biosolids application and without mineral fertilization (To), and soil with mineral fertilization (FM)), and six treatments with biosolids application to 100% and 200% of the dose required nitrogen by the crop as follows: BD100-BD200 dehydrated biosolids, BST100-BST200 thermally dried biosolids, and BA100-BA200 alkalinized biosolids. Results showed that significant differences were not found in soil physical properties and crop yield but trends to decrease the values of bulk density (1.33 Mg m-3 to 1.29 Mg m-3) and microporosity (48.8% to 45.8%), and to increase the values of structural stability (1.8 mm to 3.1 mm) and macroporosity (2% to 5%) were identified, which favor the water-air relation in the soil.

The host metabolite D-serine contributes to bacterial niche specificity through gene selection

Escherichia coli comprise a diverse array of both commensals and niche-specific pathotypes. The ability to cause disease results from both carriage of specific virulence factors and regulatory control of these via environmental stimuli. Moreover, host metabolites further refine the response of bacteria to their environment and can dramatically affect the outcome of the host–pathogen interaction. Here, we demonstrate that the host metabolite, D-serine, selectively affects gene expression in E. coli O157:H7. Transcriptomic profiling showed exposure to D-serine results in activation of the SOS response and suppresses expression of the Type 3 Secretion System (T3SS) used to attach to host cells. We also show that concurrent carriage of both the D-serine tolerance locus (dsdCXA) and the locus of enterocyte effacement pathogenicity island encoding a T3SS is extremely rare, a genotype that we attribute to an ‘evolutionary incompatibility’ between the two loci. This study demonstrates the importance of co-operation between both core and pathogenic genetic elements in defining niche specificity

Albiglutide and cardiovascular outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (Harmony Outcomes): a double-blind, randomised placebo-controlled trial

Background: Glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists differ in chemical structure, duration of action, and in their effects on clinical outcomes. The cardiovascular effects of once-weekly albiglutide in type 2 diabetes are unknown. We aimed to determine the safety and efficacy of albiglutide in preventing cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or stroke. Methods: We did a double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled trial in 610 sites across 28 countries. We randomly assigned patients aged 40 years and older with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease (at a 1:1 ratio) to groups that either received a subcutaneous injection of albiglutide (30–50 mg, based on glycaemic response and tolerability) or of a matched volume of placebo once a week, in addition to their standard care. Investigators used an interactive voice or web response system to obtain treatment assignment, and patients and all study investigators were masked to their treatment allocation. We hypothesised that albiglutide would be non-inferior to placebo for the primary outcome of the first occurrence of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or stroke, which was assessed in the intention-to-treat population. If non-inferiority was confirmed by an upper limit of the 95% CI for a hazard ratio of less than 1·30, closed testing for superiority was prespecified. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT02465515. Findings: Patients were screened between July 1, 2015, and Nov 24, 2016. 10 793 patients were screened and 9463 participants were enrolled and randomly assigned to groups: 4731 patients were assigned to receive albiglutide and 4732 patients to receive placebo. On Nov 8, 2017, it was determined that 611 primary endpoints and a median follow-up of at least 1·5 years had accrued, and participants returned for a final visit and discontinuation from study treatment; the last patient visit was on March 12, 2018. These 9463 patients, the intention-to-treat population, were evaluated for a median duration of 1·6 years and were assessed for the primary outcome. The primary composite outcome occurred in 338 (7%) of 4731 patients at an incidence rate of 4·6 events per 100 person-years in the albiglutide group and in 428 (9%) of 4732 patients at an incidence rate of 5·9 events per 100 person-years in the placebo group (hazard ratio 0·78, 95% CI 0·68–0·90), which indicated that albiglutide was superior to placebo (p<0·0001 for non-inferiority; p=0·0006 for superiority). The incidence of acute pancreatitis (ten patients in the albiglutide group and seven patients in the placebo group), pancreatic cancer (six patients in the albiglutide group and five patients in the placebo group), medullary thyroid carcinoma (zero patients in both groups), and other serious adverse events did not differ between the two groups. There were three (<1%) deaths in the placebo group that were assessed by investigators, who were masked to study drug assignment, to be treatment-related and two (<1%) deaths in the albiglutide group. Interpretation: In patients with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, albiglutide was superior to placebo with respect to major adverse cardiovascular events. Evidence-based glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists should therefore be considered as part of a comprehensive strategy to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes. Distribución diamétrica de Pinus taeda en Bella Vista (Corrientes, Argentina). Tipo y comportamiento temporal

    No full text
