The Death of Kim Jong Il â a comment by Professor Arne Westad
The news of Kim Jong-ilâs death have been received with hopefulness in the West and with a certain sense of dread in East Asia. While Western policy-makers first a foremost saw Kim as the tyrannical head of a despotic state, a monster who mistreated his own population while himself living in luxury, an increasing number of Asians came to view him, in all his grotesqueness, as a guarantor for some form of stability on the Korean peninsula. For the latter, it was hard to imagine any change that would be â at least in the short run â for the better. So great is the fear of the consequences of a North Korean collapse in the region that even Kimâs belated turn to China was seen as a plus by other countries in the region, in the vague hope that Beijing would help steer North Korean foreign policy along a smoother course
Effective and Engaging Ways of Teaching the Civil Rights Movement to K-2 Students by Sarah Westad
The research question addressed in this project is, what are the most effective and engaging ways to teach K-2 students about the Civil Rights Movement while fostering meaningful connections to history? It documents the research and creation of a curriculum unit discussing the Civil Rights Movement as it existed in the past as well as in the 21st century. The curriculum unit developed in this capstone covers eleven instructional days beginning with slavery and ending with current events discussions. The capstone chapters address issues like master narrative myths, incorporating student experiences and interest, and research based practices. It looks at current ways that state standards and nationwide perceptions of the movement impact student learning. The capstone looks into theories and frameworks supporting interdisciplinary lessons and allowing students to construct individualized interpretations of the movement based on what it means to them on local community, state, and national levels. A Qâmethodology study of the type of support mentors need when assessing underperforming nursing students
Aims To identify and describe patterns of the shared viewpoints of nurse mentors about the support obtained from link lecturer in assessing underperforming students. Design Nonâexperimental, exploratory research design. Methods Qâmethodology was applied to explore the viewpoints of 26 mentors about support. The data were collected from MayâSeptember 2018. During the development of the Qâset, we combined a naturalistic and theoretical approach, resulting in 27 statements. The participants ranked statements into a Qâsort grid. PQâMethod 2.35 software was used to perform a principal component analysis to identify different patterns of the mentors' viewpoints. Results Five factors of shared viewpoints, which accounted for 62% of the total variance, were derived from the factor analysis: (a) Confident in professional assessment and expects respect from link lecturer; (b) confident about the limit but need guidance in documentation. (c) Confident in the assessment but need support to manage concerns; (d) require knowledge and skills but not emotional support; and (e) dialogue and collaboration rather than information. Conclusions Based on our findings, all mentors need different types of support from the link lecturer, depending on their experience as a mentor and nurse and educational credits in mentorship. The central principle identified in this study was that mentors need to feel secure in their role. The accessibility, approachability, and willingness of the link lecturer to participate in dialogue and collaboration are important, but emotional support is not. Impact Our findings provide insights into the type of support mentors need when assessing underperforming students. The findings highlight the necessity of a link lecturer who is accessible and is meeting the mentors' need for knowledge and skills about assessment and mentoring. The nurse education programme must prioritize resources to ensure that the link lecturer can followâup with the student and the mentor.publishedVersio
Masteroppgave i nordisk sprĂ„k og litteratur- Universitetet i Agder 2011Eg vart merksam ein plakat i gangen pĂ„ universitetet som meldte at "ALLMENNE LĂRER BĂKER SELGES", og han starta det som no er blitt til denne avhandlinga. Eg fatta interesse for allmennlĂŠrarstudentar og lurte pĂ„ korleis det stod til med rettskrivinga hjĂ„ framtidige lĂŠrarar. Kan hende feilskrivinga i overskrifta pĂ„ plakaten meldte kvifor bĂžkene skulle seljast? Gjennom ein empirisk studie har eg freista Ă„ danne eit bilete av kor godt eit utval pĂ„ 34 studentar frĂ„ to klassar pĂ„ allmennlĂŠrarstudiet ved Universitetet i Agder meistrar rettskrivingsnormer i bĂ„e mĂ„lformer. Eg har undersĂžkt 68 tekster, som desse studentane har skrive. Kvar student har skrive ei tekst pĂ„ sitt tidlegare hovudmĂ„l og ei tekst pĂ„ det som har vore sidemĂ„let. I allmennlĂŠrarstudiet er det bĂ„e mĂ„lformer som gjeld, utan nivĂ„skilnad. Gjennom analyse av desse tekstene hĂ„pa eg Ă„ kunne svare pĂ„ hovudproblemstillinga for avhandlinga, som er;
