    Tilapia lake virus (TiLV): Literature review

    Tilapia lake virus (TiLV) is an emerging infectious agent that has recently been identified in diseased tilapia on three continents. At the time of writing, scientific publications have reported TiLV in samples collected from Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, Israel and Thailand. While the link between TiLV and disease outbreaks in Israel and Thailand are well documented, further investigations are being undertaken to determine the significance of TiLV in the other countries. Israel and Taiwan Province of China have made a notification of TiLV as an emerging disease to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). Studies have shown that populations infected with TiLV show variable levels of morbidity and mortality. This report summarizes the currently available scientific information on TiLV, including clinical signs, diagnostics and epidemiology. While of no concern to human health, the consequences of infection with TiLV in tilapia populations may potentially result in socio economic losses and impacts on food security

    Traffic optimization at the Application Level Proof of Concept, development and usefulness evaluation of the ALTO solution

    This paper presents an overview, proof of concept, and a preliminary demonstrative benchmarking study of the Application-Layer Traffic Optimization (ALTO) architecture proposed by the IETF ALTO Working Group. The main ALTO system purpose is to allow applications to get a more complete view of the underlying network infrastructure, allowing for wellreasoned connection decisions in situations of service redundancy. This paper first begins with a technical description of the ALTO project, and afterwards evaluates how P2P applications, guided by our proposed prototype implementation of the ALTO architecture, perform in comparison to traditional peer selection algorithms on the task of downloading a file in a typical file-sharing P2P network environment. The obtained results from our developed ALTO prototype system state that an application guided by the ALTO solution reduced overall network usage by around 40% with no significant impact in the application performance.FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the R&D Units Project Scope: UIDB/00319/202

    Inclusion of dried small fish in the ICDS Supplementary Nutrition Programme Pilot Study in Odisha, India

    Aquatic foods, especially fish, have long been regarded as a rich source of animal protein and micronutrients, and, therefore, considered a key constituent of nutritious diets. With a common goal of enhancing the nutritional outcomes from aquatic foods and to assist in accelerating progress on reducing malnutrition in hard-to-reach tribal communities, USAID and WorldFish along with other partner organizations such as Fisheries and Animal Resources Development (FARD) and Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (ICAR-CIFT) collaborated with the Women and Child Development Department and Mission Shakti (WCD & MS) of the government of Odisha to pilot the inclusion of small fish and fish-based products in the SNP. Subsequently, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by WorldFish and WCD & MS on 10th November 2020. Specifically, this piloting involves the inclusion of small fish powder in HCM for 3-6-year-old children and dried small fish in THR for Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) and 14-18-year-old Adolescent Girls (AG). Based on an approved Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the pilot has been implemented in 50 Anganwadi Centers of Kaptipada block, Mayurbhanj district and the duration of the project was 6 months starting from April 2021 to September 2021. Based on feedback and acceptance received from the community of the inclusion of dried fish-based products in SNP, as well as enhanced understanding on nutritional outcomes from aquatic foods congregated from the pilot, this nutrition-sensitive approach can be adopted and scaled to ameliorate the undernutrition scenarios across Odisha

    One of the probable reasons for this is the vulnerability of the state to the climate induced hazards like flood, erosion, drought, etc. which are adversely impacting the fishery sector of the state. In the year 2018, the state has launched World Bank assisted ‘Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART)’ with fisheries as a subcomponent. Through this project, WorldFish is extending the technical support to the state with its international experience and expertise. One of the focus areas of WorldFish is climate-proofing the fishery sector of the state by developing and promoting climate-resilient technologies. The purpose is to counter the negative impacts of climate change, mainly the pond aquaculture and Beel fisheries, and to push the fish production of the state upward. The outcome of the present study would support the resilience of fisheries and aquaculture production systems in order to increase fish production and reduce the risks associated with climate change, in the targeted districts of Assam

    Ferroelectric hafnium-zirconium oxide is one of the most relevant CMOS-compatible materials for next-generation, non-volatile memory devices. Nevertheless, performance reliability remains an issue. With TiN electrodes (the most reported electrode material), Hf-Zr-based ferroelectric capacitors struggle to provide reliable retention due to electrode-ferroelectric interface interactions. Although Hf-Zr-based ferroelectric capacitors are fabricated with other electrodes, the focus is predominantly directed toward obtaining a large ferroelectric response. The impact of the electrodes on data retention for these ferroelectrics remains underreported and greater insight is needed to improve device reliability. Here, a comprehensive set of electrodes are evaluated with emphasis on the core ferroelectric memory reliability metrics of endurance, retention, and imprint. Metal-ferroelectric-metal capacitors comprised of a Hf0.5Zr0.5O2 layer deposited between different combinations of nitride (TiN, TiAlN, and NbN), pure metal (W), and oxide (MoO2, RuO2, and IrO2) top and bottom electrodes are fabricated for the investigation. From the electrical, physical, and structural analysis, the low reactivity of the electrode with the ferroelectric is found to be key for improved reliability of the ferroelectric capacitor. This understanding of interface properties provides necessary insight for the broad implementation of Hf-Zr-based ferroelectrics in memory technology and, overall, boosts the development of next-generation memories

    Posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (PRES) can present with focal neurologic deficits, mimicking a stroke and can often represent a diagnostic challenge when presenting atypically. A high degree of suspicion is required in the clinical setting in order to yield the diagnosis. Cerebral CT perfusion (CTP) is utilized in many institutions as the first line in acute stroke imaging. CTP has proved to be a very sensitive measure of cerebral blood flow dynamics, most commonly employed to delineate the infarcted tissue from penumbra (at-risk tissue) in ischemic strokes. But abnormal CTP is also seen in stroke mimics such as seizures, hypoglycemia, tumors, migraines and PRES. In this article we describe a case of PRES in an elderly bone marrow transplant recipient who presented with focal neurological deficits concerning for a cerebrovascular accident. CTP played a pivotal role in the diagnosis and initiation of appropriate management. We also briefly discuss the pathophysiology of PRES
