Strategic Behaviour, Resource Valuation and Competition in Electricity Markets

By means of a suitable Bayesian game we study spot electricity markets from a structural point of view. We address the problem of individual and aggregate eficciency and we show how to value water from market observables. We compare the former to engineering methods and apply our methodology to Colombian spot electricity market. Our results show that big gas and small hydro plants overbid, resources are undervalued by engineering costs and aggregate costs would have been considerably smaller if agents had played optimally. Revealed costs show a substantial gain in eficciency in the Vickrey auction compared to the actual uniform auction.Multi-unit auctions, Oligopoly, electricity markets

On the existence of pure strategy equilibria in large generalized games with atomic players

We consider a game with a continuum of players where only a finite number of them are atomic. Objective functions and admissible strategies may depend on the actions chosen by atomic players and on aggregate information about the actions chosen by non-atomic players. Only atomic players are required to have convex sets of admissible strategies and quasi-concave objective functions. We prove the existence of a pure strategy Nash equilibria. Thus, we extend to large generalized games with atomic players the results of equilibrium existence for non-atomic games of Schemeidler (1973) and Rath (1992). We do not obtain a pure strategy equilibrium by purification of mixed strategy equilibria. Thus, we have a direct proof of both Balder (1999, Theorem 2.1) and Balder (2002, Theorem 2.2.1), for the case where non-atomic players have a common non-empty set of strategies and integrable bounded codification of action profiles. Our main result is readily applicable to many interesting problems in general equilibrium. As an application, we extend Aumann (1966) result on the existence of equilibrium with a continuum of traders to a standard general equilibrium model with incomplete asset markets.Generalized games; Non-convexities; Pure-strategy Nash equilibrium

Assessment of general bullying and bullying due to appearance of teeth in a sample of 11-16 year-old Peruvian schoolchildren.

Abstract: Objective: To assess the incidence of general bullying and bullying due to the appearance of teeth in a sample of 11-16 year-old Peruvian schoolchildren. Materials and methods: Cross-sectional study with a sample of 218 students aged 11 to 16 years old (13.41±1.44), 109 males, and 153 from a public school. A survey on general bullying and the appearance of teeth was applied using a validated questionnaire. Results: The frequency of general bullying was 32.57%, and bullying due to dental appearance was 18.81%. General bullying (p=0.005) and dental appearance (p=0.024) were more frequent in the public school, but there were no statistically significant differences according to sex. The highest frequency of general bullying was related to name-calling, which accounted for 47.71%. Victimization by appearance of teeth in one or two occasions in the last two months accounted for 12.39%, according to participating subjects. Bilateral hyperplasia of the coronoid process. Clinical case report with unusual presentation and literary review.

The formation of a new joint between a pathologically enlarged coronoid process and the body of the malar bone is known as Jacob's disease. Hyperplasia of the coronoid process was first described in 1853 by von Langenbeck, and it was not until 1899 when Oscar Jacob described the disease that was named after him. Jacob's disease is an uncommon entity with only a few cases documented in the literature. The condition manifests at first with progressive limitation of the oral opening and facial asymmetry. The pain is infrequent and mainly affects young patients. Temporal muscle hyperactivity, cranial trauma, chronic displacement of the ipsilateral temporomandibular joint, endocrine stimuli and genetic alterations have been postulated as possible factors. The definitive diagnosis is by histopathology and it is necessary that bone hyperplasia is confirmed, as well as the presence of cartilage and synovial capsule forming the new joint between the malar bone and the coronoid process. We present a 10-year-old patient with a history of childhood trauma in the left preauricular region. It presented to our service with a history of progressive limitation of the oral opening. Computed tomography (CT) revealed an elongation of the bilateral coronoid process, in contact with homolateral zygomatic bone, causing its deformation. Surgery under general anesthesia was performed through the intraoral vestibular route. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of Jacob's disease. We review the literature regarding the etiology, pathogenesis, clinical characteristics, diagnosis and treatment of this condition. Hiperplasia bilateral del proceso coronoideo. Reporte de caso clínico con presentación inusual y revisión literaria.La formación de una nueva articulación entre un proceso coronoideo agrandado patológicamente y el cuerpo del hueso malar se conoce como enfermedad de Jacob. La hiperplasia del proceso coronoideo fue descrita por primera vez en 1853 por von Langenbeck, y no fue hasta 1899 cuando Oscar Jacob describió la enfermedad que recibió su nombre. La enfermedad de Jacob es poco común con pocos casos documentados en la literatura. La condición se manifiesta al principio con una limitación progresiva de la apertura oral y la asimetría facial. El dolor es poco frecuente y afecta principalmente a pacientes jóvenes. Hiperactividad muscular temporal, traumatismo craneal, desplazamiento crónico de la articulación temporomandibular ipsilateral, estímulos endocrinos y alteraciones genéticas se han postulado como posibles factores.  El diagnóstico definitivo se realiza por histopatología y es necesario confirmar la hiperplasia ósea, así como la presencia de cartílago y cápsula sinovial que forman la nueva articulación entre el hueso malar y el proceso coronoideo. Presentamos a un paciente de 10 años con antecedentes de trauma infantil en la región preauricular izquierda. El se presentó a nuestro servicio con una historia de progresiva limitación de la apertura oral. La tomografía computarizada (TC) reveló una elongación del proceso coronoideo bilateral, en contacto con el hueso cigomático homolateral, causando su deformación. La cirugía bajo anestesia general se realizó a través de la vía vestibular intraoral. La histopatología confirmó el diagnóstico de enfermedad de Jacob. Revisamos la literatura sobre la etiología, patogénesis, características clínicas, diagnóstico y tratamiento de esta condición.

Historiografía del cine colombiano 1974-2015

Este artículo realiza un balance del estado actual de la investigación histórica sobre el cine colombiano. Con este fin, se buscó, leyó, reseñó y registró en una base de datos 96 trabajos entre artículos, capítulos de libro y libros, los cuales se dividieron en 9 grupos con características más o menos comunes: 1) historias “panorámicas”, 2) público y exhibición, 3) censura, crítica y cineclubes, 4) bio-filmografías, 5) representaciones cinematográficas de lugares o sujetos colectivos, 6) formatos y géneros, 7) cine mudo, 8) “primer cine sonoro”, y 9) cine de los sesenta y setenta. Finalmente, se enuncian algunos campos de investigación que consideramos promisorios, como lo son la historia tecnológica y económica, la historia de los públicos y la historia de la relación del cine con otros medios.This article makes a balance about the actual state of the historical investigation in colombian cinema. With that in mind, we searched, read, reviewed and registered in a database more than 96 works of articles, book chapters and books. We divided in 9 groups with similar characteristics: 1) Panoramic histories, 2) exhibition and publics, 3) censorship, criticism and film clubs, 4) bio-filmography, 5) cinema representations about places or collective subjects, 6) formats and genres, 7) silent film, 8) "first sound cinema", 9) 70s and 80s cinema. In conclusion we mention some promising investigation fields, like technological and economic history, publics history and the history between cinema and others media

TCP-Based distributed offloading architecture for the future of untethered immersive experiences in wireless networks

IMX '22: ACM International Conference on Interactive Media Experiences, 22-24 June 2022, Aveiro, Portugal.Task offloading has become a key term in the field of immersive media technologies: it can enable lighter and cheaper devices while providing them higher remote computational capabilities. In this paper we present our TCP-based offloading architecture. The architecture, has been specifically designed for immersive media offloading tasks with a particular care in reducing any processing overhead which can degrade the network performance. We tested the architecture for different offloading scenarios and conditions on two different wireless networks: WiFi and 5G millimeter wave technologies. Besides, to test the network on alternative millimeter wave configurations, currently not available on the actual 5G millimeter rollouts, we used a 5G Radio Access Network (RAN) real-time emulator. This emulator was also used to test the offloading architecture for an simulated immersive user sharing network resources with other users. We provide insights of the importance of user prioritization techniques for successful immersive media offloading. Creación de empresa de confecciones de uniformes para atender el mercado estudiantil de la ciudad de Palmira

El presente trabajo fue realizado para mostrar lo beneficioso e interesante del sector de la confección en Colombia por medio de la Creación de una empresa y la aplicabilidad de los conceptos teóricos y prácticos aprendidos. Se desarrollo una investigación de mercados exploratoria donde detectamos la oportunidad de atender un segmento especifico muy llamativo, a partir de ahí vimos la posibilidad y la necesidad de expandir el taller y organizarlo para que ofrezca productos a instituciones pequeñas como liceos y jardines infantiles de la ciudad de Palmira. Se comenzó a analizar la viabilidad de la creación de la empresa de Confecciones en la ciudad de Palmira y como seria su proyección a mediano plazo. Identificamos los jardines y liceos que podían ser clientes potenciales y a los cuales se les podía diseñar los productos de acuerdo a las necesidades y perfiles de la institución. Nos dimos cuenta de que el proyecto tendría un impacto en la población gracias a la generación de nuevos puestos de trabajo en la ciudad de Palmira llegando a madres cabeza de familia y la creación de empleos indirectos, por esto se creo Between Clothes el nombre comercial que se utilizó para la formalización de la empresa dedicada a la manufactura y comercialización de uniformes en diferentes presentaciones; siendo su producto estrella los uniformes de educación física, la cual se encuentra ubicada en la ciudad de Palmira. Los productos son una prenda de vestir para niños. La ventaja competitiva de la empresa se encuentra en el diseño debido a que estos son productos exclusivos en los que se utiliza el servicio de tallaje personalizado que van de la mano con los cambios de tendencia en cuanto a la moda, además la aplicación de una cultura de servicio, originando una identidad, pues un excelente manejo de este hace la verdadera diferenciación para que los clientes se sientan satisfechos y perciban constantemente la calidad total en cada uno de los valores agregados del producto.
