Critical behavior of disordered systems with replica symmetry breaking
A field-theoretic description of the critical behavior of weakly disordered
systems with a -component order parameter is given. For systems of an
arbitrary dimension in the range from three to four, a renormalization group
analysis of the effective replica Hamiltonian of the model with an interaction
potential without replica symmetry is given in the two-loop approximation. For
the case of the one-step replica symmetry breaking, fixed points of the
renormalization group equations are found using the Pade-Borel summing
technique. For every value , the threshold dimensions of the system that
separate the regions of different types of the critical behavior are found by
analyzing those fixed points. Specific features of the critical behavior
determined by the replica symmetry breaking are described. The results are
compared with those obtained by the -expansion and the scope of the

Numerical Results For The 2D Random Bond 3-state Potts Model
We present results of a numerical simulation of the 3-state Potts model with
random bond, in two dimension. In particular, we measure the critical exponent
associated to the magnetization and the specific heat. We also compare these

Submicron gate InP power MISFET's with improved output power density at 18 and 20 GHz
The microwave characteristics are presented at 18 and 20 GHz of submicron gate indium phosphide (InP) metal-insulator-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MISFET's) for high output power density applications. InP power MISFET's were fabricated and the output power density was investigated as a function of drain-source spacing. The best output power density and gain were obtained for drain-source spacing of 3 microns. The output power density is 2.7 times greater than was previously measured for InP MISFET's at 18 and 20 GHz, and the power-added efficiency also increased
Online Pattern Recognition for the ALICE High Level Trigger
The ALICE High Level Trigger has to process data online, in order to select
interesting (sub)events, or to compress data efficiently by modeling
techniques.Focusing on the main data source, the Time Projection Chamber (TPC),
we present two pattern recognition methods under investigation: a sequential
approach "cluster finder" and "track follower") and an iterative approach
("track candidate finder" and "cluster deconvoluter"). We show, that the former
is suited for pp and low multiplicity PbPb collisions, whereas the latter might
be applicable for high multiplicity PbPb collisions, if it turns out, that more
than 8000 charged particles would have to be reconstructed inside the TPC.
Based on the developed tracking schemes we show, that using modeling techniques

Symmetry relation for multifractal spectra at random critical points
Random critical points are generically characterized by multifractal
properties. In the field of Anderson localization, Mirlin, Fyodorov,
Mildenberger and Evers [Phys. Rev. Lett 97, 046803 (2006)] have proposed that
the singularity spectrum of eigenfunctions satisfies the exact
symmetry at any Anderson transition. In the
present paper, we analyse the physical origin of this symmetry in relation with
the Gallavotti-Cohen fluctuation relations of large deviation functions that
are well-known in the field of non-equilibrium dynamics: the multifractal
spectrum of the disordered model corresponds to the large deviation function of
the rescaling exponent along a renormalization trajectory
in the effective time . We conclude that the symmetry discovered on
the specific example of Anderson transitions should actually be satisfied at
many other random critical points after an appropriate translation. For
many-body random phase transitions, where the critical properties are usually
analyzed in terms of the multifractal spectrum and of the moments
exponents X(N) of two-point correlation function [A. Ludwig, Nucl. Phys. B330,
639 (1990)], the symmetry becomes , or equivalently

Targeting COX-2 and EP4 to control tumor growth, angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis and metastasis to the lungs and lymph nodes in a breast cancer model
We reported that cyclo-oxygenase (COX)-2 expression in human breast cancer stimulated cancer cell migration and invasiveness, production of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-C and lymphangiogenesis in situ, largely from endogenous PGE2-mediated stimulation of prostaglandin E (EP)1 and EP4 receptors, presenting them as candidate therapeutic targets against lymphatic metastasis. As human breast cancer xenografts in immuno-compromised mice have limitations for preclinical testing, we developed a syngeneic murine breast cancer model of spontaneous lymphatic metastasis mimicking human and applied it for mechanistic and therapeutic studies. We tested the roles of COX-2 and EP receptors in VEGF-C and-D production by a highly metastatic COX-2 expressing murine breast cancer cell line C3L5. These cells expressed all EP receptors and produced VEGF-C and-D, both inhibited with COX-2 inhibitors or EP4 (but not EP1, EP2 or EP3) antagonists. C3H/HeJ mice, when implanted SC in both inguinal regions with C3L5 cells suspended in growth factor-reduced Matrigel, exhibited rapid tumor growth, tumor-associated angiogenesis and lymphangiogenesis (respectively measured with CD31 and LYVE-1 immunostaining), metastasis to the inguinal and axillary lymph nodes and the lungs. Chronic oral administration of COX-1/COX-2 inhibitor indomethacin, COX-2 inhibitor celecoxib and an EP4 antagonist ONO-AE3-208, but not an EP1 antagonist ONO-8713 at nontoxic doses markedly reduced tumor growth, lymphangiogenesis, angiogenesis, and metastasis to lymph nodes and lungs. Residual tumors in responding mice revealed reduced VEGF-C and-D proteins, AkT phosphorylation and increased apoptotic/proliferative cell ratios consistent with blockade of EP4 signaling. Serum osteoprotegerin levels are related to height loss: The Tromsø Study
Severe loss of body height is often a consequence of osteoporotic vertebral fractures. Osteoprotegerin (OPG) and receptor activator of nuclear factor-kB ligand (RANKL) are cytokines essential for the regulation of bone resorption. The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between the OPG/RANKL system and height loss. A total of 4,435 inhabitants from the municipality of Tromsø, Norway (2,169 men and 2,266 women) were followed for 6 years. Baseline measurements included height, weight, bone mineral density, OPG, RANKL, serum parathyroid hormone and information about lifestyle, prevalent diseases and use of medication. Height was measured again at follow-up, and the loss of height was categorized into 4 groups: â¤1, 1.1â2, 2.1â3, >3 cm. We found increasing height loss with increasing baseline OPG levels in both men and women (P trend = 0.02 and 0.001, respectively), after adjustments for age and other confounders. However, when the women were stratified according to menopausal status and use of hormone replacement therapy (HRT), a significant relationship was present only among postmenopausal women not using HRT (P trend = 0.02). No relations between OPG and height loss were found in post-menopausal HRT-users and premenopausal women (P trend âĽ0.39). We conclude that height loss is positively associated with OPG in men and in postmenopausal women not using HRT. No relationship was found between RANKL and height loss

COST ES0602: towards a European network on chemical weather forecasting and information systems
The COST ES0602 action provides a forum for benchmarking approaches and practices in data exchange and multi-model capabilities for chemical weather forecasting and near real-time information services in Europe. The action includes approximately 30 participants from 19 countries, and its duration is from 2007 to 2011 (<a href="http://www.chemicalweather.eu/" target="_blank">http://www.chemicalweather.eu/</a>). Major efforts have been dedicated in other actions and projects to the development of infrastructures for data flow. We have therefore aimed for collaboration with ongoing actions towards developing near real-time exchange of input data for air quality forecasting. We have collected information on the operational air quality forecasting models on a regional and continental scale in a structured form, and inter-compared and evaluated the physical and chemical structure of these models. We have also constructed a European chemical weather forecasting portal that includes links to most of the available chemical weather forecasting systems in Europe. The collaboration also includes the examination of the case studies that have been organized within COST-728, in order to inter-compare and evaluate the models against experimental data. We have also constructed an operational model forecasting ensemble. Data from a representative set of regional background stations have been selected, and the operational forecasts for this set of sites will be inter-compared and evaluated. The Action has investigated, analysed and reviewed existing chemical weather information systems and services, and will provide recommendations on best practices concerning the presentation and dissemination of chemical weather information towards the public and decision makers
