Hierarchical Data-Flow Graphs

Data-Flows are crucial to detect the dependency of statements and expressions in a programming language program. In the context of Static Application Security Testing (SAST), they are heavily used in different aspects, from detecting tainted data to understanding code dependency. In Checkmarx, these data flows are currently computed on the fly, but their efficiency is not the desired, especially when dealing with large projects. With this in mind, a new caching mechanism is being developed, based on hierarchical graphs. In this document, we discuss the basic idea behind this approach, the challenges found and the decisions put in place for the implementation. We will also share the first insights on speed improvements for a proof of concept implementation

Ciclos político económicos no mercado bolsista português

Mestrado em EconomiaO presente trabalho investiga e testa a teoria dos ciclos político económicos no âmbito do mercado bolsista Português, averiguando se os governos colocam em prática mecanismos, identificados pelas teorias existentes, para assegurarem a reeleição. Com este propósito, é estudado o impacto de factores políticos nos retornos e na volatilidade do indice bolsista PSI20, através da modelização GARCH(1,1). Os resultados não comprovam a existência de ciclos político económicos no índice bolsista nacional Português, ou seja, os factores politicos não influenciam os retornos do PSI20, apenas afetam a volatilidade.The present study aims to investigate and test the theory of political business cycles in the Portuguese stock market. Examining whether governments put into place the mechanisms identified by existing theories, to ensure re-election, using as evaluation instrument the Portuguese Stock Index 20. Therefore, we study the impact of political factors on the returns and volatility of the stock market through the GARCH (1.1) model. The results do not prove the existence of political business cycles in Portuguese stock market, i.e. political factors do not influence the returns PSI20, only affect the volatility

Para a Universidade Federal da Integração Latino-Americana (UNILA), cuja missão institucional é representada pela formação de recursos humanos que venham a contribuir com a integração latino-americana, com o desenvolvimento regional e com o intercâmbio cultural, científico e educacional da América Latina, as ferramentas para aumentar o tempo de preservação e ampliar o acesso à informação têm vital importância. Espera-se que o repositório venha a contribuir para o acesso livre de informações; facilitar a gestão da informação disponível em meio digital; preservar a memória institucional e ampliar a visibilidade e uso da produção intelectual desenvolvida na universidade. Information systems in healthcare: potential of mobile systems. The case of INEM

The information systems are an asset in the capacity of institutions to improve their business. As the potential of mobile systems is increasing, especially in healthcare, it is diagnosed the information system of INEM (National Institute for Medical Emergency) in some of its weaknesses and changes. In the case of human lives, which require speed and quality of care in a specific context and location, it is essential that healthcare institutions implement mobile and context-aware systems in order to prevent gaps in care since the first contact with the patient. This paper shows a system’s architecture, provided by the technical and functional development department of a company (Algardata) for context-oriented systems in dynamic environments. The aim is, whenever the patient changes his location, to immediately discover the services that best fit his needs and determine the resources required, including the position of professionals who are on duty nearby

Local Oscillator Phase Noise Influence on Single Carrier and OFDM Modulations

Part 17: TelecommunicationsInternational audienceThis paper describes the influence of local oscillator phase noise on single and multi-carrier modulations schemes. The oscillator has the main role on modulation and demodulation process of the radio frequency channels. The synchronization of the entire system depends on the accuracy of this circuit. This work is based on the simulation of these two scenarios under influence of a non-ideal oscillator. The output of the simulation scenario results of error vector magnitude, bit error rate and symbol error rate. The relation of these metrics with the local oscillator phase noise allows the performance estimation the global system. Macroscopic Distinguishability Between Quantum States Defining Different Phases of Matter: Fidelity and the Uhlmann Geometric Phase

We study the fidelity approach to quantum phase transitions (QPTs) and apply it to general thermal phase transitions (PTs). We analyze two particular cases: the Stoner-Hubbard itinerant electron model of magnetism and the BCS theory of superconductivity. In both cases we show that the sudden drop of the mixed state fidelity marks the line of the phase transition. We conduct a detailed analysis of the general case of systems given by mutually commuting Hamiltonians, where the non-analyticity of the fidelity is directly related to the non-analyticity of the relevant response functions (susceptibility and heat capacity), for the case of symmetry-breaking transitions. Further, on the case of BCS theory of superconductivity, given by mutually non-commuting Hamiltonians, we analyze the structure of the system's eigenvectors in the vicinity of the line of the phase transition showing that their sudden change is quantified by the emergence of a generically non-trivial Uhlmann mixed state geometric phase.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figures. Vinculação aos amigos e exploração vocacional: um estudo com alunos do 9º ano de escolaridade

Los individuos que participan activamente en la exploración de sí mismos y del mundo laboral toman mejores decisiones en su carrera (Jordaan, 1963, Parsons, 1909), resuelven positivamente las tareas vocacionales durante el ciclo de vida (Blustein, 1997, Super et al., 1996) y se adaptan fácilmente a los cambios que experimentan en los diferentes contextos de la vida (Savickas, 2005; Savickas et al., 2009). La literatura profesional destaca su papel de apoyo en la exploración de carrera (Blustein et al., 1995), y la investigación empírica ofrece interesante resultados respecto al papel de los compañeros en este proceso (Kracke, 2002; Kenny & Bledsoe, 2005), que destaca que las relaciones fuertes y seguras con amigos conducen a un aumento en la actividad exploratoria. En este contexto, presentamos un estudio (N = 76) que explora la relación entre el apego a iguales y la exploración de carreras. Los resultados del análisis de regresiones lineales revelaron que el apego a los iguales predice la variación en algunas dimensiones de exploración de carreras, incluyendo: organismos externos, exploración de uno mismo, exploración sistemática y estrés en el proceso de exploración. Las implicaciones de estos resultados se discuten en el contexto de intervención vocacional.Individuals who engage actively in the exploration of self and of the occupational world make better career decisions (Jordaan, 1963, Parsons, 1909), resolve positively the vocational tasks during the life cycle (Blustein , 1997, Super et al., 1996), and adjust easily to the changes they experience in different contexts of life (Savickas, 2005; Savickas et al., 2009). Vocational literature highlights the role of support on career exploration (Blustein et al., 1995), and empirical research offers interesting results concerning the role of peers on this process (Kracke, 2002; Kenny & Bledsoe, 2005), which stressed that strong and secure relationships with friends leads to an increase in exploratory activity. In this context, we present a study (N = 76) that explores the relationship between peer attachment and career exploration. The results of linear regressions analysis revealed that peer attachment predicts the variance in some dimensions of career exploration, including: External Instrumentality, Exploration of Self, Systematic Exploration and Stress on the Exploration process. The implications of these findings are discussed in the context of vocational intervention.A exploração do self e do mundo ocupacional favorece a adaptabilidade no campo vocacional ao longo da vida (Blustein, 1997; Jordaan, 1963; Parsons, 1909; Super et al., 1996; Savickas, 2005; Savickas et al., 2009). Além disso, a literatura tem vindo a sustentar o papel do suporte e da vinculação no processo de exploração (Blustein et al., 1995), sendo de destacar os estudos que se debruçaram especificamente sobre o papel dos pares neste processo (Kracke, 2002; Kenny & Bledsoe, 2005), os quais salientam que relações fortes e seguras com os amigos conduzem a um incremento da actividade exploratória. No sistema educativo português, a conclusão do 9º ano constitui, do ponto de vista vocacional, um momento de transição e de tomada de decisão que, em certa medida, tem lugar nas relações estabelecidas com o grupo de colegas e amigos. Neste âmbito, apresenta-se um estudo (N=76) que explora a relação entre a vinculação aos amigos e doze dimensões do processo de exploração vocacional (estatuto de emprego, certeza nos resultados de exploração, instrumentalidade interna, instrumentalidade externa, importância da posição preferida, exploração do meio, exploração de si próprio, exploração sistemática, quantidade de informação, satisfação com a informação, stresse na exploração e stresse na decisão). Os resultados das regressões lineares revelam que a vinculação aos amigos explica a variância em algumas das dimensões da exploração vocacional, nomeadamente na Instrumentalidade Externa, na Exploração de Si Próprio, na Exploração Intencional e Sistemática e no Stresse relativo ao processo de exploração. As implicações destes resultados são discutidas no contexto da intervenção vocacional.peerReviewe

Para estudar o imaginário do fim do mundo, o Instituto de Literatura Comparada Margarida Losa organiza, desde 2013, uma série de seminários abertos, coincidindo com os equinócios e os solstícios. Os libretos Materiais para o Fim do Mundo recolhem alguns ensaios apresentados nesses seminários, ou textos afins.
