This is an Accepted Manuscript of an article published by Taylor & Francis in Reviews in fisheries science & aquaculture on 2016, available online: http://wwww.tandfonline.com/10.1080/23308249.2015.1112359The recently adopted model by ICCAT Standing Committee on Research and Statistics (SCRS) for the western Atlantic bluefin tuna (ABFT), Thunnus thynnus (L.) (RW D 0.0000159137 SFL3.020584, WEST), together with the model used to date (RW D 0.0000152 SFL3.0531, Ec 1) is analyzed in using a bivariant sample (SFL (cm), RW (kg)) of 698 pairs of data (K D 2.02 § 0.23 SD) in order to validate them and to establish the model that fits best the reality represented by the sample and, therefore, will have the greatest descriptive and predictive power. The result of the analysis indicates that the adopted model WEST clearly underestimates the weight of pawning ABFT being model Ec 1 that best explains the data of the sample. The result of the classical statistical analysis is confirmed by means of the quantile regression technique, selecting the quantiles 5%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 95%. Other biological and fisheries indicators also conclude that the model WEST gradually underestimates the weight of ABFT spawners (of 2 3 m) by 11 13%, does not meet the criterion that for RW = 725 kg (Wmax), SFL = 319.93 +- 11.3 cm (Lmax), and the average value of K (1.77) obtained for a wide range of size weight values, using WEST model, represents ABFT in low fattening condition.Cort, JL.; Estruch Fuster, VD. Let v be a rank m discrete valuation of k[[X1,...,Xn]] with dimension n-m. We prove that there exists an inmediate extension L of K where the valuation is monomial. Therefore we compute explicitly the residue field of the valuation

    Assessing Inflationary Pressures in Colombia

    Get PDF
The assessment of inflationary pressures in Colombia has faced two important challenges in the present decade. The first one occurred in 2006 and consisted of detecting an overheating economy in the midst of fast growing investment and increasing measured productivity. The second challenge took place in 2007-2008, when the economy was hit by a number of "supply" shocks and core inflation indicators sent diverging signals about the transmission of those shocks to macroeconomic inflation. An evaluation of the first episode shows that traditional indicators of productivity and unit labor costs were not sufficient to identify "supply" and "demand" movements. Thus, policymakers had to rely on a wider array of variables to gauge the state of the economy. Regarding the second episode, an evaluation of core inflation indicators according to standard criteria suggests that no particular measure seems to be clearly superior to the others. Hence, the assessment of inflationary pressures should not rely only on one or few core inflation indicators, since some signals could be picked by some measures and not by others. Moreover, this result suggests that the analysis of core inflation measures must be complemented with a careful examination of the persistence of the shocks and a close monitoring of their impact on inflation expectations. It is found that the latter are formed on the basis of past inflation, but that the inflation target also plays a role. In addition, inflation expectations partially move with "supply" shocks, an outcome that reflects a degree of credibility of monetary policy.Core Inflation Indicators, Inflation Expectations, Monetary Policy. Any other use of these PDF files is subject to reprint fees.A new type of perforated breakwater has been tested combining the advantages of cylindrical geometry with stepped wave energy dissipation. Thus, the new type of caisson implies a significant reduction of maximum wave forces, as well as loads transmitted to the foundation in comparison with conventional vertical breakwater and other types of perforated caissons. Starting from a brief description of the model and test results, this paper describes the development of a methodology for the estimation of maximum wave loads on this type of breakwater, in order to become a generalisable tool for predesign purposes. Construction and installation constraints of this new type of caisson are also assessed. These need to be taken into account in order to keep some advantages from the proposed design, while noting the key factors from a practical point of view.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

The training of the judoka, given its wide technical structure, its tactical dimension, its division into weight categories and the uncertainty created by the adversary, shows diverse and complex aspects to be considered and analyzed in real competitive situations. From this perspective, the objective of the present research is to identify the technical characteristics and tactics of the male (cadets) competitors at national level, in each of the weight categories, through the analysis of the most used technical actions used by the competitors of the cadet level in the Spanish National Judo Championships. The sample group was formed of 128 male cadet judokas, 121 fights were analyzed. A descriptive study was carried out with the analysis of the following variables: the different weight categories, the most used techniques to achieve the technical advantage, the minute of the fight when the advantage took place, the referee’s sanctions. From the results we can say that the judokas mainly use the te-waza techniques, with a high percentage of application of seoi-nage and kata-guruma, followed by the sutemi-waza techniques and the ashi-waza techniques. A high number of technical advantages were obtained trough referee sanctions on passivity and false attack. In terms of time, the highest number of technical advantages were observed during the first and second minute, with the predominance of the te-waza and sutemi-waza techniques, accentuating the advantage of the referee sanctions in the second [email protected]

Sometimes, after the loss of a loved one, people can develop posttraumatic symptomatology, which web-based treatments can help to reduce. We conducted a meta-analysis of web-based online treatments for reducing PTSD and other symptomatology in people who have lost a loved one. Five databases were searched between 2010 and 2022. A manual search was also performed. The meta-analysis included 13 articles which provided 14 intervention groups and 13 comparative groups. Effect sizes for PTSD, complicated grief, anxiety and depression were moderate. Our conclusion is that web-based programs for people who have lost a loved one are effective in reducing PTSD and other symptomatology, although the effects of certain treatment combinations should still be studied.

Adsorption of Phenols from Different Solvents on Graphene: Semi-Empirical Quantum Mechanical Calculations

    Get PDF
The adsorption of phenol from aqueous solutions on carbon surfaces is discussed from different theoretical points of view, such as Monte–Carlo simulations, semi-empirical calculations, density functional theory and molecular dynamics. We performed a quantitative analysis of the adsorption of aromatics in general, and phenolic compounds in particular, through semi-empirical quantum mechanical calculations using different approaches. Our results raise doubts that phenol is primarily adsorbed in flat position on the graphene layers, and consequently whether the adsorption forces are controlled by π–π dispersion interactions between the aromatic ring of phenol and the graphene layer structure. Based on the results of quantum mechanical calculations (carried out through various approaches), we conclude that neither surface oxidation nor the presence of a polarizable solvent is consistent with the claim that π–π interactions are dominant in the adsorption of phenolic compounds on graphite.Fil: Humpola, Pablo Danilo.
