Review of AIDS development
The operation and implementation of the aircraft integrated data system AIDS are described. The system is described as an engineering tool with strong emphasis on analysis of recorded information. The AIDS is primarily directed to the monitoring of parameters related to: the safety of the flight; the performance of the aircraft; the performance of the flight guidance system; and the performance and condition of the engines. The system provide short term trend analysis on a trend chart that is updated by the flight engineer on every flight that lasts more than 4 flight hours. Engine data prints are automatically presented during take-off and in the case of limit excedance, e.g., the print shows an automatically reported impending hotstarts on engine nr. 1. Cross sections of proton-induced reactions on 152Gd, 155Gd and 159Tb with emphasis on the production of selected Tb radionuclides
Cross sections are presented for various Dy, Tb and Gd radionuclides produced in the proton bombardment
of 159Tb as well as for the reactions 152Gd(p,4n)149Tb and 155Gd(p,4n)152Tb up to 66 MeV. The
experimental excitation functions are compared with theoretical predictions by means of the geometrydependent
hybrid (GDH) model as implemented in the code ALICE/ASH, as well as with values from the
TENDL-2012 library and previous literature experimental data, where available. Physical yields have been
derived for the production of some of the medically important radioterbiums, namely 149Tb (radionuclide
therapy), 152Tb (PET) and 155Tb (SPECT). The indirect production of high-purity 155Tb via the decay of
its precursor 155Dy is reported. The possibility of a large-scale production facility based on a commercial
70 MeV cyclotron is also discussed
Sensory Evaluation and Consumers’ Willingness to Pay for Quality Protein Maize (QPM) using Experimental Auctions in Rural Tanzania
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the sensory characteristics and consumer acceptability of quality protein maize (QPM) in rural Tanzania. Due to the malnutrition problem facing consumers in developing countries, QPM which has almost double the amount of tryptophan and lysine, has been identified as a possible solution to this problem. To know whether consumers will accept QPM, it is vital that its sensory attributes and consumer acceptance tests are carried out. Sensory characteristics were determined using home use testing and central location methods by use of stiff porridge. Three districts were visited and 120 consumers participated in home use testing, whereas 30 respondents participated in the central location testing. At the central location, triangle test was also undertaken to find out if a difference exists between QPM and conventional maize. Additionally, acceptability of QPM was tested using BDM method. Consumer characteristics of QPM were highly appreciated for stiff porridge, a major maize product in East Africa. This was observed both in home use and sensory location testing. Likewise, consumers were willing to pay more for QPM than for conventional maize in all evaluation criteria used. Triangle test showed a significant difference between QPM and conventional maize. Sensory evaluation however needs to be repeated with other QPM varieties to ensure that it is not only a specific QPM variety that has favourable consumer characteristicsQPM, consumer acceptability, sensory evaluation, malnutrition, Tanzania, Crop Production/Industries, Demand and Price Analysis,
Geometry and the onset of rigidity in a disordered network
Disordered spring networks that are undercoordinated may abruptly rigidify
when sufficient strain is applied. Since the deformation in response to applied
strain does not change the generic quantifiers of network architecture - the
number of nodes and the number of bonds between them - this rigidity transition
must have a geometric origin. Naive, degree-of-freedom based mechanical
analyses such as the Maxwell-Calladine count or the pebble game algorithm
overlook such geometric rigidity transitions and offer no means of predicting
or characterizing them. We apply tools that were developed for the topological
analysis of zero modes and states of self-stress on regular lattices to
two-dimensional random spring networks, and demonstrate that the onset of
rigidity, at a finite simple shear strain , coincides with the
appearance of a single state of self stress, accompanied by a single floppy
mode. The process conserves the topologically invariant difference between the
number of zero modes and the number of states of self stress, but imparts a
finite shear modulus to the spring network. Beyond the critical shear, we
confirm previously reported critical scaling of the modulus. In the
sub-critical regime, a singular value decomposition of the network's
compatibility matrix foreshadows the onset of rigidity by way of a continuously
vanishing singular value corresponding to nascent state of self stress.Comment: 6 pages, 6 figue
SS 433: The wiggle of the wind
The Balmer H alpha emission line in the stationary spectrum of SS 433 has a
component originating in the wind above the accretion disk. The Doppler motion
of this line is a blurred representation of the motion of the compact object
accreting. I show how this may be understood in terms of emission lasting over

Bi-Directional Relativistic Jets of the Radio Galaxy 1946+708: Constraints on the Hubble Constant
We present measurements of bi-directional motions in the jets of the radio
galaxy 1946+708 at z=0.101. This is a Compact Symmetric Object with striking
S-symmetry. Sensitive 15 GHz observations reveal a compact component at the
center of symmetry with a strongly inverted spectrum, that we identify as the
core. From five 4.9 GHz observations spread over 4 years we have determined the
velocities of four compact jet components. If simple kinematic models can be
applied then the inclination of the source and the bulk jet velocity can be
directly determined for any assumed value of the Hubble constant. Conversely,
the measurements already place constraints on the Hubble constant, and we show
how further observations of 1946+708 can yield an increasingly accurate

A Multi-Epoch VLBI Survey of the Kinematics of CJF Sources; Part I: Model-Fit Parameters and Maps
Context: This is the first of a series of papers presenting VLBI observations
of the 293 Caltech-Jodrell Bank Flat-Spectrum (hereafter CJF) sources and their
analysis. Aims: One of the major goals of the CJF is to make a statistical
study of the apparent velocities of the sources. Methods: We have conducted
global VLBI and VLBA observations at 5 GHz since 1990, accumulating thirteen
separate observing campaigns. Results: We present here an overview of the
observations, give details of the data reduction and present the source
parameters resulting from a model-fitting procedure. For every source at every
observing epoch, an image is shown, built up by restoring the model-fitted
components, convolved with the clean beam, into the residual image, which was
made by Fourier transforming the visibility data after first subtracting the
model-fitted components in the uv-plane. Overplotted we show symbols to
represent the model components. Conclusions: We have produced VLBI images of
all but 5 of the 293 sources in the complete CJF sample at several epochs and
