This work was conducted in the city of Bragança in order to study the effect of melatonin, and progestagenic treatments associated to eCG in synchronization / induction of estrus, and breeding improvements triggered by them. Regarding progestagens were used intravaginal sponges impregnated in fluorogesterone acetate (FGA), were compared the results obtained by diferent administration timing of eCG, 24 h before or at the time of sponge removal.
In this experiment, were used 94 ewes Churra Galega Bragançana. In 25 of them were placed subcutaneous implants of melatonin (18mg) (Melatonin group). Forty-five days later, these sheep were treated with vaginal sponges impregnated with 20 mg of FGA (fluorogesterone acetate). This treatment was applied also to the other 69 sheep (control group). The progestagen treatment lasted 12 days. Twenty-four hours before the removal of vaginal sponges, to 32 control sheep were administered 500 IU eCG (Equine Chorionic Gonadotropin) (Group days -1). When the removal of vaginal sponges, melatonin to sheep (n = 25) and the remaining control sheep (n = 37) were also injected with 500 IU eCG (Group day 0). At that time were introduced in five sheep flock bearing harnesses markers. All sheep were subjected to pregnancy diagnosis by ultrasonography, 41 days after the introduction of rams. After delivery, we calculated the apparent fertility, fecundity and prolificacy rates.
At the end it was concluded that melatonin was not demonstrated statistically significant (P> 0.05) as synchronization / induction of oestrus, ovulation and pregnancy in the melatonin group (76.0%, 100%, 48.0%), respectively, compared to the control group (83.8%, 97.3%, 45.9%). However, the time of eCG administration demonstrated significant improvement in rates of ewes in heat and pregnant for the animals administered with eCG at the time of removal of intravaginal sponges (83.8%, 45.9%), respectively, against (71.9%, 31.3%) for the sheep that received progestagen treatment 24h before. Ovulation rates were not affected by the time of administration of eCG

Estado Confusional Agudo após Corticoterapia Inalada
Background: The connection between corticotherapy and neuropsychiatric symptoms is
widely known, being one of the first questions
we need to assess when presenting with first
episode psychiatric symptoms or confusional
state.
Aims: To date, data on cases related to inhaled
corticotherapy and neuropsychiatric effects is
scarce. In this paper we describe a rare case in
a young woman.
Methods: The clinical case presented led us
to try to understand the data published on the
subject in order to discuss it in greater length.
Results and Conclusions: We present and
discuss a 27-year-old patient’s case, with no
previous psychiatric disease, who was admitted to our Psychiatric ward after the onset of
severe acute behavioural disturbance characterized by aggressiveness, visual and auditory
hallucinatory activity, misidentification and
altered conscience status. It was later found
that seven days earlier she had been prescribed
inhaled corticotherapy for a minor respiratory
infection. A few days after corticotherapy withdrawal, the clinical symptoms improved significantly.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Informality as an Important Feature of Luanda’s Urban Process. A Closer Look at Bairro Prenda
Observing Luanda, one usually distinguishes formal areas from informal settlements, the musseques. To understand its urban process, however, it is necessary to see beyond
this dichotomy. Without any previous city plan, Luanda grew in a spontaneous way, mostly due to micro-scale social and economic dynamics. The attempts to formalize some areas usually resulted in social and economic segregation, as poor people from informal areas near the centre are expropriated and pushed towards the periphery. Our focus is on Bairro Prenda, as a closer approach to the city’s urban process. Evolving from farmland to musseque, later to a modernist neighbourhood and from then to now: a melting pot of formal and informal processes, in which informality illustrates how the city survived forty years of war (colonial 1961-1974; civil 1975-2002). It is the aim of this paper to question whether this urban informality should be fought or, on the contrary, is an integrating part of Luanda’s character and, as such, should be taken into account in its relationship with the world
Stakeholder management in practice, a critical review
The purpose of this Work Paper (WP) is to provide, based on real cases, a critical reflection on the applicability of three stakeholder management models. The three models developed by Mitchell (1997), Tulder (2003) and Preble (2005), while showing some similarities, provide different frameworks to support managers in the process of multi-stakeholder dialogue. The WP ends with recommendations for organizations that intend to use these models in their specific stakeholder management context
Chemical mixture in the crop production chain: a focus on mycotoxins
Several crops can be infested by filamentous fungi, both in the field and during storage. Some of these fungi, under appropriate conditions, are capable of producing a wide range of secondary metabolites mycotoxins, which may be produced in crops in the field, be accumulated during storage, and be resilient during food processing and persist in the final food product. Contamination of food products with fungi is frequent, and will impact food security and food safety.
Cereals are the main contributors to mycotoxins exposure and maize is the principal staple food/feed crop exposed to mycotoxins, where the co-occurrence of multiple mycotoxins and their metabolites has been well documented. In this presentation maize will be used as a case study to illustrate the occurrence of chemical hazard mixtures in the crop production chain (with a focus on mycotoxins).
The infection cycle, ecology, and plant-pathogen interactions of Aspergillus and Fusarium species in maize, determines a succession of species in maize, yielding a potential contaminated crop with fumonisins by some Fusarium species (e.g., F. verticillillioides, F. proliferatum), deoxynivalenol by other Fusarium species (e.g., F. graminearum), and aflatoxins by Aspergillus species (e.g., Aspergillus flavus), just to mention the most frequent ones. In addition, the plant pathogen interaction, as well as food processing after storage, may transform (or modify) these mycotoxins into to compounds that remain toxic but may escape official control.
This presentation will give insights on the maize chain to illustrate the possible occurrence of multiple chemical hazards in a single crop.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Lusophony as an aesthetic experience: considerations on the existence of a Lusophone canon
On the basis of a broader concept of aesthetics coinciding with the pantheistic sense Georg Simmel ascribes it, this essay discusses the Portuguese presence in the tropics and the forming, during the mercantilist period, of what can be regarded as the core of the Lusophone world: the Brazilian Northeast, the archipelago of Cape Verde and the cities of Luanda and Benguela and their hinterlands. In highlighting the cultural peculiarities of each of those regions, the emergent modernist movements eventually revealed their anthropological and aesthetic closeness, thus transforming that historical experience into a significant referent to evoke and legitimize Lusophony. Thereafter, I proceed to analyse the public politics
to be implemented so as to strengthen the Lusophone condition, as well as the existence of a Lusophone canon
