Southwest bronze age culture in Lisbon city : the encosta de Sant’Ana vessel
This article presents the study of a ceramic vessel of the “Bronze do Sudoeste” culture (Southwest Bronze Age Culture) recovered during archaeological excavations in a settlement in Lisbon’s historical center. This vessel is related with several other occurrences from burials and/or ritual depositions in Southern Estremadura region during the first half of the 2nd millennium BC. The most ancient of these productions coexist with the last beaker vessels both in this region as in Southwest Portugal, according to the available radiocarbon data
An expert-based assessment of global threats and conservation measures for spiders
Despite the prominent role of spiders in most ecosystems, these invertebrates are still notably endangered as well as underrepresented in current conservation efforts. We sent a survey to spider experts and enthusiasts belonging to arachnological societies across the globe to determine the general consensus on globally relevant threats to spiders as well as the most relevant conservation measures. We report that respondents found agriculture, livestock farming & forestry, climate change, urbanisation and pollution (including pesticides) to be the most relevant threats to spider species worldwide. Likewise, land protection and education & awareness were considered the most relevant conservation measures to avoid species declines and extinctions. Although these results tend to be consistent across the biogeographic regions of expertise of respondents, there was significant variation between regions. We discuss the support and justification for the patterns found, their regional variations, and the relevance of threats and conservation measures. This is the first global roadmap for spider species conservation action and research. In general, land should be set aside for species protection, agroforestry practices should be carefully considered, climate change should be mitigated, and the general public should be made more aware of spiders, their importance and the threats they face.Peer reviewe
Current GBIF occurrence data demonstrates both promise and limitations for potential red listing of spiders
Conservation assessments of hyperdiverse groups of organisms are often challenging and limited by the availability of occurrence data needed to calculate assessment metrics such as extent of occurrence (EOO). Spiders represent one such diverse group and have historically been assessed using primary literature with retrospective georeferencing. Here we demonstrate the differences in estimations of EOO and hypothetical IUCN Red List classifications for two extensive spider datasets comprising 479 species in total. The EOO were estimated and compared using literature-based assessments, Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF)-based assessments and combined data assessments. We found that although few changes to hypothetical IUCN Red List classifications occurred with the addition of GBIF data, some species (3.3%) which could previously not be classified could now be assessed with the addition of GBIF data. In addition, the hypothetical classification changed for others (1.5%). On the other hand, GBIF data alone did not provide enough data for 88.7% of species. These results demonstrate the potential of GBIF data to serve as an additional source of information for conservation assessments, complementing literature data, but not particularly useful on its own as it stands right now for spiders.Peer reviewe
“Isfahan”, do disco “Lush Life: The Music of Billy Strayhorn” (1992); “Miles Ahead”, do
disco “So Near, So Far (Musings for Miles)” (1993); “No More Blues (Chega de
Saudade)”, do disco “Double Rainbow: The Music Of Antonio Carlos Jobim” (1995);
“Without a Song”, do disco “Big Band” (1996) e o “Summertime”, do disco “Porgy &
Bess” (1997).
prevalências rítmicas; JOE HENDERSON: Aspects of improvisation in works recorded for Verve Records
Abstract:
Joe Henderson (1937-2001), tenor saxophonist and composer, is considered one of the
most important figures in Jazz history, particularly among tenor saxophonists. He created a
very unique style different from other saxophonists and his approach to the instrument is
still reflected in today’s contemporary Jazz community. The study of Joe Henderson’s
music has been growing and he has been given due importance in schools, making him
increasingly recognized. However, there are few studies on his compositional,
interpretation and improvisation approach. This dissertation intends to give a more detailed
view of the resources used by Joe Henderson in his solos and, in particular, in the 90s
decade, when he recorded for Verve Records.
With the aim of approaching the different styles of Jazz that Joe Henderson explored in
that decade, improvisations from each of the albums recorded in that decade were selected:
“Isfahan”, from the album “Lush Life: The Music of Billy Strayhorn” (1992); “Miles
Ahead”, from the album “So Near, So Far (Musings for Miles)” (1993); “No More Blues
(Chega de Saudade)”, from the album “Double Rainbow: The Music Of Antonio Carlos
Jobim” (1995); “Without a Song”, from the album “Big Band” (1996) and “Summertime”,
from the album “Porgy & Bess” (1997).
Some of these improvisations are transcribed and analysed, in order to separately identify
the fundamental elements of the music: rhythm, harmony and melody. Specifically, it is
intended to characterize Joe Henderson's approach to tonal centre, to the harmonic vision
(vertical and/or horizontal), to formulas or preconceived patterns and to rhythmic
prevalence

Orbitostriatal encoding of reward delayed gratification and impulsivity in chronic pain
Central robust network functional rearrangement is a characteristic of several neurological conditions, including chronic pain. Preclinical and clinical studies have shown the importance of pain-induced dysfunction in both orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) and nucleus accumbens (NAc) brain regions for the emergence of cognitive deficits. Outcome information processing recruits the orbitostriatal circuitry, a pivotal pathway regarding contextdependent reward value encoding. The current literature reveals the existence of structural and functional changes in the orbitostriatal crosstalk in chronic pain conditions, which have emerged as a possible underlying cause for reward and time discrimination impairments observed in individuals affected by such disturbances. However, more comprehensive investigations are needed to elucidate the underlying disturbances that underpin disease development. In this review article, we aim to provide a comprehensive view of the orbitostriatal mechanisms underlying time-reward dependent behaviors, and integrate previous findings on local and network malplasticity under the framework of the chronic pain sphere
DERMATOSE FEBRIL – UM DIAGNÓSTICO A NÃO ESQUECER
A 46 year-old male patient with HIV-1/HCV coinfection and liver cirrhosis admitted with fever, prostration, and asthenia. On physical examination, scarce necrotic pustules on an erythematous base on the fingers and toes with swelling, pain and functional limitation of the left tibiotarsal joint were noted. Laboratory revealed only slight elevation of liver enzymology and CRP. We admitted the diagnostic hypotheses of endocarditis, meningococcemia or gonococcemia. After isolation of Neisseria gonorrhoeae from a blood culture, intravenous ceftriaxone was started with clinical improvement. Pharyngeal swab PCR positivity for N. gonorrhoeae confirmed the diagnosis of pharyngeal origin disseminated gonococcemia. Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted infection caused by Gram-negative diplococcus Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Disseminated gonococcemia in the form of the classical "arthritis-dermatitis" syndrome accompanies only 1-2% of mucosal infections. Pharyngeal gonorrhea is often asymptomatic in men and women, probably constituting an important reservoir of the agent. The rise in gonorrhea incidence makes this case very pertinent in any dermatologist’s clinical practice today.
