Detection of Non-Technical Losses in Smart Distribution Networks: a Review

    Get PDF
With the advent of smart grids, distribution utilities have initiated a large deployment of smart meters on the premises of the consumers. The enormous amount of data obtained from the consumers and communicated to the utility give new perspectives and possibilities for various analytics-based applications. In this paper the current smart metering-based energy-theft detection schemes are reviewed and discussed according to two main distinctive categories: A) system statebased, and B) arti cial intelligence-based.Comisión Europea FP7-PEOPLE-2013-IT

Projective Market Model Approach to AHP Decision-Making

In this paper we describe market in projective geometry language and give definition of a matrix of market rate, which is related to the matrix rate of return and the matrix of judgements in the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP). We use these observations to extend the AHP model to projective geometry formalism and generalise it to intransitive case. We give financial interpretations of such generalised model and propose its simplification. The unification of the AHP model and projective aspect of portfolio theory suggests a wide spectrum of new applications such extended model.Comment: APFA 6 - Applications of Physics in Financial Analysis 6th International Conference, 4-7 July 2007, Lisbon, Portuga

Comparison of methods for H*(10) calculation from measured LaBr3(Ce) detector spectra

    Get PDF
The Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC) and the Centro de Investigaciones Energéticas, Medioambientales y Tecnológicas (CIEMAT) have evaluated methods based on stripping, conversion coefficients and Maximum Likelihood Estimation using Expectation Maximization (ML-EM) in calculating the H*(10) rates from photon pulse-height spectra acquired with a spectrometric LaBr3(Ce)(1.5¿ × 1.5¿) detector. There is a good agreement between results of the different H*(10) rate calculation methods using the spectra measured at the UPC secondary standard calibration laboratory in Barcelona. From the outdoor study at ESMERALDA station in Madrid, it can be concluded that the analysed methods provide results quite similar to those obtained with the reference RSS ionization chamber. In addition, the spectrometric detectors can also facilitate radionuclide identification.Postprint (author's final draft

In the context of Catalan public services, what constitutes the figure of translator and interpreter lacks a clear definition. This situation is directly linked to the lack of specialized training, as well as the absence of regulations governing this profession. Universities, and more specifically translation and interpreting training departments, have already made it clear that responding to these needs is a matter of some urgency. However, the offer of courses on translating and interpreting in the public services within current degree programs is still quite meager. Our objectives in this article are twofold. First, to offer a review of the present situation regarding translation and interpreting in public services in Catalonia, both from the professional perspective as well as from applied research. Second, to define the translator and interpreter profile in the Catalan public services using the results obtained from an empirical study on this emerging professional profile

Automated repair of process models with non-local constraints using state-based region theory

    Get PDF
State-of-the-art process discovery methods construct free-choice process models from event logs. Consequently, the constructed models do not take into account indirect dependencies between events. Whenever the input behaviour is not free-choice, these methods fail to provide a precise model. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for enhancing free-choice process models by adding non-free-choice constructs discovered a-posteriori via region-based techniques. This allows us to benefit from the performance of existing process discovery methods and the accuracy of the employed fundamental synthesis techniques. We prove that the proposed approach preserves fitness with respect to the event log while improving the precision when indirect dependencies exist. The approach has been implemented and tested on both synthetic and real-life datasets. The results show its effectiveness in repairing models discovered from event logs. This work was partly supported by the Australian Research Council Discovery Project DP180102839. Multiwavelength study of the starburst galaxy NGC7714. I: Ultraviolet-Optical spectroscopy

We have studied the physical conditions in the central 300 pc of the proto-typical starburst galaxy NGC 7714. Our analysis is based on ultraviolet spectroscopy with the HST+GHRS and ground-based optical observations. The data are interpreted using evolutionary models optimized for young starburst regions. The massive stellar population is derived in a self-consistent way using the continuum and stellar absorption lines in the ultraviolet and the nebular emission line optical spectrum. The central starburst has an age of about 4.5 Myr, with little evidence for an age spread. Wolf-Rayet features at the ultraviolet indicates a stellar population of \sim 2000 Wolf-Rayet stars. The overall properties of the newly formed stars are quite similar to those derived, e.g., in 30 Doradus. A standard Salpeter IMF is consistent with all observational constraints. We find evidence for spatial structure within the central 300 pc sampled. Therefore it is unlikely that the nucleus of NGC 7714 hosts a single star cluster exceeding the properties of other known clusters. Contrary to previous suggestions, we find no evidence for a nuclear supernova rate that would significantly exceed the total disk-integrated rate. About one supernova event per century is predicted.Comment: 19 pages, 9 figures in a tar file. Accepted for publication in ApJ, 1999, March, issue 51

Hospital territorial integration in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan era: if not now, when?

    Get PDF
Integrating hospital and territorial services is essential, particularly for elderly patients, as they are at risk of yearly hospitalizations for multimorbidity, frailty, and complex diagnostic procedures. The emergency room organization aims to focus mainly on acute time-dependent diseases and cannot meet the needs of older patients. The authors present the preliminary results of an integration protocol between the hospital’s services and those of the territorial elderly home care unit in Avellino, Italy
