    TAP investigations of the CO2 reforming of CH4 over Pt/ZrO2

    The adsorption and reaction characteristics of methane, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen have been investigated over a ZrO2support and a Pt/ZrO2catalyst by using a temporal analysis of products reactor system. It was observed that on Pt/ZrO2both methane and carbon dioxide dissociate independently of one another. The dissociation of carbon dioxide acts as an oxygen supplier, while the decomposition products of methane scavenge the oxygen from the catalyst. When an abundance of oxygen is present, pulsing of methane leads to the production of carbon dioxide. It is concluded that both the selectivity with which methane produces carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide and the carbon dioxide conversion is determined by the same reaction: COads+Oads CO2,ads

    Modelling Livestock Component in FSSIM

    This document summarises the development of a ruminant livestock component for the Farm System Simulator (FSSIM). This includes treatments of energy and protein transactions in ruminant livestock that have been used as a basis for the biophysical simulations that will generate the input production parameters for FSSIM. The treatments are derived principally from the “French” feed evaluation and rationing system for protein and energy. Currently, we have constructed routines that are capable of simulating input-output relationships for energy and protein in the following representative systems; dairy cattle; suckler cows; growing and finishing cattle; sheep and goats. The calculations of energy and protein requirements for these classes of livestock are described in detail in this documen

    Transcriptomic and proteomic profiling of maize embryos exposed to camptothecin

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Camptothecin is a plant alkaloid that specifically binds topoisomerase I, inhibiting its activity and inducing double stranded breaks in DNA, activating the cell responses to DNA damage and, in response to severe treatments, triggering cell death.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Comparative transcriptomic and proteomic analyses of maize embryos that had been exposed to camptothecin were conducted. Under the conditions used in this study, camptothecin did not induce extensive degradation in the genomic DNA but induced the transcription of genes involved in DNA repair and repressed genes involved in cell division. Camptothecin also affected the accumulation of several proteins involved in the stress response and induced the activity of certain calcium-dependent nucleases. We also detected changes in the expression and accumulation of different genes and proteins involved in post-translational regulatory processes.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>This study identified several genes and proteins that participate in DNA damage responses in plants. Some of them may be involved in general responses to stress, but others are candidate genes for specific involvement in DNA repair. Our results open a number of new avenues for researching and improving plant resistance to DNA injury.</p
