The present study aims to underline the relationships that exist between the Italian and the Cuban literature. Starting from the analysis of the general boom in Latin American literature of the '60s, a phenomenon that has affected Europe in general, be established as the Cuban experience has played a key role within the Italian publishing market for the particular work cultural mediation of Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, Alba de Céspedes and Italo Calvino. Through the study of the issues concerning the reception was stressed the role of cultural stereotypes that have influenced the reading of the first works translated and the factors that led to the delineation of a literary canon South American and Cuban in particular. The analysis of the general trends of the translations it has highlighted the limits in terms of both the poetry that the Cuban narrative. The last section of the study deals with the reception by the works of Italian intellectuals Cuban focusing on the recall of the masterpiece by José Lezama Lima in Petrolio by PasoliniEl presente estudio pretende arrojar luz sobre las relaciones que existen entre la literatura italiana y la de Cuba. La Habana Negra: le minoranze nella narrativa di Padura Fuentes

    Get PDF
The narrative of Padura Fuentes outlines the 'other' side of La Habana, away from immaculate beaches and fine cigars. Master of Cuban detective stories, Padura explores dark corners of the city, representing the violence which is consumed in the suburban neighborhoods but not only: the writer offers a picture of the city unspoken, that of minorities. From Máscaras to La cola de la serpiente, the novels of Padura can be read as enigmas, but also as sociological material: the author uses the detection to present the city of Havana in all its shapes, even those which are forced to edges

Severe invasive methicillin-resistant S. aureus (USA300 clone) infection in an Italian adolescent

    Get PDF
This report describes an uncommon presentation of invasive community-acquired methicillin-resistant S. aureus (CA-MRSA) infection in an immunocompetent adolescent without any other risk factor, characterized by septicaemia, meningitis, necrotising pneumonia and deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Successful treatment was performed with linezolid, rifampicin and low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH). MRSA molecular typing revealed the presence of Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL) gene, and a genetic background identical to USA300 clone, an emerging aggressive CA-MRSA strain in USA and Europe

    granulocyte transfusions a critical reappraisal

    Get PDF
Granulocyte transfusions (GTs) are seldom used as a life-saving therapy for neutropenic patients with severe infections. Despite compelling evidence of GT efficacy in retrospective and prospective case series, no study has been successful in demonstrating a definite advantage for recipients in controlled clinical trials. This review critically revises some aspects emerging from past experience that might have weakened the evidence of GT benefits. Some specific issues relevant to the efficacy of this therapeutic approach, such as primary infection, delivered doses and schedules, and immunologic effects of GTs, are discussed. Importantly, the awareness of biologic effects accompanying the transfusion of neutrophils might support their use at standardized doses and may definitely convey significant advantages to the recipient patients

A photoluminescence study of the changes induced in the zinc white pigment by formation of zinc complexes

    Get PDF
It is known that oil paintings containing zinc white are subject to rapid degradation. This is caused by the interaction between the active groups of binder and the metal ions of the pigment, which gives rise to the formation of new zinc complexes (metal soaps). Ongoing studies on zinc white paints have been limited to the chemical mechanisms that lead to the formation of zinc complexes. On the contrary, little is known of the photo-physical changes induced in the zinc oxide crystal structure following this interaction. Time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy has been applied to follow modifications in the luminescent zinc white pigment when mixed with binder. Significant changes in trap state photoluminescence emissions have been detected: the enhancement of a blue emission combined with a change of the decay kinetic of the well-known green emission. Complementary data from molecular analysis of paints using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirms the formation of zinc carboxylates and corroborates the mechanism for zinc complexes formation. We support the hypothesis that zinc ions migrate into binder creating novel vacancies, affecting the photoluminescence intensity and lifetime properties of zinc oxide. Here, we further demonstrate the advantages of a time-resolved photoluminescence approach for studying defects in semiconductor pigments

La legge dell’armonia nella composizione degli elementi, traimmanenza e trascendenza Platone interprete di Eraclito

Heraclitus’ equilibrium is a conflictual one, it is based on the recognition that there is a wisdom within the elements; Plato’s equilibrium is proportional and finds in the tension towards the transcendet law the composition of a second nature, produced by a technique aiming to recompose disorder once it has occurred. However, disorder is possible only starting from an original and invisible order that has to be brought to light, following the maieutic, or imposed by the philosopher king or by the law of the State. In this article I argue how two types of law emerge in the exchange that Plato carries out with Heraclitus: a law which is immanent to the elements themselves, but unstable and prone to destruction, and a transcendent law that functions as an orientation for divine and human actions. This transcendent law is configured, in turn, in two modalities: as a law of invisible harmony that must be followed, and as a positive law that must be imposed due to the instability of the elements which are unable to maintain a given form
