Quantum effects on Higgs-strahlung events at Linear Colliders within the general 2HDM
The associated production of neutral Higgs bosons with the Z gauge boson is
investigated in the context of the future linear colliders, such as the ILC and
CLIC, within the general two-Higgs-doublet model (2HDM). We compute the
corresponding production cross-sections at one-loop, in full consistency with
the available theoretical and phenomenological constraints. We find that the
wave-function renormalization corrections to the external Higgs fields are the
dominant source of the quantum effects, which turn out to be large and
negative, and located predominantly in the region around \tan\beta=1 and
moderate values of the parameter \lambda_5 (being \lambda_5 < 0). This behavior
can be ultimately traced back to the enhancement potential of the triple Higgs
boson self-couplings, a trademark feature of the 2HDM with no counterpart in
the Higgs sector of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. The predicted
Higgs-strahlung rates comfortably reach a few tens of femtobarn, which means
barely 10^3 - 10^4 events per 500 inverse femtobarn of integrated luminosity.
Due to their great complementarity, we argue that the combined analysis of the
Higgs-strahlung events and the previously computed one-loop Higgs-pair
production processes could be instrumental to probe the structure of the Higgs
sector at future linac facilities.Comment: LaTeX, 16 pages, 9 Figures, 2 Tables. Extended discussion, references

Non-compaction of the ventricular myocardium: a cardiomyopathy in search of a pathoanatomical definition
Ventricular non-compaction is a rare cardiomyopathy characterized by numerous, excessively prominent ventricular trabeculations and deep intertrabecular recesses communicating with the ventricular cavity. The lesion is postulated to result from an intrauterine developmental arrest that stops compaction of the myocardial fiber meshwork. This cardiomyopathy affects the left ventricle, with or without concomitant right ventricular involvement. The disease is now seen with increasing frequency and it is clinically diagnosed by imaging techniques such as echocardiography or cardiac magnetic resonance. Current diagnostic criteria are considered too sensitive, particularly in black individuals. Therefore, this condition has generated considerable controversy and demands a new definition. Non-compaction cardiomyopathy shows variability of hereditary patterns, genetic heterogeneity, diversity in associated phenotypes and a wide spectrum of clinical presentation and pathophysiological findings. Non-compaction can be simply a variant of normal maturation of the ventricular myocardium with only the most severe forms producing a distinct clinical-pathological entity. Ventricular noncompaction most probably is a secondary consequence of an underlying molecular derangement produced by a pathogenetic mutation. It is likely that surgical pathologists will find this entity more frequently due to involvement in transplantation teams
Subgemmal neurogenous plaques of the tongue: a systematic autopsy study
Subgemmal neurogenous plaque (SNP) is a subepithelial nerve plexus associated with taste buds, occasionally observed in tongue biopsies. There is no evaluation of the prevalence of this structure in the general population. We present a systematic study of samples obtained at random from the dorsal portion of the oral tongue in 205 consecutive complete autopsies. Each sample was about 15 mm long and 10 mm thick. Four hundred fifty-eight samples were routinely obtained and an average of 2.23±0.88 samples per case (range 1-7) was collected. The total number of SNPs observed was 556, with a mean of 2.71±2.68 per case (range 0-16). This means that for every 15 linear mm of the oral tongue, approximately 2.7 SNPs can be present. SNPs display several ages, and they do not show sex differences. The mean size of these structures was 2.1±0.94 mm (range 0.6-3.6 mm). SNP is characterized by its unique neural, zonal pattern with a superficial neurofibroma-like area and a deeper neuroma-like area. Special features of the SNPs include the presence of taste buds (49.1%), ganglion cells (26.3%), dilated thin-walled vessels (11.3%), salivary gland excretory ducts emptying on the surface of the papillae (6.1%), moderate-severe inflammatory infiltrate (6.8%), presence of lymphoid tissue in the vicinity (7.0%), and hyperplasia of the epithelial cover with pseudoepitheliomatous appearance (7.0%). The differential diagnoses include schwannoma, neurofibroma, ganglioneuroma, traumatic neuroma, mucosal neuroma, and squamous cell carcinoma. SNPs are small, normal structures that may undergo hyperplasia and are usually seen incidentally
a análisis estadístico uni y multivariante.
Objectives: To determine the expression of the c-erb-B2, p53,
bcl-2, Ki67 and CD44varV6 proteins, and to establish their
prognostic value in epidermoid carcinoma of the lip.
Study design: Immunohistochemical study of the c-erb-B2,
p53, bcl-2, Ki67 and CD44varV6 proteins in 79 epidermoid
carcinomas of the lip, diagnosed and treated over a period of 20
years. The data obtained were subjected to uni- and multi-variate
statistical analyses.
Results: Immunostaining was positive in 75% of cases for c-erb-
B2 protein, in 70.6% for p53 protein, in 3.8% for bcl-2 protein
and in 89.9% for adhesion molecule CD44varV6. Ki67 protein
expression varied between a minimum of 0% and a maximum of
6.29%. Most immunohistochemical factors analyzed presented
no prognostic value for epidermoid carcinoma of the lip. Only
those patients affected by this type of tumor that expressed the
adhesion molecule CD44varV6 were significantly associated
with a greater survival calculated by means of Kaplan-Meier
analysis.
Conclusions: The immunohistochemical techniques analyzed
for the anatomicopathological study of epidermoid carcinoma
of the lip should not routinely be used due to their high cost and
low utility in daily clinical practice
Histiocytoid cardiomyopathy and ventricular noncompaction presenting as sudden death in an adult male
Histiocytoid/oncocytic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a rare, distinctive arrhythmogenic disorder that presents as arrhythmia or sudden death in infants and children. Ventricular noncompaction (VNC) is a rare cardiomyopathy characterized by a thickened endocardial layer of noncompacted myocardium and a thin epicardial layer of compacted myocardium. Only six cases of the association of both cardiomyopathies have been reported previously in the literature. All these cases were in children. To the best of our knowledge, a case of HCM has not been described in the adult. We report the case of a 45-year-old man with an increased heart weight and involvement of both ventricles by HCM and VNC cardiomyopathy. Besides, multiple foci of myocardial disorganization were detected. He died suddenly while hiking. The association of both processes HCM and VNC was an unexpected finding at autopsy. The death was linked to functional abnormalities of the cardiac histiocytoid cells, and it was favored by a state of abnormal development of the heart
This Master’s Thesis aims to develop a methodology to build a reduced order model (ROM) from numerical weather prediction simulations (NWP) to obtain equivalent results to those given by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technics. The ROM is built by fitting supervised learning regressor models to CFD products from NWP results. The proposed ROM is used over a complex terrain located in the Pyrenees mountains of the Aragon (Spain) region. The obtained results capture fairly well the general trend of the test data. The percentile of absolute errors in the horizontal components of the wind is ~[m/s] while for the vertical one is ~[m/s].These results seem to be strongly affected by altitude. The numerical weather predictions simulations take around ~min while CFD require ~min.Once the ROM is trained, using it is nearly instantaneous so the computational advantage of using this methodology is huge.<br /
Optimization of the air cargo supply chain.
Purpose: This paper aims to evaluate and optimize the various operations within the air cargo chain. It pursues to improve the efficiency of the air cargo supply chain and to provide more information to the decision-makers to optimize their fields.
Design/methodology/approach: The method used is a process simulation modelling software, WITNESS, which provides information to the decision-makers about the most relevant parameters subject to optimization. The input for the simulation is obtained from a qualitative analysis of the air cargo supply chain with the involved agents and from a study of the external trade by air mode, given that their behaviour depend on the location. The case study is focused on a particular location, the Case of Zaragoza Airport (Spain).
Findings: This paper demonstrates that efficiency of the air cargo supply chain can increase by leveraging several parameters such as bottlenecks, resources or warehouses.
Originality/value: It explores the use of a simulation modeling software originally intended for manufacturing processes and extended to support decision making processes in the area of air cargo
We report the case of a 60-year-old man who was receiving immunosuppressive
therapy for a bilateral lung transplant and presented with a crusted, violaceous plaque on the
left hand. Based on histopathology and microbiological culture the patient was diagnosed with
infection by Alternaria species. Treatment with itraconazole led to complete resolution of the
skin lesion. Forty months later he developed four reddish, nodular, skin lesions on the left leg.
Analysis of a biopsy from one of these lesions using histopathologic and molecular techniques
identified a mold that shared 98% homology with a strain of Alternaria triticina. Alternaria
species belong to a group of dematiaceous fungi that cause opportunistic infections in humans.
The incidence of these infections is increasing, mainly in transplant centers. To the best of our
knowledge, this is the first reported case of a human infection caused by A. triticinaPresentamos el caso de un hombre de 60 años en tratamiento inmunosupresor
presente caso es el primero en el que A. triticina es causante de una infección humanaAcknowledgement: We thank Manuel Cuenca Estrella and Emilia Mellado of the Instituto Nacional de Salud Carlos III in Madrid for confirmation of the identity of the fungus
