Magnetic behavior of lamellar mnps3 and cdps3 composites with a paramagnetic manganese(iii) macrocyclic guest
Indexación: ScieloSix new composites derived from the intercalation of the MPS3 phases (M = MnII, CdIII) with the macrocyclic manganese(III) complex [MnL(H2O)2].NO3(H2O) (LH2 = Schiff base macrocyclic ligand derived from the condensation of 2-hydroxy-5-methy1-1,3-benzene-dicarbaldehyde and 1,2-diamine-benzene) were obtained by two different synthetic procedures: a conventional and a microwave assisted method. The composites [MnL]0.25K0.15Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 (1), and [MnL]0.25K0.15Cd 0. 80PS3(H2O)~0.5 (2) were obtained by the conventional method, after stirring a suspension of the corresponding potassium precursor and the macrocyclic complex for two weeks, while [MnL]0.35K0.15Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 (3) and [MnL]0.25K0.15Cd 0. 80PS3(H2O)~0.5 (4) after stirring for four weeks at room temperature. Using a microwave assisted reaction permitted to obtain in a shorter period of time as compared with the conventional method, composites [MnL]0.20K0.15Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 (5) and [MnL]0.15K0.15Cd 0. 80PS3(H2O)~0.5 (6). All the M = MnII, MnIII composites show a bulk antiferromagnetic behavior. However, the spontaneous magnetization present at low temperature in the potassium precursor K0.40Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 is observable in composite [MnL]0.20K0.15Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 (5), while it is completely absent in composites [MnL]0.25K0.15Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 (1) and [MnL]0.35K0.15Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 (3).

Models to predict the magnetic properties of single- and multiple-bridged phosphate Cu-II systems: a theoretical DFT insight
Copper(II) phosphate bridged compounds have been studied by DFT methods in order to gain a better understanding of the magnetic exchange interactions through 1,1 and 1,3-bridges, which vary with the bonding modes of the ligand. In many cases phosphate is only one among several bridging ligands making it difficult to identify the predominant exchange pathway. This work proposes a graphical analysis, based on the unrestricted corresponding orbitals (UCO), and the derived 'magnetic orbitals' to identify the predominant exchange pathway. Models for the 1,1- and 1,3-bridging modes allow establishing the angle or dihedral dependence of the J values. For the 1,1-bridging mode the theta Cu-O-Cu angle was used. For the 1,3-phosphate the correlation was established with a D-P-O-i-Cu-i dihedral angle (tau) where D is a dummy atom. Using models with different D-P-O-i-Cu-i dihedral angles a predictive scheme was generated. Eleven copper(II) phosphate bridged structures were used to validate the proposed model. The study has shown that antiferromagnetic exchange interactions are primarily produced by phosphate bridges due to the possibility of this ligand that always enables a degree of overlap between the magnetic orbitals
Critical rotation of a harmonically trapped Bose gas
We study experimentally and theoretically a cold trapped Bose gas under
critical rotation, i.e. with a rotation frequency close to the frequency of the
radial confinement. We identify two regimes: the regime of explosion where the
cloud expands to infinity in one direction, and the regime where the condensate
spirals out of the trap as a rigid body. The former is realized for a dilute
cloud, and the latter for a Bose-Einstein condensate with the interparticle
interaction exceeding a critical value. This constitutes a novel system in
which repulsive interactions help in maintaining particles together.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, submitted to PR
Continuous Matrix Product Ansatz for the One-Dimensional Bose Gas with Point Interaction
We study a matrix product representation of the Bethe ansatz state for the
Lieb-Linger model describing the one-dimensional Bose gas with delta-function
interaction. We first construct eigenstates of the discretized model in the
form of matrix product states using the algebraic Bethe ansatz. Continuous
matrix product states are then exactly obtained in the continuum limit with a
finite number of particles. The factorizing -matrices in the lattice model
are indispensable for the continuous matrix product states and lead to a marked
reduction from the original bosonic system with infinite degrees of freedom to
the five-vertex model.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figur
Collective modes of a quasi two-dimensional Bose condensate in large gas parameter regime
We have theoretically studied the collective modes of a quasi two-dimensional
(Q2D) Bose condensate in the large gas parameter regime by using a formalism
which treats the interaction energy beyond the mean-field approximation. In the
calculation we use the perturbative expansion for the interaction energy by
incorporating the Lee, Huang and Yang (LHY) correction term. The results show
that incorporation of this higher order term leads to detectable modifications
in the mode frequencies.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure
Guiding the humoral response against HIV-1 toward a MPER adjacent region by immunization with a VLP-formulated antibody-selected envelope variant
Preventive HIV-1 vaccine strategies rely on the elicitation of broadly neutralizing antibody (bNAb) responses, but their induction in vivo by vaccination remains challenging. Considering that the ability of an epitope to elicit effective humoral immunity depends on its exposure on the virion, we have used a reverse genetics approach to select variants from an HIV-1 AC10_29 randomly mutated envelope library that showed increased affinity for a selected bNAb (4E10 bNAb targeting the HIV-1 MPER region). Isolated envelope sequences were analyzed by deep-sequencing showing a small number of dominant changes, including the loss of four potential N-linked glycosylation sites and disruption of the V1/V2 loop. Accordingly, the dominant variant (LR1-C1), showed not only increased affinity for MPER bNAbs 4E10 and 2F5, but also higher affinity for an additional antibody targeting the V3 loop (447-52D) that could be a consequence of an open conformation tier 1-like Env. Furthermore, the amino acids specific for the selected variant are associated with an increased sensitivity for 4E10 and 2F5 antibodies. In vivo studies showed that sera from mice immunized with LR1-C1 viruses possessed an improved neutralizing activity compared to the wild-type AC10_29 env. While Virus Like Particles (VLPs) carrying this envelope were unable to induce detectable neutralizing activity in immunized rabbits, one animal showed antibody response to the 4E10-proximal region. Our data establish a novel approach that has the potential to yield HIV envelope immunogen sequences that direct antibody responses to specific envelope regions
The major upgrade of the MAGIC telescopes, Part II: A performance study using observations of the Crab Nebula
MAGIC is a system of two Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes located in
the Canary island of La Palma, Spain. During summer 2011 and 2012 it underwent
a series of upgrades, involving the exchange of the MAGIC-I camera and its
trigger system, as well as the upgrade of the readout system of both
telescopes. We use observations of the Crab Nebula taken at low and medium
zenith angles to assess the key performance parameters of the MAGIC stereo
system. For low zenith angle observations, the standard trigger threshold of
the MAGIC telescopes is ~50GeV. The integral sensitivity for point-like sources
with Crab Nebula-like spectrum above 220GeV is (0.66+/-0.03)% of Crab Nebula
flux in 50 h of observations. The angular resolution, defined as the sigma of a
2-dimensional Gaussian distribution, at those energies is < 0.07 degree, while
the energy resolution is 16%. We also re-evaluate the effect of the systematic
uncertainty on the data taken with the MAGIC telescopes after the upgrade. We
estimate that the systematic uncertainties can be divided in the following
components: < 15% in energy scale, 11-18% in flux normalization and +/-0.15 for
the energy spectrum power-law slope.Comment: 21 pages, 25 figures, accepted for publication in Astroparticle

Probing the very-high-energy gamma-ray spectral curvature in the blazar PG 1553+113 with the MAGIC telescopes
PG 1553+113 is a very-high-energy (VHE, ) -ray
emitter classified as a BL Lac object. Its redshift is constrained by
intergalactic absorption lines in the range . The MAGIC telescopes
have monitored the source's activity since 2005. In early 2012, PG 1553+113 was
found in a high-state, and later, in April of the same year, the source reached
its highest VHE flux state detected so far. Simultaneous observations carried
out in X-rays during 2012 April show similar flaring behaviour. In contrast,
the -ray flux at observed by Fermi-LAT is
compatible with steady emission. In this paper, a detailed study of the flaring
state is presented. The VHE spectrum shows clear curvature, being well fitted
either by a power law with an exponential cut-off or by a log-parabola. A
simple power-law fit hypothesis for the observed shape of the PG 1553+113 VHE
-ray spectrum is rejected with a high significance (fit probability
P=2.6 ). The observed curvature is compatible with the
extragalactic background light (EBL) imprint predicted by current generation
EBL models assuming a redshift . New constraints on the redshift are
derived from the VHE spectrum. These constraints are compatible with previous
limits and suggest that the source is most likely located around the optical
lower limit, , based on the detection of Ly absorption. Finally,
we find that the synchrotron self-Compton (SSC) model gives a satisfactory
description of the observed multi-wavelength spectral energy distribution
during the flare.Comment: 13 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in MNRA
Multi-Wavelength Observations of the Blazar 1ES 1011+496 in Spring 2008
The BL Lac object 1ES 1011+496 was discovered at Very High Energy gamma-rays
by MAGIC in spring 2007. Before that the source was little studied in different
wavelengths. Therefore a multi-wavelength (MWL) campaign was organized in
spring 2008. Along MAGIC, the MWL campaign included the Metsahovi radio
observatory, Bell and KVA optical telescopes and the Swift and AGILE
satellites. MAGIC observations span from March to May, 2008 for a total of 27.9
hours, of which 19.4 hours remained after quality cuts. The light curve showed
no significant variability. The differential VHE spectrum could be described
with a power-law function. Both results were similar to those obtained during
the discovery. Swift XRT observations revealed an X-ray flare, characterized by
a harder when brighter trend, as is typical for high synchrotron peak BL Lac
objects (HBL). Strong optical variability was found during the campaign, but no
conclusion on the connection between the optical and VHE gamma-ray bands could
be drawn. The contemporaneous SED shows a synchrotron dominated source, unlike
concluded in previous work based on nonsimultaneous data, and is well described
by a standard one zone synchrotron self Compton model. We also performed a
study on the source classification. While the optical and X-ray data taken
during our campaign show typical characteristics of an HBL, we suggest, based
on archival data, that 1ES 1011+496 is actually a borderline case between
intermediate and high synchrotron peak frequency BL Lac objects.Comment: 13 pages, accepted for publication in MNRA
