Variational Perturbation Theory for Markov Processes
We develop a convergent variational perturbation theory for conditional
probability densities of Markov processes. The power of the theory is
illustrated by applying it to the diffusion of a particle in an anharmonic

Thermal Structure of Clear Lake, Iowa
Summer water temperatures in the shallow areas of Clear Lake were slightly higher and had a greater daily range than temperatures measured in the limnetic zone. The lake was not thermally stratified, although small differences sometimes were found between surface and bottom temperatures at the deepest point. Temperatures measured in the Clear Lake Water Treatment Plant were representative of those measured in the limnetic zone of the lake and provide a useful index of temperature conditions in the lake as a whole. The average annual temperature curve is asymmetrical, with the highest temperature falling on August 5 and the lowest occurring 119 days later on November 30. The median and mean lake temperatures were 51° and 53.7°F. The median date of ice breakup was April 3 and the median date of freezing was November 27
Vertical perturbations of human gait: organisation and adaptation of leg muscle responses
During the last several years, evidence has arisen that the neuronal control of human locomotion depends on feedback from load receptors. The aim of the present study was to determine the effects and the course of sudden and unexpected changes in body load (vertical perturbations) on leg muscle activity patterns during walking on a treadmill. Twenty-two healthy subjects walking with 25% body weight support (BWS) were repetitively and randomly loaded to 5% or unloaded to 45% BWS during left mid-stance. At the new level of BWS, the subjects performed 3-11 steps before returning to 25% BWS (base level). EMG activity of upper and lower leg muscles was recorded from both sides. The bilateral leg muscle activity pattern changed following perturbations in the lower leg muscles and the net effect of the vertical perturbations showed onset latencies with a range of 90-105ms. Body loading enhanced while unloading diminished the magnitude of ipsilateral extensor EMG amplitude, compared to walking at base level. Contralateral leg flexor burst activity was shortened following loading and prolonged following unloading perturbation while flexor EMG amplitude was unchanged. A general decrease in EMG amplitudes occurred during the course of the experiment. This is assumed to be due to adaptation. Only the muscles directly activated by the perturbations did not significantly change EMG amplitude. This is assumed to be due to the required compensation of the perturbations by polysynaptic spinal reflexes released following the perturbations. The Need for An Australian Regulatory Code for the Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Military Application
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is enabling rapid technological innovation and is ever more pervasive, in a global technological eco-system lacking suitable governance and absence of regulation over AI-enabled technologies. Australia is committed to being a global leader in trusted secure and responsible AI and has escalated the development of its own sovereign AI capabilities. Military and Defence organisations have similarly embraced AI, harnessing advantages for applications supporting battlefield autonomy, intelligence analysis, capability planning, operations, training, and autonomous weapons systems. While no regulation exists covering AI-enabled military systems and autonomous weapons, these platforms must comply with International Humanitarian Law, the Law of Armed Conflict, and the Use of Force. This paper examines comparative international regulatory approaches across major allied nations in the US, UK, and Europe and suggests future direction for Australian regulation of AI in lethal application
Are we too reluctant about irrational nutraceutical combinations?
Background: The objective of the study was to study the rationality of Vitamins and minerals combinations available in India and to provide comprehensive data of irrational combinations having excess and sub sufficient quantity of vitamin and minerals than recommended by National Guidelines of India.Methods: This observational study and analysis was done between June and August 2016. Data was collected from current index of medical specialties and drug India. Rationality assessment was done using National list approved drug combinations by Central drug standard control organization (CDSCO) and essentially was cross checked using World Health Organization essential drug list 2015. Adequacy was analysed using Dietary reference intake (DRI) for Indians by Nutrional council of India draft guidance.Results: In our analysis, we have found 1184 irrational nutraceutical preparations available in India market. Out of 461(38.9%) are based on fat soluble vitamins, 190 (16.4%) based on B-complex vitamins based and 5339 (45.1%) related to essential minerals. Among 461 fat soluble vitamins, 104 contain excessive level, 334 contain substandard levels. Similarly 128 and 62 Vitamin B-Complex based preparations are having excess and less quantity than recommended levels respectively and almost all the mineral combinations except four are not prepared following guidelines. None of these combinations were included in National essential list of medicines.Conclusions: Multivitamins are generally considered safe; these are irrationally prescribed and taken as self-medication by public. Many of the ill effects are often unnoticed and under reported. Government of India should regulate the manufacture and sale these nutraceuticals to promote rational use of drugs and to promote wellbeing and safety of Indian population which is primary objective of ‘Health for all’

between walls by strong-coupling theory. The results are in very good agreement

The Bag320 satellite DNA family in Bacillus stick insects (Phasmatodea): Different rates of molecular evolution of highly repetitive DNA in bisexual and parthenogenetic taxa
The Bag320 satellite DNA (satDNA) family was studied in seven populations of the stick insects Bacillus atticus (parthenogenetic, unisexual) and Bacillus grandii (bisexual). It was characterized as widespread in all zymoraces of B. atticus and in all subspecies of B. grandii. The copy number of this satellite is higher in the bisexual B. grandii (15%-20% of the genome) than in the parthenogenetic B. atticus (2%- 5% of the genome). The nucleotide sequences of 12 Bag320 clones from B. atticus and 17 from B. grandii differed at 13 characteristic positions by fixed nucleotide substitutions. Thus, nucleotide sequences from both species cluster conspecifically in phylogenetic dendrograms. The nucleotide sequences derived from B. grandii grandii could he clearly discriminated from those of B. grandii benazzii and B. grandii maretimi on the basis of 25 variable sites, although all taxa come from Sicily. In contrast, the Bag320 sequences from B. atticus could not he discriminated accordingly, although they derive from geographically quite distant populations of its three zymoraces (the Italian and Greek B. atticus atticus, the Greek and Turkish B. atticus carius, and the Cyprian B. atticus cyprius). The different rate of evolutionary turnover of the Bag320 satDNA in both species can he related to their different modes of reproduction. This indicates that meiosis and chromosome segregation affect processes in satDNA diversification
Categorical Milnor squares and K-theory of algebraic stacks
We introduce a notion of Milnor square of stable -categories and prove a criterion under which algebraic K-theory sends such a square to a cartesian square of spectra. We apply this to prove Milnor excision and proper excision theorems in the K-theory of algebraic stacks with affine diagonal and nice stabilizers. This yields a generalization of Weibel's conjecture on the vanishing of negative K-groups for this class of stacks
