Detection of Histone Modifications in Plant Leaves
Chromatin structure is important for the regulation of gene expression in eukaryotes. In this process, chromatin remodeling, DNA methylation, and covalent modifications on the amino-terminal tails of histones H3 and H4 play essential roles1-2. H3 and H4 histone modifications include methylation of lysine and arginine, acetylation of lysine, and phosphorylation of serine residues1-2. These modifications are associated either with gene activation, repression, or a primed state of gene that supports more rapid and robust activation of expression after perception of appropriate signals (microbe-associated molecular patterns, light, hormones, etc.)3-7
Time-dependent density functional approach for the calculation of inelastic x-ray scattering spectra of molecules
7 páginas, 5 figuras.-- et al.We apply time-dependent density functional theory to study the valence electron excitations of molecules and generalize the typically used time-propagation scheme and Casida’s method to calculate the full wavevector dependent response function. This allows the computational study of dipole-forbidden valence electron transitions and the dispersion of spectral weight as a function of the wavevector. The method provides a novel analysis tool for spectroscopic methods such as inelastic x-ray scattering and electron energy loss spectroscopy. We present results for benzene and CF3Cl and make a comparison with experimental results.Acknowledge HPCEuropa2 program, Academy of Finland (1127462, Centers of Excellence Program 2006–2011, and National Graduate School in Materials Physics) for financial support, and

A bifunctional dermaseptin–thanatin dipeptide functionalizes the crop surface for sustainable pest management
To reduce pesticide use while preserving crop productivity, alternative pest and disease control measures are needed. We thought of an alternative way of functionalizing leaves of soybean to fight its most severe disease, Asian soybean rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi). To do so, we produced bifunctional peptides that adhere to the soybean leaf surface and prevent the germination of P. pachyrhizi spores. In detail, amphiphilic peptides liquid chromatography peak I (LCI), thanatin (THA), tachystatin A2 (TA2), and lactoferricin B (LFB) were all fused to enhanced green fluorescent protein (eGFP). Of these fusion peptides, eGFP–LCI and eGFP–THA bound strongly and in a rainfast manner to the surface of soybean, barley, and corn leaves. eGFP–THA binding to soybean also withstood high temperature, sunlight and biotic degradation for at least 17 days. The dipeptides seem to bind mainly to the surface wax layer of leaves because eGFP–THA and eGFP–LCI did not stick to the wax-depleted cer-j59 mutant of barley or to corn leaves with their surface wax removed. A fusion of the antimicrobial peptide dermaseptin 01 and THA (DS01–THA) inhibits the germination of P. pachyrhizi spores in vitro and reduces Asian soybean rust disease in a rainfast manner. Therefore, this study reveals that bifunctional peptides can be used to functionalize the crop surface for sustainable disease management
Kesiapan Petugas Puskesmas dalam Penanggulangan Infeksi Menular Seksual dan Hiv/aids pada Pelayanan Antenatal
Background: Prevalence HIV/AIDS among housewife has been increasing which was notice by higher cases of HIVpositive babies. An effective intervention effort in the health sector is to accelerate the decreasing of Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) through integrated approach of reproductive health care and STD HIV/AIDS. One of reproductive health services was to prevention and treatment of STD-HIV/AIDS. When this program was integrated with antenatal care it will prevents transmission of HIV from mother to child. The program called Prevention Mother To Child Transmission or PMTCT. Recently in Indonesia program antenatal care has not yet optimally integrated with STD-HIV/AIDS service. The objectiive of this study was to know how far preparedness of health center personnel in prevention transmission of STD, HIV/AIDS integrated with antenatal care. Methods: This study was exploration research. Respondents of this study were personals of public health center that have task related to antenal care and prevention program of STD, HIV/AIDS. Locations of study were Surabaya Malang Blitar Tulungagung, Semarang, Surakarta, Denpasar and Batam. Dara collection was done by interviewed and Focus Group Discussion. Results: The result of the study revealed the unprepared-ness of PHC personnel in term of knowledge about reproductive health and skill in universal precaution practice in integrated program of prevention STD, HIV/AIDS and antenatal care. Lack of facilities and its supporting system including the laboratory equipment and reagents also make activities of this integrated program being obstacle. Health service program still conducted fragmented because there was no standard operational procedure (SOP) of integrated program of STD, HIV/AIDS prevention and antenatal care. It was suggested to conduct a comprehensive program of reproductive health by increasing health personnel knowledge and skill with training; arrange SOP of integrated program of STD, HIV/AIDS prevention and antenatal care. It also needs to complete the facility with laboratory equipment i.e. rapid test and drugs to support this integrated program
Profiling carbohydrate composition, biohydrogen capacity, and disease resistance in potato
Background: Potato ( Solanum tuberosum ) is one of the most important
sources of carbohydrates in human diet. Because of its high
carbohydrate levels it recently has also received attention in
biohydrogen production. To exploit the natural variation of potato with
respect to resistance to major diseases, carbohydrate levels and
composition, and capacity for biohydrogen production we analyzed tubers
of native, improved, and genetically modified potatoes, and two other
tuberous species for their glucose, fructose, sucrose, and starch
content. Results: High-starch potato varieties were evaluated for their
potential for Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus -mediated
biohydrogen production with Desir\ue9e and Rosita varieties
delivering the highest biohydrogen amounts. Native line Vega1 and
improved line Yagana were both immune to two isolates (A291, A287) of
Phytophthora infestans . Conclusions: Our data demonstrate that native
potato varieties might have great potential for further improving the
multifaceted use of potato in worldwide food and biohydrogen
production
