Could the subprime crisis have been predicted? A mortgage risk modeling approach
The abnormally high mortgage default rates that became apparent in early 2007 were not foreseen
in June 2005, when mortgage production reached its peak. Could the significant increase in mortgage
defaults and the resultant subprime crisis have been predicted? This paper develops a mortgage-level
predictive model for mortgage default and delinquency rates, based on a logistic regression and
Markov chain framework. The results are compared against actual mortgage level default data and
provide strong evidence that the high US nonprime mortgage default rates which triggered the crisis
were already predictable in mid-2005 using historical data only available at the time
The most frequent cause of failure in primary total hip arthroplasties is the aseptic loosening of the femoral component, either in the cemented or uncemented stems, occurring by different causes. In the cemented stems the first cause is mechanical due to weakening of the cement mantle whereas uncemented stems loosen because of fibrous tissue ingrowths into the pores instead of bone. In cemented femoral stems, loosening tends to begin lately, but once it occurs the progression in fast. Uncemented stems may show radiolucent lines early, but is progression is slower. After a revision femoral component, the most common complication continues being aseptic loosening in both types of stems. Several advantage support the use of cemented femoral stems; the cement can be associated to antibiotics while obstructing the migration of polyethylene particles can be achieved with bony poor quality. The disadvantage of using uncemented stems are the possible bone ingrowth on a refreshed bone bed or bone grafts, and that the extraction of the stem in the event of failure is less difficult. However, bone ingrowth into the pores requires such good contact between the implant and the recipient that is difficult to obtain in revision surgery with poor bone quality. In the literature, the results in revision surgery with one or other type of stem are very contradictors, but a consensus seem to exist in that the election of the type of femoral component depends on several factors like life expectancy, activity requirement, obesity, bone quality, quantity of remnant bone stock and geometry of the proximal femur. The most important factor in the durability of revision hip arthroplasty is the bone quality: with good bone quality the results tend be favourable, regardless of the type of used stem; but with poor bone quality the results tend be worse with no cemented femoral components
“Paquípodos”: A difficult motive in the chronology of the Levantine Art
puede explicar bien porque se trate de los mismos grupos que ocupan un amplio territorio por el que se desplazan;
de ocupación son abordadas para tratar de ofrecer una definición global de este horizonte artísticoWe present a new classification for the robust human Levantine motifs, or Centelles type, according to their body proportions
and the dynamic attitude presented. Based on the direction in which these dynamic motifs (walking or even
running) were depicted on the decorated panels we can conclude that the most part of them were oriented going up
the basins or rivers, where the rock shelters are located, always to the interior, to the Maestrazgo. This tendency can
be explained because they can be the same groups occupying a large territory where they move around; or maybe
because social or territorial conflicts factors aggravated by an aridity crisis (related to the 8.2 event). Different aspects
related to the thematic, superimpositions, territorial distribution and the relationship with the occupation sites are
addressed to offer a global definition for this artistic horizo
