Neoliberalism in Argentina and Chile: common antecedents, divergent paths
This paper contrasts the experiences of neoliberalism in Argentina and Chile, exploring why two countries that implemented apparently similar market reforms came to different stances on marketization: a post-neoliberal politics in Argentina, and a tempered neoliberalism in Chile that has only recently come under scrutiny. The paper traces the common antecedents that inspired these reforms and the different outcomes and reactions that they produced. In contrast to recent literature, which emphasizes one or another explanatory factor, this article offers a synthetic comparison of the historical, political, economic, and ideological factors in play, helping to understand how capitalists achieved a hegemonic class position in Chile and not in Argentina
‘VALENTONES’, ‘ALCALDES DE BARRIO’ AND PARADIGMS OF CIVILITY.CONFLICTS AND ACCOMODATIONS IN SANTIAGO OF CHILE, XVIII CENTURY.
This work studies the polisemous universe of the practices and the speeches of violence, civility and social control that circulated in the city of Santiago throughout XVIII century. When analyzing plots of meaning of the narrations of interpersonal violence, related to the construction of a hegemonic masculinity and protected in speeches of honour, the study explores the survival of old practices of private revenge. Also, it examines the tensions and negotiations established between these and the strategies of social control undertaken by the Bourbons’ state and exerted through a microphysics of daily control, incarnated as much in the functions of the ‘Alcaldes de barrio’ like in the socialization of a civility paradigm. The latest allows putting under evaluation the fissures and the strengths of the foundations of the Bourbon’s administration
I will consider in this paper the example of the Yellow Pages of the Hauts-de-Seine in order to treat the problem of the inaction that some textual and imaginary regimes impose on contemporary subjectivity. Critical thought confronts the disperse character of actual knowledge by incarnating its constitutive illogism, expanding its operations towards new forms of discourse
Viabilidad de los materiales termoelectricos
Treballs Finals del Mà ster d’Energies Renovables i Sostenibilitat Energètica, Facultat de FÃsica, Universitat de Barcelona, Curs: 2013-2014, Tutora: Dra. Mercè Segarra RubÃThermoelectric materials are able to take advantage of the waste heat in power plants
and convert it into additional electricity; as well as to generate a thermal gradient using
an electric current. Due to those characteristics thermoelectric materials are considered
as a clean energy.
Thermoelectric modules have a low efficiency (15% maximum), and actual lines of
research are looking for higher efficiency materials.
However, economic and sustainability factors are not taken into account in those
investigations, and those can be critical for a large scale implantation. For example, it
makes no sense to study materials whose components are not produced in necessary
quantities, or even very expensive materials.
In this project, some materials efficiency/cost relations are analyzed in order to choose
which of them is a potential candidate for a large scale application, considering
information about elements annual production or recycling potential.
From this research in can be deduced that Zn4Sb3 is a good option if application’s
temperature is between 300 K and 700 K due to its cheapness. On the other hand, for
high temperature applications (1000 K), silicon-germanium alloys seem to be the best
choice
Is there a right to a to have children? Chilean constitutional la on autonomy and access to assisted reproductive techniques
developed in the absence of state regulations. The constitutional status of the embryo before
implantation is uncertain, due to the coexistence of contradictory decisions of the Chilean Constitutional
Court and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, as well as an ongoing debate
regarding the terms of incorporation of international human rights into the domestic legal system.
The author asserts that the right to have children using TRA is protected under the constitutional
and international human rights provisions guaranteeing personal autonomy, the free and equal access to health care, the right to benefit from scientific progress and the right to form a family
and to its protection. As a right protected prima facie by the Constitution, it allows for limitations and gives rise to positive state obligation
