Design and validation of a multidimensional questionnaire to assess adaptation to illness in onco-hematological patients (CMAE-OH)

El objetivo de este trabajo ha sido desarrollar un instrumento para la evaluación del bienestar psicológico de los pacientes hematooncológicos hospitalizados. Se diseñó un cuestionario evaluado mediante entrevista. Para ello se realizaron tres estudios: a) Un estudio interjueces con la primera versión del cuestionario para analizar la validez de contenido y la aparente, incluyendo valoraciones cuantitativas y cualitativas; b) Un estudio piloto para poner a prueba la estructura de la entrevista y analizar el formato de las preguntas y los valores de las respuestas; y c) Una evaluación de 168 pacientes hemato-oncológicos para determinar las características psicométricas del instrumento. Los estudios realizados han permitido llegar al desarrollo de un instrumento con sufi cientes garantías de calidad desde el punto de vista cualitativo y cuantitativo. Este instrumento proporciona información para la intervención preventiva; y puede servir como herramienta de cribado para la evaluación de problemas de adaptación a la enfermedad.The main objective of this research was to design and develop an instrument suitable for the psychological assessment of hospitalised hematooncological patients; capable of providing answers to the needs arose. A questionnaire was designed; it should be assessed through a semi-structured interview. Three studies were conducted: a) An expert analysis of the content reliability of the fi rst version of the instrument, including qualitative and quantitative methodology; b) A pilot study to test the interview structure and consider other possible pitfalls in the data collecting process; c) An extensive assessment of 168 hematooncological patients in a University Hospital with the fi nal version of the assessment instrument. The instrument presented an adequate reliability level. We observed that it provided enough information for a preventive intervention, and it could also be used as a screening tool for the assessment of issues related to the adjustment to illness

Uncovering the pedagogical potential of texts : Curriculum materials in classroom interaction in first language and literature education

Most teachers in many Western countries make use curriculum materials such as textbooks, workbooks and related teacher's guides in their teaching. In this study, 29 First language and literature lessons are analysed to discover different ways in which texts that are part of curriculum materials are used in the curriculum. The findings indicate that the identification of the pedagogical potential of the texts demands a profound understanding of the subject matter. Moreover, the realization of this potential always involves creativity and improvisation. Thus, we suggest that preparedness to read curriculum materials analytically and critically is a core component of teachers' expertise.Peer reviewe

The article presents the findings from a systematic review of research on curriculum materials used in Finnish basic education. The purpose of the study is to aggregate research-based knowledge of the materials and their use. Moreover, it seeks to uncover the assumptions concerning the materials and their functions that underlie the theoretical and methodological approaches adopted by the researchers. A total of 171 scientific studies were analysed. The main finding of the study is that the majority of existing studies focus on examining the content of textbooks and workbooks in isolation from the contexts in which they are used. We suggest that further research on the role of curriculum materials in planning and teaching would benefit textbook authors, teachers and teacher educators.    </p

The use of multiplex platforms for absolute and relative protein quantification of clinical material

Abstract When introducing multiplex platforms to measure protein content in precious clinical material there is an increased risk of cross reactivity, loss of sensitivity as well as accuracy. In this paper, four multiplex platforms and one singleplex platform were compared by running pre- and post-treatment plasma samples from CML patients. We found a variation of absolute protein concentrations between platforms. For some of the analytes and platforms, relative differences between pre- and post-treatment samples correlated. We conclude that absolute concentrations measured by different platforms should be compared with caution and comparing relative differences could be more accurate.Peer reviewe

”Siin varmaa niinku raja ylitty.” Opettajien käsitykset koskettamisen normeista ja rajoista

Artikkelissa tarkastellaan opettajan käsityksiä koskettamisen normeista peruskoulussa.Tarkastelussa nostetaan esiin, miten opettajat hahmottavat sopivan koskettamisen rajat ja miten hemerkityksellistävät sukupuolen näihin rajankäynteihin liittyvissä selonteoissaan. Analyysi perustuupuolistrukturoituihin opettajahaastatteluihin. Karkeasti litteroiduista haastatteluista paikannettiin174 sukupuoleen ja koskettamiseen liittyvää episodia. Episodeja analysoitiin kielitieteellisendiskurssianalyysin keinoin hyödyntäen tulkinnassa myös etnometodologis-keskustelunanalyyttistanäkemystä siitä, että sosiaaliset normit nousevat näkyviksi erilaisissa selonteoissa.Esimerkkikatkelmien analyysissa tutkitaan, miten opettajat kielentävät kosketuksen normistoa jatekevät selkoa siitä, mikä tekee episodissa kuvatun toiminnan arkaluonteiseksi tai jännitteiseksi.Rajankäynneistä nousee esiin, että opettajat orientoituvat niin oppilaiden ikään, sukupuoleen kuinetniseen taustaan koskettamisen käytänteitä ja säännöstöä pohtiessaan. Samalla he tulevatheijastaneeksi vallitsevia sukupuolinäkemyksiä ja heteroseksististä ideologiaa.</p

Assembly of the beta 4-Integrin Interactome Based on Proximal Biotinylation in the Presence and Absence of Heterodimerization

Integrin-mediated laminin adhesions mediate epithelial cell anchorage to basement membranes and are critical regulators of epithelial cell polarity. Integrins assemble large multiprotein complexes that link to the cytoskeleton and convey signals into the cells. Comprehensive proteomic analyses of actin network-linked focal adhesions (FA) have been performed, but the molecular composition of intermediate filament-linked hemidesmosomes (HD) remains incompletely characterized. Here we have used proximity-dependent biotin identification (BioID) technology to label and characterize the interactome of epithelia-specific beta 4-integrin that, as alpha 6 beta 4-heterodimer, forms the core of HDs. The analysis identified similar to 150 proteins that were specifically labeled by BirA-tagged integrin-beta 4. In addition to known HDs proteins, the interactome revealed proteins that may indirectly link integrin-beta 4 to actin-connected protein complexes, such as FAs and dystrophin/dystroglycan complexes. The specificity of the screening approach was validated by confirming the HD localization of two candidate beta 4-interacting proteins, utrophin (UTRN) and ELKS/Rab6-interacting/CAST family member 1 (ERC1). Interestingly, although establishment of functional HDs depends on the formation of alpha 6 beta 4-heterodimers, the assembly of beta 4-interactome was not strictly dependent on alpha 6-integrin expression. Our survey to the HD interactome sets a precedent for future studies and provides novel insight into the mechanisms of HD assembly and function of the beta 4-integrin.Peer reviewe
