Relativistic description of 3He(e,e'p)2H
The Relativistic Distorted-Wave Impulse Approximation is used to describe the
He()H process. We describe the He nucleus within the
adiabatic hyperspherical expansion method with realistic nucleon-nucleon
interactions. The overlap between the He and the deuteron wave functions
can be accurately computed from a three-body calculation. The nucleons are
described by solutions of the Dirac equation with scalar and vector (S-V)
potentials. The wave function of the outgoing proton is obtained by solving the
Dirac equation with a S-V optical potential fitted to elastic proton scattering
data on the residual nucleus. Within this theoretical framework, we compute the
cross section of the reaction and other observables like the
transverse-longitudinal asymmetry, and compare them with the available

The Gulf of Cádiz: thrusting or strike-slip motion?
In the Gulf of Cádiz (SW Iberian Peninsula) the boundary between Eurasia and Nubia plates corresponds to a narrow band well defined by the seismicity, where large earthquakes (M>7.0) may be associated to N-S to NNW-SSE horizontal compression due to the convergence between the two plates. Most of these earthquakes are at shallow depth (less than 40 km), with some foci at intermediate-depth, showing E-W distribution and limited by a narrow band less than 20 km wide that broadens as we move to the Strait of Gibraltar. In this area the lithospheric material is relatively rigid and the stresses are released by larger earthquakes. General tectonic models proposed for the Azores-Tunisia plate boundary explain fairly well the nature of its seismicity and tectonic motions; however, details of some of its aspects are still poorly understood and controversial. Zittelini et al. (2009) has recently proposed for the Gulf of Cádiz, transcurrent-transpressional motion along a long strike slip fault based on multichannel seismic reflection surveys. However, this contradicts the compressional motion and reverse faulting of large 1755 Lisbon earthquake (~Mw9), which generate a large tsunami and the recent moderate (Mw>6.0) in 1964, 2007 and 2009 and large (Mw= 8.0) in 1969 earthquakes occurred in the region. These earthquakes show thrusting motion along E-W faults with the southern block going under, corresponding to horizontal NW-SE compression, and they can be related directly to the plate convergence between Nubia and Iberia.

Superscaling Predictions for Neutral Current Quasielastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering
The application of superscaling ideas to predict neutral-current (NC)
quasielastic (QE) neutrino cross sections is investigated. Results obtained
within the relativistic impulse approximation (RIA) using the same relativistic
mean field potential (RMF) for both initial and final nucleons -- a model that
reproduces the experimental (e,e') scaling function -- are used to illustrate
the ideas involved. While NC reactions are not so well suited for scaling
analyses, to a large extent the RIA-RMF predictions do exhibit superscaling.
Independence of the scaled response on the nuclear species is very well
fulfilled. The RIA-RMF NC superscaling function is in good agreement with the
experimental (e,e') one. The idea that electroweak processes can be described
with a universal scaling function, provided that mild restrictions on the
kinematics are assumed, is shown to be valid.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, published in PR
Hints on the quadrupole deformation of the (1232)
The E2/M1 ratio (EMR) of the (1232) is extracted from the world data
in pion photoproduction by means of an Effective Lagrangian Approach (ELA).This
quantity has been derived within a crossing symmetric, gauge invariant, and
chiral symmetric Lagrangian model which also contains a consistent modern
treatment of the (1232) resonance. The \textit{bare} s-channel
(1232) contribution is well isolated and Final State Interactions (FSI)
are effectively taken into account fulfilling Watson's theorem. The obtained
EMR value, EMR%, is in good agreement with the latest lattice
QCD calculations [Phys. Rev. Lett. 94, 021601 (2005)] and disagrees with
results of current quark model calculations.Comment: Enlarged conclusions and explanations on the E2/M1 ratio. Figure 3

Relativistic analysis of the 208Pb(e,e'p)207Tl reaction at high momentum
The recent 208Pb(e,e'p)207Tl data from NIKHEF-K at high missing momentum
(p_m>300 MeV/c) are compared to theoretical results obtained with a fully
relativistic formalism previously applied to analyze data on the low missing
momentum (p_m < 300 MeV/c) region. The same relativistic optical potential and
mean field wave functions are used in the two p_m-regions. The spectroscopic
factors of the various shells are extracted from the analysis of the low-p_m
data and then used in the high-p_m region. In contrast to previous analyses
using a nonrelativistic mean field formalism, we do not find a substantial
deviation from the mean field predictions other than that of the spectroscopic
factors, which appear to be consistent with both low- and high-p_m data. We
find that the difference between results of relativistic and nonrelativistic
formalisms is enhanced in the p_m<0 region that will be interesting to explore

Properties of Nucleon Resonances by means of a Genetic Algorithm
We present an optimization scheme that employs a Genetic Algorithm (GA) to
determine the properties of low-lying nucleon excitations within a realistic
photo-pion production model based upon an effective Lagrangian. We show that
with this modern optimization technique it is possible to reliably assess the
parameters of the resonances and the associated error bars as well as to
identify weaknesses in the models. To illustrate the problems the optimization
process may encounter, we provide results obtained for the nucleon resonances
(1230) and (1700). The former can be easily isolated and thus
has been studied in depth, while the latter is not as well known

The semi-classical approach to the exclusive electron scattering
The semiclassical approach, successfully applied in the past to the
inelastic, inclusive electron scattering off nuclei, is extended to the
treatment of exclusive processes. The final states interaction is accounted for
in the mean field approximation, respecting the Pauli principle. The impact on
the exclusive cross section of the shape of the potential binding the nucleons
into the nucleus and of the distortion of the outgoing nucleon wave are
explored. The exclusive scattering is found to be quite sensitive to the mean
field final states interaction, unlike the inclusive one. Indeed we verify that
the latter is not affected, as implied by unitarity, by the distortion of the
outgoing nucleon wave except for the effect of relativity, which is modest in
the range of momenta up to about 500 MeV/c. Furthermore, depending upon the
correlations between the directions of the outgoing and of the initial nucleon,
the exclusive cross-section turns out to be remarkably sensitive to the shape
of the potential binding the nucleons. These correlations also critically
affect the domain in the missing energy-- missing momentum plane where the

Indeed, the Lisbon earthquake is a very unusual seismic event and an exception to the rule because most great tsunami-generating earth- quakes are related to well-defined subduction zones. The epicentral region, focal mechanism and the structures involved at the origin of this earthquake are still a matter of debate, with several models having been proposed (e.g. Baptista et al., 2003; Grandin et al., 2007a,b; Gutscher et al., 2006; Ribeiro et al., 2006; Vilanova et al., 2003; Zitellini et al., 2001)
Nuclear effects in neutrino and antineutrino CCQE scattering at MINERvA kinematics
We compare the charged-current quasielastic neutrino and antineutrino
observables obtained in two different nuclear models, the phenomenological
SuperScaling Approximation and the Relativistic Mean Field approach, with the
recent data published by the MINERvA Collaboration. Both models provide a good
description of the data without the need of an ad hoc increase in the mass
parameter in the axial-vector dipole form factor. Comparisons are also made

Meson exchange currents in electromagnetic one-nucleon emission
The role of meson exchange currents (MEC) in electron- and photon-induced
one-nucleon emission processes is studied in a nonrelativistic model including
correlations and final state interactions. The nuclear current is the sum of a
one-body and of a two-body part. The two-body current includes pion seagull,
pion-in-flight and the isobar current contributions. Numerical results are
presented for the exclusive 16O(e,e'p)15N and 16O(\gamma,p)15N reactions. MEC
effects are in general rather small in (e,e'p), while in (\gamma,p) they are
always large and important to obtain a consistent description of (e,e'p) and
(\gamma,p) data, with the same spectroscopic factors. The calculated (\gamma,p)
cross sections are sensitive to short-range correlations at high values of the
recoil momentum, where MEC effects are larger and overwhelm the contribution of
