Search for the glueball candidates f0(1500) and fJ(1710) in gamma gamma collisions

Data taken with the ALEPH detector at LEP1 have been used to search for gamma gamma production of the glueball candidates f0(1500) and fJ(1710) via their decay to pi+pi-. No signal is observed and upper limits to the product of gamma gamma width and pi+pi- branching ratio of the f0(1500) and the fJ(1710) have been measured to be Gamma_(gamma gamma -> f0(1500)). BR(f0(1500)->pi+pi-) < 0.31 keV and Gamma_(gamma gamma -> fJ(1710)). BR(fJ(1710)->pi+pi-) < 0.55 keV at 95% confidence level.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figure

Measurement of the W mass in e+ee^+ e^- collisions at 183 GeV

    No full text
The mass of the W boson is obtained from reconstructed invariant mass distributions in W-pair events. The sample of W pairs is selected from 57 pb1^{-1} collected with the ALEPH detector in 1997 at a centre-of-mass energy of 183 GeV. The invariant mass distributions of reweighted Monte Carlo events are fitted separately to the experimental distributions in the qqbarqqbarqqbarqqbar and all l\nuqqbar channels to give the following W masses: mWhadronic=80.461±0.177(stat.)±0.045(syst.)±0.056(theory)GeV/c2m_{W}^{hadronic} = 80.461 \pm 0.177(stat.) \pm 0.045(syst.) \pm 0.056(theory) GeV/c^2, mWsemileptonic=80.326±0.184(stat.)±0.040(syst.)GeV/c2m_{W}^{semileptonic} = 80.326 \pm 0.184(stat.) \pm 0.040(syst.) GeV/c^2 where the theory error represents the possible effects of final state interactions. The combination of these two measurements, including the LEP energy calibration uncertainty, gives $m_{W} = 80.393 \pm 0.128(stat.)\pm 0.041(syst.) \pm 0.028(theory)\pm 0.021(LEP) GeV/c^2

Search for R-Parity Violating Decays of Supersymmetric Particles in e+ee^{+}e^{-} Collisions at Centre-of-Mass Energies near 183 GeV

Searches for pair-production of supersymmetric particles under the assumption that R-parity is violated via a single dominant LLEˉLL{\bar E}, LQDˉLQ{\bar D} or UˉDˉDˉ{\bar U} {\bar D} {\bar D} coupling are performed using the data collected by the \ALEPH\ collaboration at centre-of-mass energies of 181--184~\gev. The observed candidate events in the data are in agreement with the Standard Model expectations. Upper limits on the production cross-sections and lower limits on the masses of charginos, sleptons, squarks and sneutrinos are de rived

Measurement of W-pair production in e+ee^+ e^- collisions at 189 GeV

The production of W-pairs is analysed in a data samplecollected by ALEPH at a mean centre-of-mass energy of 188.6 GeV,corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 174.2 pb^-1. Crosssections are given for different topologies of W decays intoleptons or hadrons. Combining all final states and assumingStandard Model branching fractions, the total W-pair cross sectionis measured to be 15.71 +- 0.34 (stat) +- 0.18 (syst) pb.Using also the W-pair data samples collected by ALEPH at lowercentre-of-mass energies, the decay branching fraction of the W bosoninto hadrons is measured to be BR (W hadrons) = 66.97+- 0.65 (stat) +- 0.32 (syst) %, allowing a determination of theCKM matrix element |V(cs)|= 0.951 +- 0.030 (stat) +- 0.015 (syst)

Searches for neutral Higgs bosons in e+ee^{+}e^{-} collisions at centre-of-mass energies from 192 to 202 GeV

    Get PDF
Searches for neutral Higgs bosons are performed with the 237 pb^-1 of data collected in 1999 by the ALEPH detector at LEP, for centre-of-mass energies between 191.6 and 201.6 GeV. These searches apply to Higgs bosons within the context of the Standard Model and its minimal supersymmetric extension (MSSM) as well as to invisibly decaying Higgs bosons. No evidence of a signal is seen. A lower limit on the mass of the Standard Model Higgs boson of 107.7 GeV/c^2 at 95% confidence level is set. In the MSSM, lower limits of 91.2 and 91.6 GeV/c^2 are derived for the masses of the neutral Higgs bosons h and A, respectively. For a Higgs boson decaying invisibly and produced with the Standard Model cross section, masses below 106.4 GeV/c^2 are excluded

Charm production in two-photon collisions measured by the ALEPH detector at LEP II energies

    No full text
Charm production in two-photon collisions has been measured at LEP for center of mass energies of square root S/sub e//sup +//sub e//sup -/=183-189 GeV using the ALEPH detector. Charm events have been detected via muons from semi leptonic decays and via inclusive D/sup */ production. Preliminary results are presented. The total cross section sigma (e/sup +/e/sup -/ to e/sup +/e/sup -/cc) has been measured. The relative fractions of the contributing processes have been determined for the acceptance range of D/sup */ mesons. Differential D/sup */ cross sections in the transverse momentum and the pseudorapidity of the D/sup */'s have been measured and compared to NLO QCD calculations. (14 refs)

The correlation of dative bond length and parameter n in adducts Me3N-AlMe3-nCln (n

    No full text
Complexes of the general formula Me3N-AlMe3-nCln (Me = CH3; n = 0, 1, 2, 3) 1-4 have been synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy. The shape of the molecules is trigonal-antiprismatic with the nitrogen and aluminium atoms being tetrahedrally surrounded. The length of the dative bond N-Al is correlated with the parameter n due to inductive effects of the electronegative chlorine substituents, resulting in a difference in N-Al between 1 and 4 of 0.1 Angstrom (2.045, 2.010, 1.971, and 1.949 Angstrom). This shortening with increasing n, however, is not linear
