EFFECTS OF WHOLE-BODY VIBRATION OVER DELAYED-ONSET MUSCLE SORENESS IN PHYSICAL ACTIVE PERSONS

    Get PDF
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of vibratory platform upon delayed-onset muscle soreness in physically active persons. 24 volunteers were recruited and randomly divided in 3 different groups: control, vibratory platform before exercise, vibratory platform after exercise. Volunteers were submitted to physical training to induce muscle pain. Pain sensation and muscular flexibility were valued in 3 consecutive days. Vibratory platform was able to reduce significantly muscle pain in both platform groups and there were no changes in muscular flexibility in any group.   Article visualizations

Theory for Spin-Polarized Oscillations in Nonlinear Magneto-Optics due to Quantum Well States

Using an electronic tight-binding theory we calculate the nonlinear magneto-optical response from an x-Cu/1Fe/Cu(001) film as a function of frequency and Cu overlayer thickness (x=3 ... 25). We find very strong spin-polarized quantum well oscillations in the nonlinear magneto-optical Kerr effect (NOLIMOKE). These are enhanced by the large density of Fe dd states close to the Fermi level acting as intermediate states for frequency doubling. In good agreement with experiment we find two oscillation periods of 6-7 and 11 monolayers the latter being more pronounced.Comment: 12 pages, Revtex, 3 postscript figure

A Parallel SSOR Preconditioner for Lattice QCD

    Get PDF
A parallelizable SSOR preconditioning scheme for Krylov subspace iterative solvers in lattice QCD applications involving Wilson fermions is presented. In actual Hybrid Monte Carlo and quark propagator calculations it helps to reduce the number of iterations by a factor of 2 compared to conventional odd-even preconditioning. This corresponds to a gain in cpu-time of 30\% - 70\% over odd-even preconditioning.Comment: Talk presented at LATTICE96(algorithms), 3 pages, LaTeX file, 3 epsf-files include

Trigonometry of 'complex Hermitian' type homogeneous symmetric spaces

This paper contains a thorough study of the trigonometry of the homogeneous symmetric spaces in the Cayley-Klein-Dickson family of spaces of 'complex Hermitian' type and rank-one. The complex Hermitian elliptic CP^N and hyperbolic CH^N spaces, their analogues with indefinite Hermitian metric and some non-compact symmetric spaces associated to SL(N+1,R) are the generic members in this family. The method encapsulates trigonometry for this whole family of spaces into a single "basic trigonometric group equation", and has 'universality' and '(self)-duality' as its distinctive traits. All previously known results on the trigonometry of CP^N and CH^N follow as particular cases of our general equations. The physical Quantum Space of States of any quantum system belongs, as the complex Hermitian space member, to this parametrised family; hence its trigonometry appears as a rather particular case of the equations we obtain.Comment: 46 pages, LaTe

Robustness of Delayed Multistable Systems with Application to Droop-Controlled Inverter-Based Microgrids

Motivated by the problem of phase-locking in droop-controlled inverter-based microgrids with delays, the recently developed theory of input-to-state stability (ISS) for multistable systems is extended to the case of multistable systems with delayed dynamics. Sufficient conditions for ISS of delayed systems are presented using Lyapunov-Razumikhin functions. It is shown that ISS multistable systems are robust with respect to delays in a feedback. The derived theory is applied to two examples. First, the ISS property is established for the model of a nonlinear pendulum and delay-dependent robustness conditions are derived. Second, it is shown that, under certain assumptions, the problem of phase-locking analysis in droop-controlled inverter-based microgrids with delays can be reduced to the stability investigation of the nonlinear pendulum. For this case, corresponding delay-dependent conditions for asymptotic phase-locking are given
