    Effect of probiotic composition on oxidative/antioxidant balance in blood of rats under experimental osteoarthritis

    Osteoarthritis (OA) is a widespread pathology of the musculoskeletal system. OA may associate with a wide range of disorders, that lead to the development of various strategies on how to prevent and treat the disease. Recent studies discussed interactions between the microbiome and a wide range of pathologies, including OA. In this study, we investigated the effect of probiotic cultures on oxidative/antioxidant balance in blood of rats during OA. Experimental OA was induced by a single injection of sodium monoiodoacetate into the knee joint. A probiotic composition (Multiprobiotic Simbiter®) was administered by peroral catheter once per day for 14 days. We investigated the next parameters: expression of Nos2 gene in the blood, superoxide dismutase activity, catalase activity, glutathione peroxidase activity, glutathione transferase activity, glutathione reductase activity, contents of superoxide, hydrogen peroxide, TBA-reactive compounds, oxidized and reduced glutathione in the serum of the blood. Monoiodoacetate-induced OA caused significant changes on oxidative/antioxidant balance in the blood of rats: increasing of the contents of superoxide anion radical, hydrogen peroxide, thiobarbituric acid-reactive compounds, oxidized glutathione, upregulating of Nos2 expression, increasing of catalase activity; conversely, superoxide dismutase activity, glutathione peroxidize activity, glutathione transferase activity, glutathione reductase activity, the content of reduced glutathione were significantly decreased, compared to control group. Administration of probiotics to animals with OA led to positive changes in the studied parameters approaching the values of control group (some of them were statistically significant)

    Predictive accuracy of cardiac risk indices for cardiovascular complications in patients undergoing noncardiac surgery

    Objective: To compare predictive accuracy of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) score and various cardiac risk indices for perioperative cardiovascular (CV) complications in patients undergoing noncardiac surgery.Materials and methods: We examined 243 patients (148 men and 95 women) aged 45 to 84 (66 [60-71] years) prior to their elective oncological and vascular surgery. We assessed patients using the ASA physical status classification system, Revised Cardiac Risk Index (RCRI), Gupta Myocardial Infarct or Cardiac Arrest (MICA) calculator, and Khoronenko cardiac risk index and analyzed perioperative CV complications.Results: We detected complications in 30 (12.3%) patients, with 3 (1.24%) of them having 2 concomitant CV complications. One death (0.41%) was registered. The MICA risk calculator had the highest predictive value (AUC ROC = 0.753). Risk scores over 0.95% discriminated patients with perioperative CV complications with sensitivity and specificity of 73.3% and 67.45%, respectively.Conclusions: We recommend using the MICA risk calculator to predict perioperative CV complications following elective oncological and vascular surgery

    Magnonic Weyl states in Cu2OSeO3

    The multiferroic ferrimagnet Cu2_2OSeO3_3 with a chiral crystal structure attracted a lot of recent attention due to the emergence of magnetic skyrmion order in this material. Here, the topological properties of its magnon excitations are systematically investigated by linear spin-wave theory and inelastic neutron scattering. When considering Heisenberg exchange interactions only, two degenerate Weyl magnon nodes with topological charges ±\pm2 are observed at high-symmetry points. Each Weyl point splits into two as the symmetry of the system is further reduced by including into consideration the nearest-neighbor Dzyaloshinsky-Moriya interaction, crucial for obtaining an accurate fit to the experimental spin-wave spectrum. The predicted topological properties are verified by surface state and Chern number analysis. Additionally, we predict that a measurable thermal Hall conductivity can be associated with the emergence of the Weyl points, the position of which can be tuned by changing the crystal symmetry of the material

    Magnetic-field dependence of low-energy magnons, anisotropic heat conduction, and spontaneous relaxation of magnetic domains in the cubic helimagnet ZnCr2Se4

    Anisotropic low-temperature properties of the cubic spinel helimagnet ZnCr2Se4 in the single-domain spin-spiral state are investigated by a combination of neutron scattering, thermal conductivity, ultrasound velocity, and dilatometry measurements. In an applied magnetic field, neutron spectroscopy shows a complex and nonmonotonic evolution of the spin-wave spectrum across the quantum-critical point that separates the spin-spiral phase from the field-polarized ferromagnetic phase at high fields. A tiny spin gap of the pseudo-Goldstone magnon mode, observed at wave vectors that are structurally equivalent but orthogonal to the propagation vector of the spin helix, vanishes at this quantum critical point, restoring the cubic symmetry in the magnetic subsystem. The anisotropy imposed by the spin helix has only a minor influence on the lattice structure and sound velocity but has a much stronger effect on the heat conductivities measured parallel and perpendicular to the magnetic propagation vector. The thermal transport is anisotropic at T < 2 K, highly sensitive to an external magnetic field, and likely results directly from magnonic heat conduction. We also report long-time thermal relaxation phenomena, revealed by capacitive dilatometry, which are due to magnetic domain motion related to the destruction of the single-domain magnetic state, initially stabilized in the sample by the application and removal of magnetic field. Our results can be generalized to a broad class of helimagnetic materials in which a discrete lattice symmetry is spontaneously broken by the magnetic order.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures + Supplemental Materia

    Increase of content of oxidized glutathione (GSSG) is fixed in blood serum at carrageenan-induced rat paw inflammation, as well as increase of the glutathione transferase activity. Upon the same experimental conditions, the level of reduced glutathione (GSH) and activity of glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase were decreased. All above mentioned indices was closer to control values in animals treated simultaneously with сarrageenan and drug on the basis of chondroitin sulfate

    Aim: To develop, substantiate and experimentally test the method of correction of body posture disorders in 6-10-years-old girls in the process of their coordination skills development. Materials and Methods: The research involved 138 girls including 40 girls who had various deviations in body posture development and 98 girls without body posture disorders. The experimental (EG) and the control group (CG) of 20 girls each were formed to organize the experiment. The EG was engaged according to the developed method of correction of body posture disorders, the CG – according to the current school curricula of physical education. Results: It was found that 29.0 % of primary high schoolers have various deviations in body posture development. Kyphotic body posture is observed in 80.6 % of cases and scoliotic body posture – in 19.4% of cases. The research determined the relationship between the level of coordination manifestation and the state of body posture in schoolers, in particular the presence of abnormalities in its development. The method of correction of body posture disorders in 6-10-years-old girls during physical education training sessions was developed. Conclusions: The obtained results indicate the effectiveness of the developed method. The EG girls revealed signifcantly better indicators of motion coordination and coordination skills when changing body position as well as static balance than the CG girls (p≤0.05). The number of girls with various deviations in body posture development decreased by 9.9%.Мета: Розробити, обґрунтувати та експериментально перевірити методику корекції порушень постави тіла у дівчаток 6-10 років у процесі розвитку їх координаційних здібностей. Матеріали і методи. У дослідженні взяли участь 138 дівчат, у тому числі 40 дівчат, які мали різні відхилення у розвитку постави тіла та 98 дівчат без порушень постави тіла. Для організації сформовано експериментальну (ЕГ) та контрольну групи (КГ) по 20 дівчат експеримент. ЕГ займалась за розробленою методикою корекції порушень постави тіла, КГ – за діючою шкільної програми фізичного виховання. Результати: Встановлено, що 29,0 % учнів початкових класів мають різні відхилення у розвитку постави тіла. Кіфотична постава тіла спостерігається у 80,6 % випадків, а сколіотична постава тіла – у 19,4 % випадків. Дослідженнями визначено взаємозв’язок рівня проявів координації та стан постави тіла у школярів, зокрема наявність відхилень у її розвитку. Розроблено методику корекції порушень постави тіла у дівчаток 6-10 років під час занять фізичною культурою. Висновки: Отримані результати свідчать про ефективність розробленого методу. У дівчат ЕГ виявлено значно кращі показники координації рухів та координаційних здібностей при зміні положення тіла, а також статичній рівновазі, ніж у дівчат КГ (p≤0,05). Кількість дівчаток з різними відхиленнями у розвитку постави тіла зменшилась на 9,9 %
