Mental health outcomes in communities exposed to Armed Conflict Experiences

The research was funded by the Mental Health Group-GISAME-at University of Antioquia and MinCiencias contract #495-2020 and projects 777-111577757638 and 844-11158446727. Funding bodies evaluated the research proposal and offered economic support for data collection, analysis, and interpretation of data.Background: Populations exposed to Armed Conflict Experiences (ACE) show different levels of impact in their mental health (i.e. clinical and positive components); however, there is limited evidence related to mental health of general population (civilians not classified as victims) exposed to ACE. Government guided mental health assessments exclude this population. The use of a newly validated Extreme Experiences Scale ( EX2) seems appropriate to classify victims, ex-combatants, and civilians for their mental health assessment. Methods: Here, we propose a novel approach to identify relationships between individuals classified with different levels of ACE exposure—independent of their legal role in the armed conflict, and mental health outcomes. According to the cut-off points derived from the scores of EX2, we classified the sample in low and high exposure to ACE. Results: The high-level ACE group (scores > 2.5) included 119 subjects, and the low-level ACE was constituted by 66 subjects. Our results evidence that people with high exposure to ACE experiment higher odds to present anxiety disorders, risk of suicide, or post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as increased cognitive empathy (i.e., fantasy dimension). Conclusion: These findings allowed us to identify the influence of ACE on mental health outcomes beyond the conventional frame (victim or ex-combatant), and to discuss effective interventions and implementation of mental health strategies in these communities. First documented record of the Rufous-tailed Attila (Tyrannidae) for Corrientes, Argentina

We report on the capture of an adult male Rufous-tailed Attila (Attila phoenicurus) in Mburucuyá National Park, Corrientes, Argentina. This is not only the first record for this protected area, but also the first record for the province. Records for this species are scarce in Argentina, where it has been registered only in Misiones province. Populations of this species are believed to be declining, and it is considered a ?threatened species? in Argentina. The confirmed presence of the Rufous-tailed Attila in Mburucuyá National Park extends the species´ distribution range farther south than currently known, and implies that this threatened species occurs in at least one large protected area of Argentina.Fil: García, Natalia Cristina. Disputing "Gender" in Academia: Illiberalism and the Politics of Knowledge

This article explores the attacks to which gender studies programs in Central and Eastern Europe have been subject and the responses such attacks have elicited in the context of analogous phenomena in other parts of the world. The undermining of gender studies in recent years has been aggravated by the effects of the Covid‐19 pandemic that has exacerbated financial crises of educational institutions while also - in some contexts - providing cover for restrictions on academic freedom. Our specific focus here, however, is on how illiberal policies have limited the scope of academic gender studies, sometimes calling into question their very existence. To identify the modalities through which illiberal governments may narrow gender studies programs, we draw on Pirro and Stanley's analysis of illiberal policymakers' toolkit based on "forging," "breaking," and "bending." We consider these categories useful for our analysis but add a fourth: "de‐specification" - a purposeful submersion, or redefinition, of gender studies into other programs, such as family studies. Our purpose is not to present an exhaustive analysis but rather to delineate a framework for analyzing such attacks and the responses to which they have given rise, and then to indicate some questions for further research. As such, this article should be read as a work in progress that seeks to explicate the modalities of the attacks on gender studies in higher education to which contemporary illiberalism has given rise concomitantly with attacks on gender rights and emerging forms of resistance that bespeak the resilience of the gender academy

¿Es el paciente dueño de su cuerpo y de su vida? Reflexiones en torno al suicidio asistido y la eutanasia

El presente trabajo tiene como finalidad tratar las distintas situaciones de sufrimiento ante las que se encuentran los pacientes y sus familiares cuando la muerte de aquellos se prevé próxima. Para esto me adentraré en cuestiones tanto éticas como médicas o jurídicas, además de filosóficas, que tienen que ver con el concepto de vida y muerte, con los cuidados paliativos, con las nociones sobre eutanasia y suicidio asistido, o, con la sedación terminal, entre otras muchas. Así haré un recorrido histórico por las distintas concepciones que se han tenido sobre los temas nombrados y sobre muchos otros que se encuentran intrínsecamente relacionados. De todo ello sacaré conclusiones y plantearé posibles vías abiertas que siguen actualmente en discusión en numerosos y diversos ámbitos. Por lo tanto, este tema es controvertido, actual y polémico, en donde se muestra una necesidad e interés de investigación fundamental. El suicidio asistido y la eutanasia me han parecido temas interesantes de conocer por distintos motivos. En primer lugar, es un tema que se encuentra relacionado con muchas ramas del conocimiento, de ahí su enorme interés y valor. Además, es un tema tabú del que no se conoce prácticamente nada y que la mayoría de la población no suele ni siquiera plantearse hasta llegada esa situación. Y, finalmente, porque es un tema que nos puede afectar a todos en algún momento de nuestras vidas, ya sea personalmente o de manera cercana. Por ello, su conocimiento es fundamental para que una mejor y mayor información aporte más luz sobre las diversas cuestiones que se tratan. Por lo tanto, intentaré esbozar de la manera más concreta y sistemática posible los conceptos básicos, y sus consiguientes discusiones, en torno a la concepción de la eutanasia y el suicidio asistido, para así tratar un tema que ha sido objeto de muchos prejuicios, estigmas y malas interpretaciones poco argumentadas. Para ello es fundamental abordarlo desde una perspectiva médica, jurídica y ética en donde la interdisciplinariedad es fundamental. El sistema británico Kinemacolor fue el primero en alcanzar el éxito comercial en la captura directa del color. Mediante este proceso mecánico-fotográfico, los fotogramas en blanco y negro quedaban impresionados de forma sucesiva a través de dos filtros de color (rojo y verde), y con posterioridad, proyectados a través de luces de los mismos tonos, para producir imágenes en color gracias a la cualidad aditiva del color-luz. El primer catálogo Kinemacolor, publicado en 1913, reunía películas de ficción y documental, entre las que encontramos películas de viajes rodadas alrededor del mundo. España fue uno de los destinos recorridos por los operadores Kinemacolor quienes, entre otros lugares, viajaron a las islas de Tenerife y Gran Canaria, donde rodaron las que posiblemente sean las primeras películas filmadas en color en el Archipiélago.The British Kinemacolor was the first direct color capture filming system to achieve com- mercial success. Through this mechanical-photographic process, successive black and white frames were impressed through two color filters (red and green), and later, projected through the same coloured lights to produce color images taking advantage of the additive nature of light colours. Effectiveness of Non-pharmacological Interventions When Treating Postpartum Depression in First-Time Mothers

Abstract Non-pharmacological intervention alone or paired with pharmacological interventions is somewhat effective in treating and lowering rates of postpartum depression (PPD) in women. Undergraduate students reviewed studies of the use of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments for postpartum depression. To narrow down results, the students based the review on studies completed within the last 10 years, focusing specifically on primiparas (first births) women. Responses ranged from no notable efficacy in reducing PPD measured against the Edinburgh Scale to marginal improvements when non-pharmacological and pharmacological approaches were combined, and testing extended to other scales of motherhood and postpartum. The students discuss the implications for nursing practice related to PPD scores, self-efficacy screening, and combination interventions in treating postpartum depression in first time mothers. La asociación público privada como alternativa de solución de los problemas de distribución de agua potable en la ciudad de Lima

En el mundo existen en la actualidad aproximadamente 850 millones de personas que no cuentan con acceso al agua potable, y 2500 millones sin servicios básicos de desagüe y alcantarillado. Dichas carencias generan altas tasas de mortalidad, así como un desmedro en la calidad de vida y dignidad de las personas, sobre todo de las pertenecientes a los sectores de más bajos recursos. Esta situación se presenta también en nuestro país, y en particular en la ciudad de Lima, en donde se agrava por la alta densidad poblacional de la ciudad y por las características geográficas e hidrográficas propias de la misma, que generan que el servicio de saneamiento se torne insuficiente e inadecuado para el abastecimiento de sus 10 millones de habitantes. El problema del servicio de saneamiento (que abarca en nuestro país tanto los relacionados con el suministro de agua potable, como los relacionados con el tratamiento de residuos sólidos y alcantarillado) tendría como causa principal la falta de recursos económicos y humanos para efectuar importantes inversiones en infraestructura en el sector, indispensables para poder proveer de un adecuado servicio de saneamiento a la gran ciudad.Tesi
