A family of simultaneous zero-finding methods

    Get PDF
AbstractApplying Hansen-Patrick's formula for solving the single equation f(z) = 0 to a suitable function appearing in the classical Weierstrass' method, two one-parameter families of interation functions for the simultaneous approximation of all simple and multiple zeros of a polynomial are derived. It is shown that all the methods of these families have fourth-order of convergence. Some computational aspects of the proposed methods and numerical examples are given

Occupational exposure in a metal industry and ventilatory lung function

A study was carried in a metal processing industry with the aim to analyse the relationship between occupational exposure and lung functions. Measurements in the working environment showed the presence of the following respiratory noxae exceeding MAC values: mineral dust (Si02 up to 10%), aerosols, dyes, toluol and white-spirit. The concentrations of acetone, CO, CO2, oil, SO2, FeO and ZnO, which were also determined, did not exceed permissibile concentrations. Lung function tests were performed in two groups of workers- 129 exposed and 129 control ones. The test values were significantly lower in the exposed group of workers than in controls. This is explained by the effect of the occupational noxae present

Modulation of redox parameters in rat liver induced by flaxseed oil

Flaxseed oil, extracted from ripened flaxseeds, is functional food source that is associated with health benefits in many diseases, including cardiovascular, cancer, osteoporosis, etc. Besides saturated fatty acids and monounsaturated fatty acids, it also contains easily oxidized polyunsaturated fatty acids of the n-3 family. In current study, we tested the effects of commercial flaxseed oil in rat liver by measuring parameters related to free radical challenge (pro/antioxidant balance (PAB), lipid peroxidation (LPO) products and glutathione (GSH) level). Overall, applied treatment maintains general prooxidant load and antioxidant capacity since the level of PAB was unchanged. However, it exerts significant modulatory effect on particular redox parameters by increasing the amount of LPO products and consequently the susceptibility of tissue to free radical oxidative damage, which challenges the antioxidant defence system that in return elevates GSH concentration

Special Functions Related to Dedekind Type DC-Sums and their Applications

In this paper we construct trigonometric functions of the sum T_{p}(h,k), which is called Dedekind type DC-(Dahee and Changhee) sums. We establish analytic properties of this sum. We find trigonometric representations of this sum. We prove reciprocity theorem of this sums. Furthermore, we obtain relations between the Clausen functions, Polylogarithm function, Hurwitz zeta function, generalized Lambert series (G-series), Hardy-Berndt sums and the sum T_{p}(h,k). We also give some applications related to these sums and functions

    INVENTIVENESS AND SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH WORK

    No full text
The concept of invention and of its components is explained as a form of creativity and creation of something new. Likewise, the essence of the scientific work is also viewed as an activity aiming at discovering new knowledge and its use for new changes. The importance of invention and scientific research work is stressed for economy and development of the country. The personality of the inventor and of the scientific research worker is described as the subject of inventiveness and creativity. Of special consideration are scientific research workers of universities and scientific institutions as possible inventors; the accompanying recommendation refers to the need for transforming a scientific result into a contrivance. A critical view of our society and economy is given regarding results and application of the inventions and science in practice as well as suggestions for correcting the present attitudes

    Opial inequality in q-calculus

Abstract In this article we give q-analogs of the Opial inequality for q-decreasing functions. Using a closed form of the restricted q-integral (see Gauchman in Comput. Math. Appl. 47:281–300, 2004), we establish a new integral inequality of the q-Opial type

On the Summation of Series Involving Bessel or Struve Functions

AbstractThe subject called “summation of series” can be viewed in two different ways. From one point of view, it means numerical summation which involves acceleration of convergence, and from the other, it represents a variety of summation formulas which are considered important, but which are often not useful. The aim of this paper is to produce a compromise between the two opposite approaches when series of Bessel or Struve functions are considered. The proposed method leads to series of Riemann zeta and related functions which converge much faster than the originals. In the most significant cases, closed-form formulas were obtained
