    Prevalence and Correlates of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in adults from a French Community Sample

    Validated tools are lacking in languages like French to diagnose ADHD in adults. The Adult ADHD symptoms Self-Report (ASRS) was filled out by 1,171 parents of 900 school-aged youths in the context of the Children and Parents with ADHD and Related Disorders study. Prevalence estimates based on three scoring methods are compared (6-item screener, all 18 items, or the screener followed by the 12 remaining items). Based on the recommended and more conservative scoring method, the overall prevalence of ADHD symptoms is estimated to be 2.99%, without significant group differences between genders, or between younger and older adults. Potential correlates of ADHD symptoms were also examined in their relatives (children, brothers/sisters, uncles/aunts, and parents): birth order, level of education, body mass index categories, enuresis, suicide attempts, depression, and learning disabilities. Adults can be screened for ADHD symptoms using the ASRS; negative long-term outcomes should be assessed in patients’ relatives too

    Squelettes algorithmiques asynchrones : application aux langages orientés domaine

    In this thesis, we present developments to the approach used by the LRI Parsys team to automatically translate MATLAB-like scientific codes into high performance production codes. To reach a high level of performance, we have combined C++ template meta-programming and asynchronous parallel programming to analyze each expression and detect parallelism opportunities first, and then to ensure near-optimal use of the available resources of multi-core machines. To link these two stages of the code generation process, we have implemented a solution based on multi-level algorithmic skeletons. We have implemented our tools in the NT2 library and evaluated them with several significant scientific benchmarks.Dans cette thèse, nous présentons des développements de l'approche utilisée dans l'équipe « ParSys » du LRI pour traduire automatiquement des codes scientifiques écrits dans un langage dédié inspiré de Matlab en codes de production haute performance. Pour garantir cette performance, nous mettons à profit d'une part la méta-programmation par templates C++ afin d'analyser chaque expression pour détecter les opportunités de parallélisme, et d'autre part la programmation parallèle asynchrone pour utiliser au mieux les ressources disponibles des machines multi-cœurs. Pour faire le lien entre ces deux étapes du processus de génération de code, des squelettes algorithmiques multi-niveaux sont implémentés. Nos outils ont été implantés dans la bibliothèque NT2 et évalués sur des applications scientifiques du monde réel

    Posterior Sub-Tenon Triamcinolone Injection for Chronic Macular Oedema Associated With Non-Ischemic Branch or Central Retinal Vein Occlusion

    Aims: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Posterior Sub-Tenon (PST) Triamcinolone Acetonide (TA) injection for persistent macular oedema associated with non-ischemic Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) or Branch Retinal Vein Occlusion (BRVO) in non-vitrectomized eye. Methods: Fourteen consecutive eyes of 14 patients characterized by macular oedema lasting more than 3 months and with a visual acuity of less than 20/40 were enrolled. Six eyes presented with BRVO, 8 eyes with CRVO. PST injection of 40 mg TA was performed in topical anaesthesia. All patients were phakic, and followed for at least 6 months. Snellen visual acuity converted to LogMAR units and anatomic responses were evaluated before, and at 1, 3, 6, and 12 (if required) months after injections and re-injection considered. Results: In the BRVO group, mean foveal thickness was 548.2±49.50 μm preoperatively, and 452.8±56.2 μm and 280.8±62.5 μm at 1 and 12 month follow-up, respectively. Statistical analysis showed significant differences between preoperative and postoperative measurements (P<.05, paired t test) 3 months after injections. Improvement of visual acuity by at least 0.2 LogMAR was seen in 3(50%) of the 6 eyes. No re-injection was needed. In the CRVO group, mean foveal thickness was 543.7±34.4 μm preoperatively, and 283.0±29.0 μm and 234.8±23.6 μm at 1 and 12 month follow-up, respectively. Statistical analysis showed significant differences between preoperative and postoperative measurements (P<.05, paired t test). Improvement of visual acuity by at least 0.2 LogMAR was seen in 7 eyes (88%). Mean number of re-injection was of 2.1±0.3. Intraocular pressure elevation of 22 mm Hg or higher was found in 2/14 eyes (14%). Cataract progression was noted in 5/14 eyes (36%). Conclusions: PST injection of TA appears to be as safe and effective treatment for chronic macular oedema associated due to both non-ischemic BRVO or CRVO, with a better efficacy in BRVO

    Identifying Perceptually Salient Features on 2D Shapes

    International audienceMaintaining the local style and scale of 2D shape features during deformation, such as when elongating, compressing, or bending a shape, is essential for interactive shape editing. To achieve this, a necessary first step is to develop a robust classification method able to detect salient shape features, if possible in a hierarchical manner. Our aim is to overcome the limitations of existing techniques, which are not always able to detect what a user immediately identifies as a shape feature. Therefore, we first conduct a user study enabling us to learn how shape features are perceived. We then propose and compare several algorithms, all based on the medial axis transform or similar skeletal representations, to identify relevant shape features from this perceptual viewpoint. We discuss the results of each algorithm and compare them with those of the user study, leading to a practical solution for computing hierarchies of salient features on 2D shapes

    Temperature dependence of the electrochemical behavior of the 690 Ni-base alloy between 25 and 325 °C

    International audienceThe electrochemical behavior and the chemical composition of passive films formed on the Alloy 690 at room temperature in borate buffer solution (pH = 9.0) was studied with different techniques for two surface finishings. XPS and quantum yield measurements showed the presence of Ni and Cr oxides and hydroxides for passive films formed on both the as received and the mechanically polished one, whereas the presence of mixed spinel type Ni (1-x) Fe x Cr 2 O 4 was only observed on the as received material. Additionally, Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) highlighted a higher corrosion resistance for the as received alloy in comparison with the mechanically polished alloy, which was linked to the chemical composition of the oxide film. Electrochemical measurements were performed before, during, and after oxidation of the Alloy 690 of Steam Generator (SG) tube of Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) at high temperature and high pressure in the simulated primary circuit of PWR. At high temperature, the interface becomes electrochemically active yielding the precipitation of the corrosion products which form a few tens of nm thick diffusion barrier for the released metal cations. This overlayer is built on the top of a few nm thick, Cr rich inner layer at the alloy/oxide interface which was found to behave similarly to that initially formed at ambient temperature. It is concluded that high temperature oxidation in the static condition of an autoclave at 325°C does not promote a better passivation state than the one already existing initially

    Plant phenotyping is a time-consuming task that can be automated with 3D scanning technology. The goal is to create 3D plant point clouds at low cost. Photogrammetry, specifically the structure-from-motion/multi-view stereo (SfM/MVS) method, is particularly suited for this purpose. The method generates 3D point clouds from 2D images by determining and refining camera positions and 3D structures from overlapping images. To completely capture a plant, a turntable and an automated camera system consisting of four 16MP autofocus cameras are developed. An Arduino Uno microcontroller controls the rotating mechanism. The influence of different backgrounds (black, white, gray, cyan, magenta, yellow) is investigated in terms of improving image quality and 3D reconstruction, respectively. For image processing three open-source software are compared and the resulting 3D point clouds are evaluated oriented to the VDI 2634/1 guideline
