European institutions have highlighted the importance of good governance and the need for the close collaboration of regional and local authorities in the design and implementation of community strategies. Therefore, the integration of the principles that preside over the so-called "Multilevel Governance" has been promoted and, among them, the application of an integrated territorial approach that guarantees the effectiveness of the policies with territorial repercussion. However, reality has shown that this multilevel governance does not apply to all policies of the Union, and when applied, it is seldom done in a homogeneous or symmetrical manner. In this sense, the objective of our study focuses on analyzing the concept of multilevel governance and its projection through the Integrated Maritime Policy of the European Union, since this is one of the few examples that exist, at European level, of a attempt of common approach of several sectoral policies

Influence of Work Environment Conditions on the Ability of Critical Care Nurses to Provide Efficacious Nursing Care in Puerto Rico
The purpose of this study was to explore the conditions in the work environment that may contribute to caring efficacy of critical care nurses in Puerto Rico. The study measured nurses’ perceptions of the empowering structures in the work environment, and the relationship to their perceived caring efficacy and explored the correlation between sociodemographic factors of age, education, and experience of work empowerment and/or caring efficacy. The Conditions for Work Effectiveness Questionnaire and Caring Efficacy Scale were used to assess the association between the nurses’ work environment conditions and caring efficacy. The instruments were translated to Spanish and adapted to the Puerto Rican culture. Using convenience sampling, the instruments were paired and administered to nurses from selected critical care units of hospitals in Puerto Rico. Participation was voluntary. Findings support that there is no relationship between the working conditions environment and caring efficacy. Supplemental findings, however, support a significant positive correlation between relationships with patients and families and caring efficacy
Diagnosis, prevention and control of emerging and re-emerging diseases in aquaculture
The inability of the extractive fishing industry to meet the growing demand for aquatic products has prompted the rapid growth of aquaculture, a trend that has persisted over the last ten years. However, bacterial infections, which cause significant economic losses and pose a risk to human health, are one of the main constraints facing this industry. Therefore, in this PhD work, new methods for the identification and typing of pathogenic bacteria based on the study of their genome and proteome have been developed and tested as an alternative to conventional diagnostic methods. In addition, the efficacy and safety of new vaccines as a prophylactic method for the prevention of bacterial diseases in fish has been studied
Macrolides are agents described by first time in the 50s. These agents are extensively used in the infections by gram-positive microorganisms. They act in the ribosome, by means of a reversible union with the 50S subunit. Currently we know different resistance mechanisms, and those include target modification, antibiotic inactivation, efflux pumps or impermeability
In this study there was evaluated the economic profitability of tomato production under greenhouse conditions four production projects, in an area of 9 040 m2., in the communities of San Martin, San Pedro and Los Reyes Acaxochitlán's municipality, Hidalgo State, during the 2008-2009 cycle. How indicator was used cost/benefit ratio (C/B). Acaxochitlán's municipality produces 1,582.3 tons of tomato in a surface of 65 200 m2. In the four projects reviewed obtained a production of 218 tons, the average selling cosprice was $ 8.25 per kilogram, and sold in the cities of Tulancingo, Acaxochitlán and Pachuca. Tomato production proved a profitable activity in the study region since the projects 1, 2, 3 and 4 showed a ratio C/B of 2.30, 2.65, 3.09 and 1.57, respectively.Economic profitability, cost/benefit ratio, tomato production, marketing., Agribusiness,
Evaluating the benefits of key-value databases for scientific applications
The convergence of Big Data applications with High-Performance Computing requires new methodologies to store, manage and process large amounts of information. Traditional storage solutions are unable to scale and that results in complex coding strategies. For example, the brain atlas of the Human Brain Project has the challenge to process large amounts of high-resolution brain images. Given the computing needs, we study the effects of replacing a traditional storage system with a distributed Key-Value database on a cell segmentation application. The original code uses HDF5 files on GPFS through an intricate interface, imposing synchronizations. On the other hand, by using Apache Cassandra or ScyllaDB through Hecuba, the application code is greatly simplified. Thanks to the Key-Value data model, the number of synchronizations is reduced and the time dedicated to I/O scales when increasing the number of nodes. This project/research has received funding from the European Unions Horizon
