Cross-cultural adaptation and validation of the european portuguese version of the western ontario shoulder instability index (WOSI)

Introduction: The Western Ontario Shoulder Instability Index (WOSI) is a self-administered questionnaire specifically used to determine the impact of shoulder instability on quality of life. The aim of this study was to translate the WOSI into European Portuguese and analyze its validity and reliability in a population with shoulder instability.Material and Methods: The WOSI was translated and culturally adapted from its original version into European Portuguese (WOSI PT). Internal consistency and test-retest analyses were conducted to determine the level of reliability of the scale. WOSI-PT, Quick DASH, and SF-12 questionnaires were applied to 81 patients with symptomatic shoulder instability to assess validity, and reliability was tested by randomly selecting 50 patients within 72 hours using a test-retest design. Results: The reliability of the WOSI-PT was very high, with Cronbach´s alpha equal to 0.97 and an intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.98. Regarding the construct validity, the correlation between the WOSI-PT and QuickDASH was high and negative (-0.79). The correlations between WOSI-PT and SF-12 were positive, respectively, moderate with physical (0.66) and low with mental (0.34) health.Conclusion: WOSI-PT is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing the functional impact of shoulder joint instability on quality of life.Introdução: O Western Ontario Shoulder Instability Index (WOSI) é um questionário de autopreenchimento utilizado especificamente para determinar o impacto da instabilidade do ombro na qualidade de vida. O objetivo deste estudo foi traduzir o WOSI para português e analisar a sua validade e fiabilidade para a população portuguesa com instabilidade do ombro. Material e Métodos: O WOSI foi traduzido e adaptado culturalmente da sua versão original para Português (WOSI-PT). Foram efetuadas as análises de consistência interna e teste-reteste para determinar o seu nível de fiabilidade. Os questionários WOSI-PT, QuickDASH, and SF-12 foram aplicados a 81 pacientes com sintomas de instabilidade para avaliar a validade, enquanto a fiabilidade foi testada usando 50 desses pacientes selecionados de modo aleatório, num estudo do tipo teste-reteste com 72 horas de intervalo. Resultados: A fiabilidade do WOSI-PT foi excelente com alfa de Cronbach de 0,97 e um ICC (intraclass correlation coeficiente) de 0.98. Relativamente à validade de constructo, a correlação entre o WOSI-PT e a QuickDASH foi alta e negativa (-0,79). A correlação entre o WOSI-PT e o SF-12 foi positiva e moderada para a componente física (0,66) e positiva e baixa para a componente de saúde mental (0,34). Methodological Rationale for the Taxonomy of the PO.EX Digital Archive

The PO.EX Digital Archive aims to create a digital representation of large corpus of intermedia literary works produced by Portuguese authors since the 1960s. In the process of remediating these works for the current digital networked environment we address metadata issues in a way that satisfies both our material and textual analysis of intermediality, and also the interoperability requirements of current information systems. The creation of a taxonomy for organizing and classifying a diverse array of materials such as those that constitute the digital archive of Portuguese Experimental Poetry (which includes Performance, Digital, Concrete, Spatial, Sound, Video, and Visual poetry) is a challenging task for the present researchers. As bandas de Ladd são uma patologia característica da infância, rara na idade adulta, exigindo o seu diagnóstico um elevado grau de suspeição nesta faixa etária. Os doentes sintomáticos podem ter uma apresentação crónica ou aguda, com volvo, isquémia intestinal ou hérnia interna. O exame complementar de diagnóstico com maior acuidade é a tomografia computorizada do abdómen, embora muitas vezes o diagnóstico seja feito incidentalmente através de exames efectuados por outros motivos, ou em cirurgias por motivos não relacionados, ou por oclusão intestinal do intestino delgado. Europium doped-double sodium bismuth molybdate nanoparticles as contrast agents for luminescence bioimaging and X-ray computed tomography

A one-pot method for the synthesis of uniform Eu3+-doped NaBi(MoO4)2 nanoparticles with an ellipsoidal shape and tetragonal crystal structure functionalized with polyacrylic acid is reported for the first time in the literature. The method is based on a homogeneous precipitation reaction from solutions in an ethylene glycol/water medium containing appropriate bismuth, sodium, and molybdate precursors and polyacrylic acid. The luminescence properties (excitation and emission spectra and luminescence lifetime) of such nanoparticles are evaluated for different Eu3+ doping levels, finding an intense red emission for all synthesized samples. The X-ray attenuation properties of the nanoparticles have been also analyzed, which were found to be better than those of a commercially computed tomography contrast agent (iohexol). The dispersibility of the nanoparticles in a physiological medium was also analyzed, finding that they could be well dispersed in a 2-N-morpholinoethanesulfonic acid monohydrate medium (pH = 6.5). Finally, the cell viability of such a phosphor has been analyzed using MIA-PaCa-2 cells and its in vivo toxicity has been evaluated using the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans model finding no significant toxicity in both cases up to a nanoparticle concentration of 100 μg mL−1, which is within the range required for most in vivo applications. The developed Eu3+-doped NaBi(MoO4)2 nanoparticles are, therefore, excellent candidates for their use as bimodal probes for luminescence imaging and X-ray computed tomography

Para o estudo da evolução do ensino e da formação em administração educacional em Portugal

Estudos sobre a evolução do ensino de disciplinas, na formação de professores em Portugal, são recentes. O controle burocrático centralizado reteve as dimensões do controle político-administrativo. De certo modo, protegeu a esfera educativa das influências modernizantes, do capitalismo industrial e das lógicas mercantis e gerencialistas. Defendeu a educação do domínio político, da intervenção de movimentos sociais, das propagandas de ideais democráticos e da cidadania. A utilização da designação "Administração educacional" ilustra as dificuldades sentidas, ao longo dos últimos anos, em termos da construção acadêmica de uma área, seja pela falta de tradição, seja pelos antecedentes históricos.In Portugal, studies about the evolution of disciplines teaching in the teachers formation are recent. The centralized bureaucratic control has held back the dimensions of politic administrative control. In a certain way, it has protected the education against the new-fashioned influences, manufacturing capitalism, and mercantile and managerial logics. This centralized bureaucratic control has also profected the education against the politic dominion, the intervention of social movements, the advertising of democratic ideals, and against the citizenship. The use of the term "Educational administration" shows the difficulties met by the searchers along the latest years, since there is no tradiction nor historic antecedence
