Precise method for the determination of the neutron electric form factor based on a relativistic analysis of the process $d(e,e'n)p
We generalize the recoil polarization method for the determination of the
proton form factor to the case of the disintegration of vector polarized
deuterons by longitudinally polarized electrons, . We
suggest to measure for this reaction, in the kinematics of quasi-elastic
-scattering, the ratio of the asymmetries induced by the
- and -components of the deuteron vector polarization. In the framework
of the relativistic impulse approximation the ratio is sensitive to
in a wide interval of momentum transfer squared, whereas it depends
weakly on the details of the -interaction and on the choice of the deuteron
wave function. Moreover, in the range 1.5 GeV, the ratio

In-plane stiffness of timber floors strengthened with CLT
Five full-scale timber floors were tested in
order to analyse the in-plane behaviour of these structural
systems. The main objective was an assessment of the effectiveness
of in-plane strengthening using cross-laminated
timber (CLT). To this end, one unstrengthened specimen
(original), one specimen strengthened with a second layer
of floorboards, two specimens strengthened with three CLT
panels, and one specimen strengthened with two CLT
panels, were tested. A numerical analysis was then performed
in order to analyse the composite behaviour of the
timber floors in more detail. Due to its importance as regards
composite behaviour, the first phase of the experimental
programme was composed of push-out tests on
specimens representing the shear connection between the
timber beams and the CLT panels. This paper describes the
tests performed and the numerical modelling applied to
evaluate the composite behaviour of the strengthened
timber floors. The use of CLT panels is revealed to be an
effective way to increase the in-plane stiffness of timber
floors, through which the behaviour of the composite
structure can be significantly changed, depending on the

Decreased dopamine activity predicts relapse in methamphetamine abusers.
Studies in methamphetamine (METH) abusers showed that the decreases in brain dopamine (DA) function might recover with protracted detoxification. However, the extent to which striatal DA function in METH predicts recovery has not been evaluated. Here we assessed whether striatal DA activity in METH abusers is associated with clinical outcomes. Brain DA D2 receptor (D2R) availability was measured with positron emission tomography and [(11)C]raclopride in 16 METH abusers, both after placebo and after challenge with 60 mg oral methylphenidate (MPH) (to measure DA release) to assess whether it predicted clinical outcomes. For this purpose, METH abusers were tested within 6 months of last METH use and then followed up for 9 months of abstinence. In parallel, 15 healthy controls were tested. METH abusers had lower D2R availability in caudate than in controls. Both METH abusers and controls showed decreased striatal D2R availability after MPH and these decreases were smaller in METH than in controls in left putamen. The six METH abusers who relapsed during the follow-up period had lower D2R availability in dorsal striatum than in controls, and had no D2R changes after MPH challenge. The 10 METH abusers who completed detoxification did not differ from controls neither in striatal D2R availability nor in MPH-induced striatal DA changes. These results provide preliminary evidence that low striatal DA function in METH abusers is associated with a greater likelihood of relapse during treatment. Detection of the extent of DA dysfunction may be helpful in predicting therapeutic outcomes
Thermal susceptibility of the Planck-LFI receivers

This paper describes the impact of the Planck Low Frequency Instrument front
end physical temperature fluctuations on the output signal. The origin of
thermal instabilities in the instrument are discussed, and an analytical model
of their propagation and impact on the receivers signal is described. The
experimental test setup dedicated to evaluate these effects during the
instrument ground calibration is reported together with data analysis methods.

Theory of solvation in polar nematics
We develop a linear response theory of solvation of ionic and dipolar solutes
in anisotropic, axially symmetric polar solvents. The theory is applied to
solvation in polar nematic liquid crystals. The formal theory constructs the
solvation response function from projections of the solvent dipolar
susceptibility on rotational invariants. These projections are obtained from
Monte Carlo simulations of a fluid of dipolar spherocylinders which can exist
both in the isotropic and nematic phase. Based on the properties of the solvent
susceptibility from simulations and the formal solution, we have obtained a
formula for the solvation free energy which incorporates experimentally
available properties of nematics and the length of correlation between the
dipoles in the liquid crystal. Illustrative calculations are presented for the
Stokes shift and Stokes shift correlation function of coumarin-153 in
4-n-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl (5CB) and 4,4-n-heptyl-cyanopiphenyl (7CB) solvents
as a function of temperature in both the nematic and isotropic phase.Comment: 19 pages, 9 figure

On radiative corrections for unpolarized electron proton elastic scattering
A statistical analysis of the elastic unpolarized electron proton scattering
data shows that, at large momentum transfer, the size and the
dependence of the radiative corrections, as traditionally calculated and
applied, may induce large correlations of the parameters of the Rosenbluth fit,
which prevent a correct extraction of the electric proton form factor. Using
the electron QED structure (radiation) function approach the cross section of
elastic electron-proton scattering in leading and next-to leading
approximations is calculated and expressed as a correction to the Born cross
section, which is different for the electric and the magnetic contribution.
When properly applied to the data, it may give the solution to the problem of
the discrepancy of the polarized and unpolarized results on electron proton

Constraining the Hadronic Contributions to the Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment
The mini-proceedings of the Workshop on "Constraining the hadronic
contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment" which included the "13th
meeting of the Radio MonteCarLow WG" and the "Satellite meeting R-Measurements

Spin-boson models for quantum decoherence of electronic excitations of biomolecules and quantum dots in a solvent
We give a theoretical treatment of the interaction of electronic excitations
(excitons) in biomolecules and quantum dots with the surrounding polar solvent.
Significant quantum decoherence occurs due to the interaction of the electric
dipole moment of the solute with the fluctuating electric dipole moments of the
individual molecules in the solvent. We introduce spin boson models which could
be used to describe the effects of decoherence on the quantum dynamics of
biomolecules which undergo light-induced conformational change and on
biomolecules or quantum dots which are coupled by Forster resonant energy
