    The main pests reported, and measures of prevention and control in alfalfa crops from SC Agroind Berezeni, Vaslui

    Culture of alfalfa is well known in our country with a tradition of over a century and a half. It is grown in most agricultural areas exept for saline or highly acidic soils and ensure the highest quality material also constitutes the raw material for preparation of feed grains and other items necessary for different categories of animals. One of the technological links of particular importance in the technology for proper cultivation of alfalfa seed and feed is the combat pathogens and pests, in some years may even compromise the culture. In the SC. Agroind Berezeni which has an area of 3.000 ha, in crop year 2008-2009 were followed for the main pests that can harm alfalfa crops grown for seed and feed. Among them: Phytodecta formicata Brug (alfalfa defoliators), Subcoccinella 24 punctata(24-spot ladybird), Hypera variabilis Herbst.( Alfalfa leaf bug), Sitona spp., Otiorrhynchus ligustici L (Alfalfa snout beetle)

    Some remarks on a model for rate-independent damage in thermo-visco-elastodynamics

    This note deals with the analysis of a model for partial damage, where the rate- independent, unidirectional flow rule for the damage variable is coupled with the rate-dependent heat equation, and with the momentum balance featuring inertia and viscosity according to Kelvin-Voigt rheology. The results presented here combine the approach from Roubicek [1, 2] with the methods from Lazzaroni/Rossi/Thomas/Toader [3]. The present analysis encompasses, differently from [2], the monotonicity in time of damage and the dependence of the viscous tensor on damage and temperature, and, unlike [3], a nonconstant heat capacity and a time-dependent Dirichlet loading

    Water-based strippable coatings containing bentonite clay for heavy metal surface decontamination

    In this paper, a novel approach for water-based strippable coatings for surface decontamination is reported. The novelty of this work consists in the development of a new method of removing heavy metals from contaminated surfaces by using polyvinyl alcohol strippable coatings containing bentonite clay. Viscosity measurements, evaporation rate tests, thermal analyses, FT-IR and tensile tests were performed for the optimization of the decontamination solution composition. For the decontamination experiments, copper surfaces were contaminated with mercury and, further, the decontamination water solutions containing polyvinyl alcohol, glycerol, EDTA and bentonite were applied onto these surfaces. After the removal of the polymer films, the copper coupons were subjected to SEM–EDX analysis, which revealed that introduction of bentonite in the polymer solution leads to a significant increase of the decontamination factor

    X-ray anomalous scattering investigations on the charge order in αâ€Č\alpha^\prime-NaV2_2O5_5

    Anomalous x-ray diffraction studies show that the charge ordering in αâ€Č\alpha^\prime-NaV2_2O5_5 is of zig-zag type in all vanadium ladders. We have found that there are two models of the stacking of layers along \emph{c-}direction, each of them consisting of 2 degenerated patterns, and that the experimental data is well reproduced if the 2 patterns appears simultaneously. We believe that the low temperature structure contains stacking faults separating regions corresponding to the four possible patterns.Comment: Submitted to Phys. Rev.     Using healthcare systems data for outcomes in clinical trials: issues to consider at the design stage.

    BACKGROUND: Healthcare system data (HSD) are increasingly used in clinical trials, augmenting or replacing traditional methods of collecting outcome data. This study, PRIMORANT, set out to identify, in the UK context, issues to be considered before the decision to use HSD for outcome data in a clinical trial is finalised, a methodological question prioritised by the clinical trials community. METHODS: The PRIMORANT study had three phases. First, an initial workshop was held to scope the issues faced by trialists when considering whether to use HSDs for trial outcomes. Second, a consultation exercise was undertaken with clinical trials unit (CTU) staff, trialists, methodologists, clinicians, funding panels and data providers. Third, a final discussion workshop was held, at which the results of the consultation were fed back, case studies presented, and issues considered in small breakout groups. RESULTS: Key topics included in the consultation process were the validity of outcome data, timeliness of data capture, internal pilots, data-sharing, practical issues, and decision-making. A majority of consultation respondents (n = 78, 95%) considered the development of guidance for trialists to be feasible. Guidance was developed following the discussion workshop, for the five broad areas of terminology, feasibility, internal pilots, onward data sharing, and data archiving. CONCLUSIONS: We provide guidance to inform decisions about whether or not to use HSDs for outcomes, and if so, to assist trialists in working with registries and other HSD providers to improve the design and delivery of trials

    Tuning the magneto-optical response of TbPc2 single molecule magnets by the choice of the substrate

    In this work, we investigated the magneto-optical response of thin films of TbPc2 on substrates which are relevant for (spin) organic field effect transistors (SiO2) or vertical spin valves (Co) in order to explore the possibility of implementing TbPc2 in magneto-electronic devices, the functionality of which includes optical reading. The optical and magneto-optical properties of TbPc2 thin films prepared by organic molecular beam deposition (OMBD) on silicon substrates covered with native oxide were investigated by variable angle spectroscopic ellipsometry (VASE) and magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) spectroscopy at room temperature. The magneto-optical activity of the TbPc2 films can be significantly enhanced by one to two orders of magnitude upon changing the molecular orientation (from nearly standing molecules on SiO2/Si substrates to nearly lying molecules on perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA) templated SiO2/Si substrates) or by using metallic ferromagnetic substrates (Co)
