Postseismic viscoelastic-gravitational half space computations: problems and solutions

We consider the problem of surface deformation arising from a fault in a semi-infinite, elastic-gravitational, and/or viscoelastic-gravitational, plane-layered medium, subject to an extemally imposed gravitational acceleration g. Rundle [1981, 1982] presented a calculation in which self-gravitation, represented by terms proportional to G are neglected, and the extemally imposed acceleration due to gravity, g, is considered constant in the medium. Because of the recent strong interest in cornputations of this type, we examine the assumptions involved in these computations. We show that these assumptions are not likely to have serious consequences in the relatively near-field viscoelastic displacements, where the earth's curvature is neglected. We also show that the approximation described by Rundle [1981, 1982], which was technically not regular as z → ∞, can easily be regularized using a new approach without appreciable change in the resulting displacement field.Peer reviewe

Synthesis of low-size flower-like AlOOH structures

Al/Cu, Al/Zn, and Al/Fe bimetallic nanoparticles have been obtained using the method of simultaneous electrical explosion of metal pairs in an argon atmosphere. The nanoparticles are chemically active and interact with water at 60°C forming flower-like hierarchical porous structures with a high specific surface area. As the Al/Cu nanopowder is oxidized with water, flower-like pseudoboehmite composite structures are formed with the size of under 1.0 [mu]m; structurally heterogeneous electron-dense spherical inclusions of unreacted metal copper and intermetallides are identified inside them. Al/Fe product transformations are presented by the flower-like pseudoboehmite surrounded by lamellar structures enriched with ferric oxides. Al/Zn nanoparticles react with water, forming the flower-like pseudoboehmite and mainly hexagonal zinc oxide laminae. The composite particles obtained can be used as antibacterial agents in manufacturing medical supplies

Модернизация автоматизированной системы управления блока подготовки метанола на установке комплексной подготовки газа

Объектом исследования является блок подготовки метанола на установке комплексной подготовки газа. Цель работы – модернизация автоматизированной системы управления блоком подготовки метанола на установке комплексной подготовки газа с использованием программируемого логического контроллера, на основе выбранной SCADA-системы. В выпускной квалификационной работа была разработана система контроля и управления технологическим процессом на базе промышленных контроллеров Siemens S7-400, с применением SCADA-системы WinCC. Разработанная система может применяться в системах контроля, управления и сбора данных на различных промышленных предприятиях. Данная система позволит увеличить производительность, повысить качество, точность и надежность измерений в системе и на производственном процессе.The object of the study is the methanol preparation unit at the complex gas treatment unit. The purpose of the work is the modernization of the automated control system for the methanol preparation unit in the complex gas treatment unit using a programmable logic controller based on the selected SCADA system. In the final qualifying work, a system for monitoring and controlling the process was developed on the basis of industrial controllers Siemens S7-400, using the SCADA system WinCC. The developed system can be used in monitoring, control and data collection systems at various industrial enterprises. This system will increase the productivity, improve the quality, accuracy and reliability of measurements

Bidirectional associations between psychosocial well-being and adherence to healthy dietary guidelines in European children: Prospective findings from the IDEFICS study

Background: In children the relationship between a healthy diet and psychosocial well-being has not been fully explored and the existing evidence is inconsistent. This study investigates the chronology of the association between children''s adherence to healthy dietary guidelines and their well-being, with special attention to the influence of weight status on the association. Methods: Seven thousand six hundred seventy five children 2 to 9 years old from the eight-country cohort study IDEFICS were investigated. They were first examined between September 2007 and June 2008 and re-examined again 2 years later. Psychosocial well-being was measured using self-esteem and parent relations questions from the KINDL® and emotional and peer problems from the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. A Healthy Dietary Adherence Score (HDAS) was calculated from a 43-item food frequency questionnaire as a measure of the degree to which children''s dietary intake follows nutrition guidelines. The analysis employed multilevel logistic regression (country as random effect) with bidirectional modeling of dichotomous dietary and well-being variables as both exposures and outcomes while controlling for respective baseline values. Results: A higher HDAS at baseline was associated with better self-esteem (OR 1.2, 95% CI 1.0;1.4) and fewer emotional and peer problems (OR 1.2, 95% CI 1.1;1.3 and OR 1.3, 95% CI 1.2;1.4) 2 years later. For the reversed direction, better self-esteem was associated with higher HDAS 2 years later (OR 1.1 95% CI 1.0;1.29). The analysis stratified by weight status revealed that the associations between higher HDAS at baseline and better well-being at follow-up were similar in both normal weight and overweight children. Conclusion: Present findings suggest a bidirectional relation between diet quality and self-esteem. Additionally, higher adherence to healthy dietary guidelines at baseline was associated with fewer emotional and peer problems at follow-up, independent of children''s weight status
