Design and Development of a New Hybrid Spectroelectrochemical Sensor
The general aim of this project is to design and implement a new sensor technology which offers the unprecedented levels of specificity needed for analysis of the complex chemical mixtures found at USDOE sites nationwide. The new sensor concept proposed combines the elements of electrochemistry, spectroscopy and selective partitioning into a single device that provides three levels of selectivity. This type of sensor has many potential applications at DOE sites. As an example, the enhanced specificity embodied in this new sensor design is well-suited to the analytical problem posed by the addition of ferrocyanide to radioactive tank wastes at the USDOE Hanford Site
A Novel Epstein-Barr Virus Glycoprotein gp150 Expressed from the BDLF3 Open Reading Frame
AbstractAnalysis of cDNAs mapping to the BamHI D fragment of the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) genome indicates that the BDLF3 open reading frame, which is predicted to encode a type 1 membrane protein of 234 amino acids, is expressed as an unspliced message. Expression of the open reading frame as a recombinant protein in vaccinia virus reveals a glycoprotein that has both N- and O-linked sugars. Antibodies made to the recombinant protein immunoprecipitate a late glycoprotein with a mobility of approximately 150,000 Da from EBV-producing cells. The glycoprotein is associated with the virion. Antibodies to it appear to react primarily with carbohydrate and do not demonstrate neutralizing activity
Complications of herpes zoster in immunocompetent older adults:Incidence in vaccine and placebo groups in two large phase 3 trials
Enveloping Sophisticated Tools into Process-Centered Environments
We present a tool integration strategy based on enveloping pre-existing tools without source code modifications or recompilation, and without assuming an extension language, application programming interface, or any other special capabilities on the part of the tool. This Black Box enveloping (or wrapping) idea has existed for a long time, but was previously restricted to relatively simple tools. We describe the design and implementation of, and experimentation with, a new Black Box enveloping facility intended for sophisticated tools --- with particular concern for the emerging class of groupware applications
