FAPESP - FUNDAÇÃO DE AMPARO À PESQUISA DO ESTADO DE SÃO PAULOExperimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) is T-celldependent disease of the central nervous system (CNS) of mice. This model resembles multiple sclerosis (MS) in many aspects. Therapies that focus in the modulation of the immune response and cellular infiltration in the CNS present best effects in the clinics. Artesunate (Art) is a semi-synthetic sesquiterpene derivative from artemisinin and has been shown to reduce the clinical signs of autoimmune disease models through mechanisms not yet understood. In this study, we aimed to evaluate whether administration of Art would ameliorate EAE. Methods and Results: C57BL6 mice were immunized with MOG(35-55) peptide to induce EAE. At the same time, Art treatment started (3 mg/kg/day via i.p.) for five consecutive days. We found that Art treatment reduced the clinical signs of EAE and that correlated with a reduced infiltration of cells in the CNS. Disease amelioration did not correlate with immunomodulation as recall responses, leukocyte subpopulations, and gene expression analysis were similar among treated and untreated mice. Ultimately, further analysis provided data indicating that a possible mechanism of action for Art is dependent on the cellular migration to the CNS. Conclusions: Artesunate reduces the severity of EAE by inhibiting migration of pathogenic T cells to the CNS.Experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) is T-celldependent disease of the central nervous system (CNS) of mice. A new concept of food packaging has been studied and developed in order to meet the application needs of the market. The application of such biofilms coating is directly related to its characteristics and possible interactions of these with the product and the environment. There is evidence that chitosan is a viable alternative to be applied in the coating for fruit characteristics antifungal, antibacterial and its direct action as a barrier to water vapor, which is the latest aging fruit. The clay, besides increasing permeability to water vapor, enables a greater adhesion of the film on the fruit surface. This paper presents the results that were obtained from the development of chitosan films aimed at applying the coating of fruit. It were made tensile test with films using different chitosan and clay concentrations. The tests followed the standards of ASTM D882/02. The best results were obtained for the coating of chitosan in 2% acetic acid, which showed a plastic strain of 4.4% and a maximum stress at rupture of 50.2 MPa. The results were lower for the films with the addition of clay; the best result was observed for this coating with chitosan to 2% clay plus 2% acetic acid, with plastic deformation of 2.9% and maximum stress at rupture 18.9 MPa

Differential brain and spinal cord cytokine and BDNF levels in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis are modulated by prior and regular exercise

The interactions between a prior program of regular exercise and the development of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE)-mediated responses were evaluated. in the exercised EAE mice, although there was no effect on infiltrated cells, the cytokine and derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels were altered, and the clinical score was attenuated. Although, the cytokine levels were decreased in the brain and increased in the spinal cord, BDNF was elevated in both compartments with a tendency of lesser demyelization volume in the spinal cord of the exercised EAE group compared with the unexercised. Aspectos anatomopatológicos das neoplasias malignas renais: Anatomopathological aspects of malignant renal neoplasms

    Get PDF

The present work shows the chemical and bromatological results of maize forage under the hydroponics method for animal feeding, cultivated in the section of University Dr. Francisco Maeda in Ituverava-SP, using seeds of three maize varieties without treatment produced by CATI, (AL - 30, AL -34 and AL - Bandeirante). Were tested with four repetitions in factorial plan, each treatment composed by a different variety, cultivated in two substratum type (sugarcane bagasse and rice hulls), in the sowing density (2Kg/m2) and with age of cut of 41 days. For the climate conditions studied, it was ended that the forage of hydroponics maize obtained by the three cultivate presented adequate levels of nutrients and good forage potential for use in the animal feeding, and the rice hulls produced better quality forage.O presente trabalho teve por objetivo avaliar a composição química e bromatológica da forragem de milho hidropônico para alimentação animal.
